Numbers | Jeff Walters Mathematics LIS 120-01 Final Project We use numbers every day. Most people use numbers without thinking about what they mean. Numbers are grouped into categories based on certain properties they share with similar numbers. This book explores the categories of numbers.
Money, Distance, Cooking, Mathematics, Time and many many other ways! | Here are some of the ways we use numbers:
Numbers must be either Rational or Irrational. Most of our numbers are Rational Numbers. Rational Numbers are numbers that can be written as a fraction.
There are some numbers we use quite often that cannot be written as a fraction. These numbers just go on and on and on forever. These are called Irrational Numbers.
Natural Numbers are the numbers we use when we count things.
Whole Numbers | Whole Numbers are easy to remember. We just add the number zero to the list of Natural Numbers!
Integers are all of the Natural Numbers and their opposites (their negative values), along with zero. | Integers
When thinking of integers, think about the regular number line you use. If the number appears in the regular number line, then you can bet it's an integer!
Real Numbers are those numbers hat are measuring numbers, they include all of the decimal numbers.
If we have real numbers, do you think there is a such thing as an Imaginary Number?
I Love Math! | Written Form! | Complex Graph! | Complex Numbers
Complex Numbers are the "newest" numbers. These are numbers like the square root of a negative number! They are a combination of a real number and an Imaginary one!
 MULTIPLY | DIVIDE | SUBTRACT | ADD
We can do just about every mathematical computation with these different groups of numbers. But BEWARE! You cannot do every kind of computation with them! Just try dividing by zero, you might just bring an end to the Universe!
