 The Issues
Protecting the Constitution | Protecting the rights of the people is the primary function of government. If elected, I promise that any piece of legislation that I sponsor or support will; Respect the relationship between the people and Federal Government as intended by the authors of the Constitution Ensure the liberties guaranteed to the people by the Bill of Rights
Fixing the Economy | Government does not create jobs, but it should foster an environment where they can grow. Lower taxes and simpler regulations will allow entrepreneurs to take full advantage of their talents and grow the economy. Our tax code is the most complicated in the world and even the IRS admits that they only give correct answers 67% of the time. We need bold leadership in Washington to reform our tax code and lessen the burden on working families Elimination of the income tax and a transition to a consumption based tax system
Education Reform | In 2007 only 34% of Virginia 8th graders were considered proficient in reading according to a national assessment of educational progress. In Norfolk High Schools, 1 in 2 students fail their freshman year. We need bold action to reform our educational system so that our next generation can be competitive in a global environment. Increased funding for charter schools and other opportunities that give at-risk children a better chance to succeed Reforming the No Child Left Behind Act to end punitive funding measures and unfunded mandates Remove the powers of the Department of Education over states and localities and transform the Department's purpose into research, development, and coordination of the best educational techniques
Social Issues | I believe that abortion is a sin and that life begins at the moment of conception, but I do not believe the Federal government has the right to legislate what you can and cannot do with your own body I support overturning Roe v Wade and leaving the issue entirely up to the states to decide If elected I will introduce a bill called “Give a Child a Chance” that will Requires a young woman wanting an abortion to first go through a sonogram, observe a waiting period, and review a list of options to include all the organizations willing to support her if she decides to keep the child. I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, but I fully support giving all the same legal rights and privileges to same sex couples
