S: Breckenridge 2012
FC: 2012 | Breckenridge
 Spring Break Vacation
FAMILY | The kids couldn't wait to get the trip underway once they tried on their ski gear! Cade literally wanted to sleep in his - it was so comfy and warm!
Once we started our trip, we hit the ground running! We visited the Petersen's, stayed the first night at The Curtis in downtown Denver, and ate breakfast at a diner featured at Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The hotel was fun with different themes on each floor. Ours was a car/speed floor and a Speed Racer picture greeted us as we got off the elevator.
VACATION | On the way to Breck, we stopped in Golden, Colorado. We enjoyed beautiful weather and the home of the "Orediggers." The kids even found a rock to climb...
 Lookout Mountain
First trip to the snow | 2012 | PEACE
fun in the snow! | The first time the kids got to play in REAL snow! They had a great time making snow angels, tromping in the snow and throwing snowballs.
Fast. Fearless. Fun! By the end of day one Raegan was already the "star student" and by day two she was skiing blues. She was keeping up with girls that had skied for two years or more. "Just follow me, " she said at the end of day one, already confident and competent on the slopes. She sat back and "enjoyed the scenery" on the chair lift and FLEW down the slopes as fast as she could... and if she could have gone faster, she would have! There is gonna be no stopping her on our next trip!
We spent two days skiing and it was great! The weather was warm enough not to wear a coat the first day. Cody took on his first time skiing full force and was comfortable by the end of the first day. One of our favorite things was skiing with the kids. Seeing the confidence and skills they had after even one day make us so proud and happy for them. And they both beat us down the slopes! Everyone we met seemed to be from Texas, and even better - were Aggies! It was a friendly mountain and Cody got so comfortable that he took on some especially hard hills. Consequently, we took the third day off and had massages instead while the kids finished up their lessons. We tried lots of local beer and enjoyed the mountain and the family time.
Everyone warned us... the first few days of snowboarding are tough! But Cade was determined and by the end of day three he was flying down the mountain! His instructor, Jordan, was perfect for him. The first thing he said to us at the end of day one was that "first and foremost, Cade is an excellent person." He intentionally kept him in his class all three days because he enjoyed Cade's athleticism, personality, and spirit. He said that he helped with the younger kids and when he needed someone to make a responsible decision. Cade was always the one. He made amazing progress in his snowboarding skills and is headed up the mountain for some more challenging slopes on our next trip!
The condo was so convenient to everything. We could walk to both the slopes and into town. The town of Breckenridge is amazing. We would have loved to have stayed much longer as we felt like we barely got to experience it! We fit in a carriage ride on the last night which Rae loved. We used the hot tub every evening and it was wonderful! Whether it was due to the activities, altitude, or the time change, we were all asleep by 10 p.m. every night. Everything was just about perfect - other than losing that hour to daylight savings time!
After three full days in Breckenridge, we headed to the Timlins in Castle Rock. Our visit there was short (just overnight) but it was long enough to catch up a bit and for Rae to fall in love with their puppy! Colorado is a beautiful state and we got to see and do so much during our visit! Definitely one of our best vacations ever!
