1: Cyprus is the third largest Mediterranean island It is a popular tourist destination and attracks more than 2.4 million tourists a year

2: Nationality: Cypriots Capital: Nicosia Languages: Greek, Turkish, and English Religions: Greek Orthodox, Muslim, Maronite, and Roman Catholic

3: In 1974 Cyprus was divided. The goverment controlls two-thirds while the remaining one-third is administered by the Turkish Cypriots | Once a British colony Cyprus became an independent republic in 1960.

4: The government is divided into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial.

5: Cyprus has a free market, service-based economy. In the past 20 years the economy has shifted from mainly agriculture to light manufacturing and services.
