BC: My class was going to Rio at the end of February with chaperones, myself, and other teachers to study South America. Our plane crashed in the Amazon Rain Forest and we had to survive with what supplies we found in the rain forest. Surprisingly, there were only minor injuries that we easily overcame. To stay alive, we made traps to catch food and cooked the food on an open fire. We saw a plane flying above and was able to get the pilots attention. We were rescued by a Cessna 406, who called another nearby plane to assist in the rescue. To return to the states, our class took a long plane ride and then caught a bas back to our school.
FC: My Amazon Adventure By: Bradley Vanarsdel
I dedicate this book to my favorite teacher, Mrs. Deberardinis March 22, 2010
"Wow" my class screamed as my teacher, Mrs. D. told us we were going to Rio de Jenero at the end of February. She said our moms and dads already packed our bags and paid for the plane tickets. At first we did not believe her but when she showed us the trip itinerary, we believed her.
Everyone in my class including myself, teachers, and chaprones were included in this trip. The reason she said we were going is to gine us a better understanding of South Americas cultures, places, animals, plants, and ways of life.
Well, she did not think to pack us survival gear because if she did, we would be using them right now. Thats because we crashed in the middle of the amazon rain forest because of an engine failure. We knew we would not be rescued until we start some rescue fires or other noticeable attractions to get attention to pilots in the sky.
Mrs. D. and the other chaprones made it and are probably enjoying the nice blue, cool water right now and we are all hot and sweaty not enjoying one bit of our lives
So, since the plane crash there has been alot of major and minor injuries that we have had to cure. We had to do this without any first aid kits, doctors, or other people who knew first aid. After doing first aid, we had to get them down to the bottom of the rain forest. We carried them down with different methods some of us knew.
After we got annoyed be everyone moaning and groaning because they were hungry, we started to hunt and fish so we can eat soon. We made traps and tools to catch food to cook.
After we caught food we cooked the recipes over a open fire in the bowls that we made from the scrap metals from the plane debris. "Come over here" alot of us were shouting because we saw a rescue plane above. We were trying to get their attention because we needed to be rescued. They finally saw us and started to circle around to help us.
It was a white, Cessna 406, a bushplane. They came and landed and called for another plane because we could not fit in the tiny plane. the trip back to our school was a long trip.
We took a 14 hour plane ride to the air port in Houston, Texas. Then, from there we took a 30 minute bus ride to our school, Vogel Intermediate.
