They corresponded by mail until they were married in 1930. | In 1927, Rosa Nell Maynard was 16 years old and living on a farm in rural TN when she wrote her name and address on an egg. He paid $1200.00 for it. He liked to watch boxing and football. However, he didn't understand the way Americans played football. He stated that on the other side, they didn't dare touch the ball with their hands. Also, apparently he and Rosa shared a love for books. On February 17, 1931, Rudolf writes that he is so happy that Rosa is willing to give up everything to come be with him. On March 4, 1931 Rudolf and Rosa were married at the courthouse in Cookeville, TN. Three days later they started on their honeymoon toward New York City where they made their home.
