FC: Only Jonas Can See Color

 The Giver Projects By Kelsey

 Summary of the book

The books world is very complex. It takes place at a community. Jonas is a 12 year old boy who lives in a community with his family. Jonas’s family takes care of Gabriel, a baby from the nurturing center. The community celebrates sameness, no one has a choice to anything and has no color. Every year the community has the December ceremony, and Jonas gets the assignment of Receiver of Memory. Jonas’s world changes after that. He sees and even feels stuff he has never seen or touched before. Jonas is the only one who can see color. Jonas receives good and bad memories from The Giver, but all the memories he receives are from our world. Jonas realizes that he world is ‘perfect’. Jonas doesn't like the way is community works anymore. Jonas just heard that they will have to release Gabriel. Jonas decides to run away with Gabriel because he doesn't’ want Gabriel to be release. Jonas also doesn't like his community ways. He wants to find ‘elsewhere’ where all his memories were from.

What is euthanasia? Lots of people don't what it is. People think it might be just killing someone but it isn't. I am going tell you what it is, and where it is legal. Euthanasia means painless death also is called mercy killing. That means that you could have a painless death. For example if you are in the hospital for a long time and you are really sick you can choose any way you want to die. I think that people have the right to die anyway they want to because it is there life. Euthanasia is only legal in a few parts of the world. Euthanasia or assisted suicide is only legal in Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and in the United States euthanasia or assisted suicide is only legal in Oregon and Washington. Every other country has a law that euthanasia is illegal.

I think that should be legal in Canada for many reasons. One reason is that I think people should have the right to die because it is there life and people get to choose what they want to do with it. It is like you get a piercing you made that decision so then you get to choose if you want to die painless. If you're sick and in the hospital for a long time then they should have the right to die in any way they want to. Many people have different beliefs about euthanasia, but I think it should be allowed in Canada. For my conclusion I have given you some information about euthanasia and my feeling about it, but you may have different feeling about euthanasia.

Benefits - no crimes - no fighting - no poverty - no discrimination - no house - work | Costs - no choices - no color - sameness - no feelings - no birthdays - not your real family | Conclusion I think that I would not like to live in this world because I think it would be a boring community since everyone is the same. Another big part is that there is no color and no choices. If you have no choice then you can't have a say to anything especially if you don't like it. If there is no color then everyone has to wear the same thing and do the same thing.

Benefits and Costs of Jonas's World

Do you think color is important? There are negatives and positives to having color in our world. Some positives are that there wouldn't be discrimination. People won't be jealous of who has a better eye color or who has pretty hair. People won't get mad because someone has else has the same outfit as you. Some negatives are that the clothes we wear. If there is no color then everyone has to wear the same clothes and we can't wear bright colors. The world be boring because the grass and the sky we just be one color. We would no longer see the bright green grass or the blue sky or the bright sun. I would not like to live in a world with no color because we wouldn't have a choice of what to wear. We would no longer wear the bright color we wear every day. We also couldn't see the green grass and the leaves or the blue sky and the sun too. The big problem with color is that there is discrimination. If there wasn't color then discrimination wouldn't happen.

 Absence of Color

About the author My name is Kelsey. I am in grade 7, and I am in Mrs. Porritt's class for the second year. I am great at technology! This is my first book I have written! It was really fun and a great experience too!

 Rating of the book

I rate this book 4 stars or 8/10. I give this rating to the book because some parts were really good, but other parts were a little bit boring to read. I think the author ended the book really well, so the readers could have different ideas of what happened to Jonas.
