1: Language | The word alphabet comes from alpha and beta. | Are English words are based on Greek roots. | The Greek writing we use is punctuation and grammar. | Greeks created Drama

2: Government in Ancient Greece

3: The government we use that Greeks used is Democracy. | Democracy means all citizens ruled. | We vote for representatives and all citizens voted in Greek. | In Athens all the people have a say in what happens.

4: Medicine and Human body

5: Greeks didn't cut apart the bodies to get a good understanding of the body because they thought it would offend the gods. The Greeks learned how each organ works and how the hearts pumps blood. | The Greeks thought when they we sick or injured it was the gods punishing them. Hippocrates brought a scientific way to the Greeks by thinking to how health and illness was learned about.

6: Greek Mathematics

7: We still use Euclid's textbook that was used 2000 years ago | Geometry means measuring earth. They used it to measure shapes and spaces | Pythagoras was the first mathematician. He started a school where the students created mathematical theories

9: The study of the stars, planets and anything in space. | Aristarchus said that the earth goes around the sun. | Hipparchus named 850 stars and estimated the distance from earth to the moon and the sun. | We still use Hipparchus theories the estimate the moon's eclipses.

10: Geography

11: Ptolemy created longitude and latitude and Ptolemy wrote a book listing over 8,000 places in the world. | Geography is science that studies land and its features. | The Greeks invented longitude and latitude and it is a system that uses a coordinate system to place every location on Earth on its own set of number.

12: Biology

13: Greek doctors could use plants as medicine. | The Greeks identified many plants and named them. Discovered how plants reproduce by spreading seeds. Used plants as medicines. | Aristotle created how we classify new plants and animals.

14: Architecture

15: The Greeks built temples because they we home for the gods. | We see Greek architecture all over the world. | Architecture means designing and building structures. | Columns help support the building. A frieze is paintings on a wall of a structure. A pediment is a slated roof.

16: Theater

17: The word theater means a viewing place. | The Greeks built there theater's in a semi circle and made rows getting one higher than the last. | The Greeks made rows that got one higher than the last so people could hear and see the play. | We still use the Greeks theater design in today's theaters.

18: Sports

19: The Olympic Games purpose was the honor the god Zeus. | We use the same games from the Olympic Games. | The pentathlon grew out of the Olympics Games.

20: Myth and Religion

21: Delphi was dedicated to the god Apollo. | The Greeks viewed their gods by temples. | The Greeks asked the gods for help setting out on journeys. | Greeks myths still play a part in modern society because people still believe in the gods.

22: Alexander the Great

23: Alexander hoped that Greek culture would blend with the varied cultures of the people he had conquered. He built Greek-style cities, including Alexandria. Greeks settled in these cities, bringing with them Greek laws, art, and literature. He also required soldiers and officials the speak only Greek.
