1: Chapter 1: The Three Domains | Eukarya | Archaea | Bacteria

2: The kind of cell an organism has determines what domain it falls into. | Archaea: one-celled organisms that are similar to bacteria but are genetically different from them.

3: Bacteria: one-celled organisms that are prokaryotes. Prokaryotes are cells without a nucleus. | Eukarya: mostly multi-celled organisms with a nucleus like humans.

7: Chapter 2: The Five Kingdoms | Plants, Monerans, | Fungi, Protists, | and Animals

8: Scientists organized organisms with common ancestry into large groups called Kingdoms. | Monerans are one-celled organisms without a nucleus. They reproduce by dividing into two. Many bacteria are members of this Kingdom.

9: Protists are usually one-celled, but always have a nucleus. They get nutrients by eating other organisms or by making food from the sun. | Fungi are usually multi-celled. They get their nutrients by digesting and absorbing the surface they live on.

10: Plants are living organisms that are made of many cells. THey get their nutrients from the sun and surroundings. They usually reproduce form seeds. | Animals are also made of many cells, but unlike plants, they get their nutrients and energy by eating other organisms. They reproduce by cells that grow inside or outside of the mother's body.

16: Chapter 3:Vertebrates | Birds, Amphibians, | Reptiles, Fish, | and Mammals

17: Vertebrates are animals with backbones. | Fish are cold-blooded animals that live in water.

18: Reptiles are cold-blooded animals that breathe with lungs, and lay leathery eggs on land. | Amphibians are also cold-blooded animals. They lay soft, jelly-like eggs in water. Young go through stages from larvae to tadpole stage to adult.

19: Mammals are warm-blooded animals. They usually give birth to live young, nurse young with milk, and have hair or fur. | Birds are warm-blooded animals that lay fragile eggs. They have feathers and breathe with lungs.

20: There are three types of mammals: Monotremes, Marsupials, and Placental mammals.

21: Monotremes are the most primitive mammals that are still alive and they lay eggs. | Placental Mammals are mammals in which the fetus is attached to the wall of the uterus and nourished through a spongy material (the placenta) . | Marsupials are mammals with a pouch to carry their young. The young emerge extremely small and crawl to the pouch where they nurse with milk. They are a primitive group of mammals that evolved before placental mammals.

27: The five vertebrate groups, mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds, make up the five kingdoms. The five kingdoms, animals, plants, protists, monerans, and fungi, make up the three domain. The three domains are eukarya, bacteria, and archaea.
