S: In The Life of Beatrix Potter

FC: In The life of Beatrix Potter | By: Katherine Harris and Betzy Huerta

On July 28, 1866 in Kensington Square, London, England Helen Beatrix Potter came into the world.

Her parents were Rupert Potter and Helen Leech and they both had become wealthy due to the cotton trade, so life in the Potter household was easy and quite comfortable.

Beatrix Potter was the only daughter of her parents and so grew up lonely, enlivened by long trips to the English Lake District or Scotland, which helped to instill a love for all animals.

On one such holiday in Scotland, at the age of 27, she sent a picture book to a sick boy, about four small bunny rabbits named Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.

This amazing occurrence led to the start of the Peter Rabbit books with the help of her publisher, Norman Warne, who later became her intended until his early death.

The Hunt Is On | After the sudden death of her betrothed, Norman Warne, she remained single until the age of 47, when she married William Heelis, a Lake District lawyer.

During her life, Miss Potter bought and managed land for the National Trust with the money she made from The Peter Rabbit books.

As a farmer herself, she tried to ensure that the traditional farming methods and the old way of doing things were not forgotten.

Helen Beatrix Potter died at the age of 77 on December 22, 1943; William died two years later.

"The Easter Bunny came by today and left surprises along his way. Colorful eggs are all around. With baskets in hand we search the ground. Hiding in places here and there Easter eggs are everywhere."
