BC: One of the best times of my life! Taylor Owens
FC: National Finals Rodeo
1: During my senior year of High School, I competed in the National High School Rodeo Finals in Springfield, Illinois. The top 4 contestants in each event from each state are eligible to compete. It was one of the best experiences of my life. There were high school students from over 40 sates, including Australia.
2: I competed in Breakaway Roping. This was my best event, and the one that I loved the most. I still rodeo today, and this is the event that I compete in. I won Breakaway State Champion my Junior and Senior year. I also won Rookie of the Year for SRA just last year. The goal of this event to be the fastest one to rope the calf.
5: This event is called Goat Tying. I was Reserve State Champion my senior year. The goal of this event was to be the fastest girl to dismount your horse and tie your goat. Three legs are to be tied for atleast 6 seconds after you have raised your hands. If the goat gets up from your tie, you receive a 'No Time'.
6: On the left is Barrel Racing. On the right is the event called Pole Bending. I was the State Champion Pole Bender my Senior Year. Both of these events are timed events- meaning the fastest time wins. In Barrel Racing, the fastest girl to go around three barrels in a clover-leaf like pattern wins. If you knock over a barrel it is a 5 second penalty. In Pole Bending you weave in and out 6 poles in a specific pattern and the fastest time wins.
8: When we weren't competing, we had plenty of fun activities to do. We would either cheer on our team, play in the volleyball tournament, have wonderful cookouts, or play flag football. It was just a lot of fun being with eachother!
11: There were also dances that we could all join in. Every night there thousands of contestants that would be dancing the night away. Those were some of the best memories!
