Indonesia has a population of about 250 million and it's the 4th most populous country in the world. About 88% of the total population is Muslim. There's about 583 languages and dialects spoken in the Indonesia.

Indonesia has a tropical climate with heavy rainfall, high humidity, high temperature, and low winds. Wet season is from November to March and dry season is from April to October. Rainfall in lowland areas averages 180–320 cm (70–125 in) annually, increasing with elevation to an average of 610cm/yr.

The topography of Indonesia's islands varies but it mainly has coastal lowlands. 13,677 islands make up Indonesia. Many mountains are volcanic and there are several crater lakes on the islands. Java has 50 active volcanoes. Because of its location natural disasters (especially earthquakes) are common in Indonesia.

Today, Indonesia is a republic with a single legislative body that is made up of the House of Representatives. The House is split into an upper body and a lower body. The executive branch is comprised of the chief of state and the head of government- both are filled by the president. Indonesia is divided into 30 provinces, two special regions and one special capital city.

The current President of Indonesia is Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. He won the 2004 presidential election, defeating Megawati Sukarnoputri. He's a retired Army General Officer. He ran for re-election in 2009 with Boediono as his running mate, and won with a large majority of the votes in the first round of balloting.
