FC: My Speech Process | Ariel Barnes Public Speaking Fall Semester
However, my best public speaking experience was Freshman year and we had to present a power point and I didn't mess up and made sure that I made every second count. | Before the semester began....... | My worst public speaking experience was about 7 years ago whenever I was giving a speech at my uncle's wedding. I was saying their names and called Shannon "Shayna" and I thought she was going to kill me!
My thought on public speaking... | My thoughts on public speaking were why did we need it? | What's the big deal?
Famous Speech (Speech 1) | The famous speech was given to us to memorize at least three minutes of a famous speech. | I did prepare by trying to memorize it and making notes of my weaknesses. | However, I didn't prepare because I didn't use spare time to practice. | I didn't really have any strengths in this speech. | I need to work on memorizing more and my timing. | If asked to do this speech again, I would most definitely work on my timing and memorization.
Famous Speech (Cont.) | My nonverbal skill I'd need to improve on would definitely be tree trunking. It might help emphasize my points. | The verbal skill I'd need to work on would definitely be my verbal fillers. I felt like I was overusing "um." | I chose to reflect on this speech because it the first speech I did for a grade and it helped me see where I was at on the subject.
Demonstration Speech (Speech 2) | We were asked to demonstrate a skill to the class. Mine was a fish aquarium. | I prepared gathering materials and making sure that I knew how to explain it to the class. | My strengths were that I knew what I was doing and how to explain it to the class.
Demonstration Speech (Cont.) | My tree trunking got a little bit better. | If asked to do this speech again, I'd try to talk about things other than how to not kill the fish. | My nonverbal skill I improved on was my eye contact and was smiling more. My verbal skill was varying my tone. | I chose to reflect on this speech because it showed my improvement.
Music In Me Speech | The music in me speech was given to us to present the class with 3 songs with one tied to a memory, belief, and mood. I talked about my connection to songs by Keith Urban, One Direction, and Motley Crue. | I prepared for this speech by picking out my three songs and rehearsing what I was going to say. | My first song was "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue.
Music In Me Speech (Cont.) | The second song I did was "For You" by Keith Urban. | Saving the best for last, I did "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction."
Music In Me Speech (Cont.) | My strengths were explaining the songs and how they connected to the topics | If there was room for improvement, I would improve on my tree trunking. | If asked to do the speech again, I would work on my movement and my hand gestures. | My verbal delivery skill I improved on was my verbal fillers and tics. | My non verbal skill was somewhat tree trunking. | I chose to reflect upon this speech because it was the best one I have ever done and the most fun.
The Great Debate | In this debate, I spoke about how wrong and irresponsible abortion really is. | I prepared for this speech by constantly taking notes and writing and rewriting my paper. | I didn't prepare by worrying more about my iPod on days rather than my report. | My strengths were knowing more on the topic and knowing what to say and just how to sell it. | Bradley Austin :) | Payzleigh Ashton :)
The Great Debate | I needed to work on tree trunking and I felt like I did so much better on this speech. | If I was asked to do the speech again, I wouldn't use "you" as much whenever asked questions about the topic. | My verbal skill was my tone and the way I was varying it. | My non verbal skill was tree trunking. I didn't stand still and I was constantly moving around. | We worked as a group to prepare for the debate and made the evidence sound right and supported every detail. | I chose to reflect upon this speech because it shows where I am now as a public speaker.
Where I Am Now! | Not afraid to talk aloud! | Able to speak to an audience and able to talk without being shy around people! | Public Speaking is my favorite class of the semester :)
Thank You!!!!!! | Thank you Mr.Paul for making this fun and making my public speaking experience the best!!
