2: Math in Space? Did you know that in space, planets sizes are found using math? The Kepler spacecraft lifted off March 6, 2009 aboard a Delta II rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. With this spacecraft you can find stars and find the area of them with math. You can find the area of a planet by using math: Step 1: you have to find the diameter of the planet by comparing it with the sun. Step 2: find the radius of the planet of your choice by dividing the diameter by two. Step 3: then once you find the radius you use the math equation (Pie x radius squared ) Your turn: If the sun radius is 696,000 kilometers what is the area of the planet in the picture. (black spot is the planet)
4: Math Careers: Have you ever known all the interesting careers involving math? You might think that careers that have to do with math would be boring but you will be surprised by these jobs. Most of these jobs are high paying or fun to do. These jobs include engineering, architect, stock brokers, and many more. An engineer is a skilled technical professional. In engineering you have to use math when they calculate strength, speed, torque, power, energy consumption, temperature, and more.
5: An architect is trained and licensed in planning and designing buildings. Sometimes they participate in supervising the construction of a building. Architects use math when they build the scale model of the building. A stock broker is a professional that buys and sells shares and other securities through market makers or “Agency Only Firms” on behalf of investors. Stock brokers have to know math to do their job. They always need to know percentages so they know how to buy and sell stocks.
6: Biology of Great Mathematicians Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Wiirttemberg, Germany on March 14, 1879. Around 1886 he began his school career in Munich. He studied mathematics, in particular calculus, beginning around 1891. 1895 Einstein failed an examination that would have allowed him to study for a diploma as an electrical engineer at the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule in Zurich. After failing the entrance exam to ETH, he attended a secondary school at Aarau in hopes that he could eventually enter ETH in Zurich. Einstein did succeed in entering ETH and graduated in 1900 as a teacher of mathematics and physics. Meanwhile, he was able to avoid Swiss military service on the grounds that he had flat feet and varicose veins.
7: In mid 1901 he was able to gain a temporary job as a teacher, teaching mathematics at the Technical High School in Winterthur. Einstein then earned a doctorate from the University of Zurich in 1905 for a thesis On a new determination of molecular dimensions. In the first of his three papers he examined the phenomenon discovered by Max Planck. Einstein used Planck’s quantum hypothesis to describe the electromagnetic radiation of light. His second paper in 1905 proposed what is now called the special theory of relativity. Einstein’s life had been extremely hectic and he had to pay the price in 1928 with a physical collapse brought on due to overwork. He made a full recovery but had to take things easy throughout 1928. By 1930 Einstein was back to the United States and in 1932 he was offered a post at Princeton. The idea was that Einstein would spend seven months a year in Berlin and five months at Princeton. Albert left Germany in December 1932 for the United States and the following month the Nazis came to power in Germany and Einstein would never return. In 1949 Einstein was unwell. A short spell in the hospital helped him to recover but he began to prepare for death by drawing up his will in 1950. Einstein died on April 18, 1955 and was cremated at Trenton, New Jersey. His ashes were scattered at an unknown place.
