S: A Year in Review Cindy Davis

 Cindy Davis

Sets, Inequalities, and Interval Notations | 8x-9< 3x-1 (1)Remember to move smaller variable (2) If you divide by a negative number to solve for "X", remember to reverse the sign. ex: < becomes > (3) When writing interval notations a closed circle on the graph is a bracket and an open circle is a parenthesis.

Absolute-Value Equations and Inequalities ABS (8-q = q+9) (1) Write two math problems; remember to change the signs on the second problem (2) When there is and = sign in the problem "or" is written between the two problems. Example: ABS (8-q=q+9) or ABS(8-q=-q-9)

Multiplying and Simplifying Rational Expressions m^2-36 (M-6)^2 (1) Denominator will be written twice. (2) "Break it on down" on the top (3) Cancel out top and bottom that match (4) Remember if sum of squares cannot breakdown

Pythagorean Theorem | The hypotenuse is the side of the triangle that the right angle does not touch. | a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Completing the Square | (1) Remember that the a,b,c comes in the order of the equation (a is x^2) (2) Check for descending order (3) "a" must be 1 (4) Move "c" to the right side (5) "b"x 1/2, square it, add to both sides (6) Factor left side, combine like terms on right (8) Take square root of both sides, remember +/- on right side (9) Solve for "x" | x^2 + 2x - 5 = 0

Intersections, Unions, and Compound Inequalities | (1) Intersection ( ) is anything that the equations have in common {1,5,10,15} {5,15,20} answer: {5,15} (2) Union (U) is combining the two sets of equations {1,3,6,9} U {2,4,6,10} answer: {1,2,3,4,6,9,10} (3) Numbers should be in correct order and only listed once | U | U

Domain and Range Domain- the set of co-ordinates along the "x" axis; to locate them hold hands vertical and place on farthest points on "x" axis Range- the set of co-ordinates along the "y" axis; to determine these hold hands horizontal and place on the farthest points on the "y" axis

 Substitution 2y = 6 - x (1) Get "y" home alone in first equation (2) Substitute into second equation (3) Solve for "x" (4) Solve for "y"

Thank You for Always Having Confidence in Me!
