1: After 3 years of construction and $7,500,000 the Titanic was prepared for her maiden voyage. She set sail for New York City from London, England on Wednesday, April 10, 1912. Nicknamed unsinkable because of the watertight chambers she held the Titanic was prepared to take on the worst of conditions. However, when she hit the iceberg, all of the chambers were filled, but unfortunately water continued to pour in. Finally, the Titanic and the passengers left onboard saw the last glimmer of moonlight as she sank to the bottom of the ocean. | Even though the sinking of the RMS Titanic was one of the biggest ocean tragedies, some feel it could have been prevented. Many reports were sent to the Titanic on the night of the its sinking, warning them of the treacherous ice conditions ahead. The Californian and several other ships had sent many warnings to the Titanic, that Captain Smith received but did not really acknowledge. Rumors have since surfaced that if the crew had taken the warnings more seriously the Titanic would have made it to it's final destination. However after they collided with the iceberg, there was not time to think. Only 705 people were saved. leaving 1,503 people to suffer a watery grave: making this one of the most tragic marine disasters in history.

8: Mr. John Thomas Poingdestre Mr. John Thomas Poingdestre was born November 6th, 1886 in the Channel Islands located off the coast of Great Britain. His father,a carpenter named Phillip George Poingdestre, was a young man barely scraping by to support his family. He married a yougn woman named Eliza Jane Warr and had 12 children, John was one of them. He grew up to marry Florence Gallager, who had had 6 kids with him. Their names were: Wilfred John, Percy James Philip,Philip,Cast, and Raymond. However their youngest son James, tragically died at age 2 of meningitis. After losing his son, John suddenly decided to leave his family for the sea . The first ship he worked on was the Oceana. He served as an able bodied seamen until a tragic accident. The Oceana took a plunge underwater on March 16, 1912 in Newhaven, Great Britain. John survived this wreck, and continued on his sea serving journey. Shortly after, he became an able bodied seamen on the Titanic.

9: Unfortunately, the White Star Liner hit an iceberg on April, 15, 1912 at 11:40p.m. and sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean hours later. During the panic, John Thomas was then put in charge of lifeboat 12. Fighting to survive these harsh conditions, he added many people on to his lifeboat saving many more lives. Luckily John survived his second boat wreck against all odds. John decided to finally return home to his family in Southampton, Great Britain. Two weeks later he chose to go on another voyage during World War I. On February 26, 1914 the Titanic's sister, the Britannic, left the dock on November 21, 1916. At 8:12am on the same day, only 55 minutes after she embarked the Britannic struck a mine (some still contest it was a torpedo) in the Kea Channel, Aegean Sea. John also remarkably survived this sinking. He then returned to his family, only to find his children have been taken away for his wife couldn't handle all 5 of them alone. From then on John was traumatized and and mentally unstable. He never again spoke of his travels. Since he was never close to his children or any other family members, there was no record of his death.
