S: Classification of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle!
BC: My name is Summer Cheyenne Epperson, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my friends at the mall or the movies. I took my first breath on September 23, 1997. I have THIRTEEN cats thanks to my sister being a crazy cat lady! I also have three baby bunnies, they are only three weeks old. I am a sister to two boys and four girls. I am the middle child. I'm quiet until you get to know me, and then I'll open up a little bit more.
FC: Loggerhead Sea Turtle By: Summer Epperson
1: Every living organism belongs in some part of the classification system. We need the classification so scientist around the world can understand each other. In some countries people may not know what a "turtle" is but if you say Caretta Caretta, which is the scientific name, people will understand. Caretta Caretta is used all around the world to name the loggerhead turtle. That name only belongs to that specific turtle, it’s like a human and a tooth brush, you don't share. The name is unique to that turtle. There are multiple levels to the classification system. There is Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species. The smallest is the species because that’s the specific type of turtle. The biggest is kingdom because every animal is in the kingdom. Carolus Linnaeus is the man who created the classification system, he is often known as the, "Father of Taxonomy." What gives an animal its scientific name is by the qualities and their appearance? A dichotomous key is the key used to find the scientific name for an animal.
2: My animal is a Loggerhead sea turtle. The scientific name is Caretta Caretta. Its Species is Five fun facts about the sea turtle is: the loggerhead sea turtle has been around since the dinosaurs.
3: Loggerhead's use their jaws to crush food. The loggerhead got its name because of its large head. Loggerheads are close to extinction. Florida has % of the Loggerhead sea turtles population.
4: The Genus of an animal is a group of organisms that have the same characteristics. The species is that specific animal.
6: My Turtles... Genus: Caretta Species: Caretta Most of the time an animal's species and genus won't be the same but with the loggerhead turtle it's both called Caretta.
