FC: A YEAR 2010 IN REVIEW
The hotel itself, NH Krystal Ixtapa, was located in the heart of Ixtapa. It was a hotel with 7 floors built in the 80s I’d say, but it has been recently renovated. It was surrounded by many shops, restaurants and markets as well as other hotels. Our room was on the top floor; it was newly renovated and was breathtaking. Just have a look... Life seemed grand. We had great weather for the first 9 days and then it became cooler and drizzly. There were 2 restaurants and a snack bar, but unfortunately the food was the same every day. We got a bit sick of it and began to frequent other restaurants The service was also quite poor. We spent most days around the pool, particularly the kiddie pool. Maxie was very brave and, with his goggles on, he was diving and jumping. He loved having his head under the water. Ella, on the other hand, was a bit more careful with getting her hair wet. She is a true woman even at the age of 2.5! | Vern was fabulous with the kids. He provided entertainment for all guests who were observing his play time with the Max and Ella. We all enjoyed reading as well- Ella even cracked "Crime and Punishment!!! Maxie loved jumping into the water and dive under. Ella preferred floating with her water wings and playing with her baby. Unfortunately, around the 7th or 8th day, Max got sick. He started to throw up and have diarrhea. It was pretty interesting, because, he seemed to develop one symptom at the time. He also had a high fever for a day which did not subside even though he was getting Tylenol. Fortunately, we were prepared and had meds!! Nevertheless, we were worried... As expected he also started to whine more and Ella added to our stress with her meltdowns. Despite our all efforts to get them tired out, they were too excited to have a nap, so we were also getting a bit testy. Vern and I both felt upset stomachs, not sure whether it was the stomach flu as well or just the “deep fried” cuisine at the hotel bars and restaurants. With the weather getting cooler and drizzly, it was a difficult scenario to handle. And then at the end, Ella started to be sick as well. The worst of it for her came down during our return flight.... And that is another story- not a very happy one.... Despite all that, we did have a good time and will try an all-inclusive again. No cooking, cleaning or shopping..... | We were very excited about this trip for several reasons. One, of course, was to get away from Canadian Calgary winter. Two, we were about to move to even colder climate- Edmonton and that was scary. Three, Vern and I really needed a physical and mental break from our everyday life and what was to come. We needed rest and distractions- Mexico seemed like a great solution. Four, well, Vern was being a very nice husband and was pleasing his wife (me ) by taking her to the beach, sun and hot weather. And finally, fifth reason, we got an awesome deal. All inclusive for 12 days less than $3500 for all 4 of us!! Direct flight was a real bonus!
Kids favorite drink was definitely Pina Colada (virgin of course)
4 days after our return from blissful vacation in Ixtapa... we moved from Calgary to Edmonton on Jan 15. We were blessed with balmy (+ 10) weather so driving a large U-Haul was not as bad as we expected although Vern and his Dad spent 6 hours prior removing ice and ruts from in front of our house in Calgary so that we could load the truck. The kids and I stayed in Calgary for 2 more days as Men went ahead to prepare the "love nest" for the family. | We had some helpers to get the house in order: Mom and Dad Malcolm, T. Ger and Uncle Jack. | Max and Ella transitioned to big boy and big girl beds from their cribs but they continued to share a room. Ella had a bed decorated with lady bugs and Max with vintage airplanes | Moving
After 7 years in our first house, we were selling it and moving to Edmonton. What a crazy idea. :) We had many great memories from it. Our babies were brought to it. But it was time to go.. The house sold within less than 2 weeks for for the price we wanted. We were happy and scared at the same time. | House for Sale
After 3 years death of Opa and of very poor health Oma Huber passed away among family and friends. | Oma's Funeral Lotte Huber 1921-2010
Max and Ella are turning 3! Mom worked hard to make special cakes for them. We had a party in our Calgary home as this was the weekend before our final move.
We had a quite a few guests although we TRIED to keep it small. In attendance were: Oma and Opa, Kate and Frank, Jayme and Al (Jessica and Peter) , Numidia and Jerry (Julien and Aiden), Alfred and Cornelia (Jonas and Valerie), Steve and Sue Brown, and U. Fred and T. Erna. The weather was great so the kids had fun in the backyard.
Final Moving Days April 21-22, 2010 our former address: 2455 Chicoutimi Drive NW, Calgary AB T2L 0W5 | New chapter was about to begin.. Closing of the sale of our house was to take next week- on the same day that Vern's new boss, who hired him, quit.. The Y-Haul (above) was the 2nd we rented and the final large truck with movers was coming later that week and all items were to be stored for at least 2 months, while items in the U-haul were to tie us over for the next season..
Life in Edmonton was starting to look more normal. My almost bi-weekly trips to Calgary were almost over. I met a couple of Polish ladies, was attending playrgroups in Balgravia and Parkview and in general I was having a good time. Max and Ella were becoming less clingy and a lot of fun to be around. We still were living in the old house in Balgravia but were still looking to buy or rent. Given the unstable situation at Vren#s job, renting seemed to be a better option. Finding a good quality rental close to downtown was proving to be difficult, but finally I found one in Parkview. This was another |just-in-time by God as I was leaving to Europe in short 2 weeks.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY | We celebrated Dad's 60th Birthday in Fairmont BC. Mat,Hildi and their kids came from Wheaton and we had lots of fun times...

We spent a week in Fairmont with Mom and Dad Malcolm. We went on small hikes, had visitors Arny and Karmen and the kids and Max got his first stiches. He tripped at the front entrance and hit his head on a metal door frame.

First Day of DKK Pre-school. Ella and Max started their German English bilingual pre-school in Sept. They were quite excited about it. Their teachers- Frau Dagmar and Frau Kirsten were great. Max had a bit of hard time for a week or so, but having a sister there gave him extra confidence. They were very cute- holding hands and staying close for the first 2 months.
Perfect Fall Day in Cochrane with Oma
In October, we were off AGAIN!!! This time we were traveling to Chicago, actually Wheaton, Ill, to visit Matthew, Hildi, Ava and Samuel and spend Canadian Thanksgiving with them. My first attempt to board the plane was unsuccessful and after a few hours in the airport, the flight was finally canceled. Fortunately, were were able to rebook for the next day.
One day, we went to an orchard- park. It was a working orchard but with lots of attractions for kids: rides, play structures, apple picking, etc. We had a great time.
