1: Noun A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. Examples: The puppy was really cute. The ice cream was great.
2: Pronoun Defination: A word that takes the place of a noun Types of Pronouns: personal= refers to people demonstrative= points out specfic people relative= begins a subordinate clause and connects it to another idea interrogative= used to begin a question indefinite= refers to nouns without specifying which one | Examples: She is running. Who at the pie?
3: Action Verb Defination: It tells what action someone or something is doing | Examples: The dogs swam in the pond. I ran to the mat.
4: Helping Verbs | Defination: Helps the main verb, it joins the main verb to make a verb clause | Examples: The store is going to go out of business. I am walking to school today. | am, is, are, was, were, be, been, being, have, has, had, may, might, must, do did, does, will, would, can, could, shall, should
5: Linking Verbs | Defination: Connects a subject with a word that describes or identifies it. | Examples: Bob feels happy when he is with his friends. The boy looks mad when he is alone. | become, feel, seen, appear, grow, remain, stay, look, smell, taste, sound, turn, am, is, are, was, were, be, been, being
6: Adjective | Defination: A word that modifies or describes a noun. | Examples: The young girl had a little kitten. The green ball was big.
7: Article | Defination: Definate article refers to a specific person, place, or thing. An indefinate article refers to any person, place, or thing. | Definate Article= The Sarah is the young girl with the white wings. | Indefinate Article= A, an I found a book. I watched a funny movie.
8: Adverb | Defination: A word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb | Examples: The lion ran quickly. The bird flew slowly.
9: Conjuction | Defination: Connects words or group of words | Types of Conjuctions: coordinating= connects words or phrases of the same kind correlative= same as coordinating, but used in pairs subordinating= connects two items, make one idea dependent the other | Examples: The fox is both mean and cute. He looked at the tree and the back down.
10: Preposition | Defination: Relates the noun or pronoun following it to another word in the sentence. | Anywhere a CAT can go....... about, during, on, to, from, over, into, beside, with, in, at, after, before | Examples: The coyote ate during his trip. Bob took a bath after he read.
11: Interjection | Defination: expresses feeling or emotion and is independent from the rest of the sentence | Examples: Wow! What a great present. Ouch! That hurt.
