FC: Silvisabel Fajardo | Amphibians
1: An amphibian is defined as “a vertebrate that, with some exceptions, lives in water as a larva and on land as an adult, breathes with lungs as an adult, has moist skin that contains mucous glands and lacks scales and claws.”
2: There are 3 groups of amphibians which are: salamanders, frogs and toads, and caecilians. | Salamanders | Caecilians
3: Frogs and Toads | They belong to the phylum Chordate since it is an animal that has, for a stage on its life, a hollow nerve cord, a notochord, a pharyngeal pouches and a tail that extends.
5: A salamander is member of the order Urodela, they have long bodies and tails while most of them have 4 legs they are carnivorous.
6: Frogs and Toads are from the order Anura and have the ability to jump. They are distinguished that they have long legs and mostly live in water.
9: CAecilians | Finally the caecilians are from the order Apoda. What distinguishes them is that they don’t have legs but live in water.
10: Ecology | Chytridiomycosis is disease of amphibians that is caused by the chytrid Batrachochytium which has the ability of provoking sporadic deaths. . Aside from that, amphibians have recently dropped population although they haven’t discovered the specific reason, they hypothesize that it is because of environmental change.
