FC: All because two people fell in love... | Leon and Carol Selby 2011
1: How it all began... Carol belonged to a Bunco club, and it was time to find a date for the annual dinner. Carol had mentioned that there was a cute man working up at the local gas station, The Marathon. This was perfect because the dinner required the women to bring a significant other. Hazel thought of a plan to ask Leon to be Carol’s date...He said yes! After this, the rest was history. Leon and Carol hit it off and did several things together, including dancing up at Mount Ayr! Oh, what a sight to see. The happy couple got married on June 10, 1961. Together they have four children, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.

6: Mom and Dad, Two of my favorite memories both happen to take place while we were on vacation. My first memory was when our family was in the hotel room, and Brett threw his shoe at me, but the shoe hit the wall! Dad was in the bathroom shaving, and cut himself due to the loud smack on the wall. He then came out bleeding. My other memory took place while driving through a city in six lanes of traffic Brett was thumping his hand on the back window, and Dad decided to pull off the interstate because he thought we had a flat tire. Come to find out, there was no flat tire. The only thumping noise that Dad wanted to hear was one on Brett! Love, Butch | God takes care of Heaven's garden Where he has many angel flowers He waters each one fondly With his very own special powers Loving each one tenderly Loving each one just right The angel flowers watch over us God's garden must be A beautiful sight. | In memory of Jason
7: I’ll never forget going to the horse barn in the early mornings, the nights you and I watched Life Time movies after eating fudge in the summers, or the days spent by pool. You really made my summers special. I love you Grandma and can’t wait to have many more memories. I loved all the times we spent at the horse barn even though it was either really hot or really cold. It meant a lot to me to be able to start my love for horses with you and to learn the basics from you. I’ll always remember how much hard work it takes, but in the end it’s all worth it. I love you Grandpa. Love, Haley

11: 10 Reasons and Memories Why My Grandparents Are the Best 1.Grandma, you’re more than just a grandma. You’re a mentor, a role model, and a friend. You are always there when I need someone to turn to. 2.Grandpa, thanks for always being there for me. One of my favorite memories is winning the Junior Golf Tournament with you! 3.Spending every weekend at your house growing up has created so many memories for me. 4.Even though I am getting older, I have yet to miss a year making Christmas cookies and saving that ‘special’ one for grandpa!! 5.Bike rides have been an adventure. Grandma, remember when we were riding in town and you almost got hit by a lawn mower? Well, I do and I still laugh about it! “Grandma, your pedal is hanging!!!” 6.Fighting over fudge...what more can be said about that? 7.I have always loved seeing you both at all of my sports events. It’s a great feeling to look up and see someone you know watching you. 8.Playing in the pool with grandma was my entertainment for many summers. Remember telling me to do all those crazy tricks? 9.Playing with Heart Attack at the farm was fun! 1o. Going to the horses with you guys was always exciting!! I LOVE YOU GRANDMA & GRANDPA LOVE CHELSEA
12: “Fudge! Fudge! Call the judge!” “Fudge! Fudge! We want fudge!” All the kids were chanting! There she sat, debating how to stop the panting. After a bit of coaxing and pleading, Grandma thought, “I know how to make this a wonderful evening.” Drug into the kitchen, there she slaved to make that special treat. Voices from the living room called out not so sweet “I get the spoon!” “I get the pan!” “You got it last time, man!” Then, the fudge was finally finished. Only to be diminished, In five minutes by 10 little scraping spoons.

14: Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary Grandma & Grandpa! We’ve had so many great memories that I couldn’t just choose one. However, if I could relive some moments in time, it would be the times I stayed over at your house with all of my cousins on the floor. I hope to duplicate those fun-filled memories with my children and their cousins because it was the best times of my life. Thank you for everything you have done for me, the lessons you have taught me, and the love you provided for me. It seems like only yesterday Our lives were just beginning. Your love for us never failed, Our hearts continually mending. It is strange to watch the time fly Before our very eyes, Which reminds me of the blessing, That we have you in our lives. To have yet to feel the touch That's as gentle as your hand The closeness of our family One could never understand. As each of our lives Continue to change, Reflections of your love In each of us remains. You have pointed out the path And led us along the way; The wisdom you have planted, We each still hold today. You sheltered us through childhood And saw us through today, Taught us of the Lord above, About faith, and how to pray. One day we'll all be in heaven Dancing on the throne, Praising God for giving us A family like we've never known. No matter where our lives may go, We will trust the Lord above And through it all always thank him For our Grandparents love. I love you both so much! Happy Anniversary! ~Chassity~

19: Grandma and Grandpa, I can’t believe you two have been married for 50 years! The both of you mean so much to me. It’s hard to put into words. The summers that I got to spend up there will forever be a part of me and the memories will never be forgotten. I can still remember the many mornings waking up before the sun was even out to feed the horses. One of the memories that stood out the most is when the two of you took me to the race track, and I got to see what went on behind the scenes of the races. I also remember the time Grandpa let me ride with him while he was working out one of the horses, and I fell through the cart; needless to say that was the only time I ever got on one of those carts, but it is the simple acts like that will always stay with me. There are so many memories that it is hard to pick out the ones that mean the most, but one that will always stick out is that summer when we all rode our bikes to Grandma Ada’s everyday. The image of Grandma Carol riding in the car as us kids rode alongside it trying to keep up, is one that always brings a smile to my face. There were so many summers spent by the pool or in that back bedroom and none of them will ever be forgotten. The summers may have faded, but the memories made never will. Congratulations on making it 50 years together and may many many more come! I love both of you! Love, Brittany

30: Mom and Dad, One of my favorite memories happened when I was training Sharktastic. He ran over a tree, knocked me off the jog cart, and proceeded to take off down the road. Dad thought he could beat the horse to the highway, but in turn Sharktastic took the side route and ran straight into the subdivision. To make matters more embarrassing, people came out of their homes asking what we were looking for. What a crazy adventure. Love, Brett
31: Grandma and Grandpa, One memory that always makes me laugh was when Sandra and I thought we were so cool because we were able to mow the yard. In reality, we probably looked like dorks. Who would have thought two cousins could have so much fun double-pushing a lawn mower! Love ya, Melissa

44: Mom and Dad, One memory from my childhood really stands out. I can remember getting lost at Wrigley Field at the age of four or five. I was scared and crying. Come to find out, the rest of the family was sitting in their seats watching the game as if all was normal! Another memory that I hold close to my heart is thinking about when my girls would stand waiting and watching for you to arrive home from the race track. Once your car pulled up, you would stop directly in front of my house and honk the horn. Sandra and Chelsea would run to the car and hop in, only to drive right across the street. How excited they were to spend the day with you! Love, Lisa
45: Grandma and Grandpa, My favorite memory is one that we like to tell over and over! Sandra, Brittany, Chelsea, and I were outside playing, and we looked up to see an elf running around the corner of Stewart Drive! We were so excited and rushed in to tell the adults what sight we had just seen! My mom captured the moment on video tape. We swear to this day that the elf was real! Love, Meghan

51: Grandma Someone who will understand who knows the way I feel, In every situation Their concern is very real. Someone who has walked my ways who knows my every need. Times when they would see me cry their heart would nearly bleed. Everyone should have a grandma just the way I do . Richly blessed is what I am to have a grandma like you . | Grandpa Through out the years, you've always been A wonderful man, you see. When I was small you took the time to bounce me on your knee. As I grew older you were there I only had to call. I knew that I could count on you you'd never let me fall. So many hard times in my life you've helped to get me through. I'm so glad God's given me A grandpa just like you. | Grandma & Grandpa, Thank you for your constant unconditional love, through out the years. I cherish your love and support more than you'll ever know. With all my love, Johnny

53: God blended a pinch of mischief with two hearts of love and joy; He added a special sparkle to each special boy; To keep us energetic, and always on our toes, to bless our lives with laughter, and hold our memories close .
54: Sandra’s Top 10 Memorable Moments 1. Getting lost on the way back from Aunt Jody’s. 2.Falling up the stairs carrying that case of Tubz root beer. 3.Going on a bike ride to Wal-Mart to get groceries. 4.Cruising around listening to music by Clarence Carter and Michael Bolton. 5.Eating peppermint ice cream, salmon patties, and homemade apple pie with the crumb topping. 6.Being in the car (not driven by anyone) that hit Grandma Carol. 7.Having Lifetime movie marathon days while complaining about how loud Grandpa’s TV was. 8.Putting on lots of oil and sunbathing in the retirement home in Arizona. Then, getting asked to leave the pool. 9.Grandma Carol getting shocked by Lexie’s dog collar. 10.Getting picked up from the airport in Arizona by Grandpa in Grandma Annie’s old car. Some of these memories are joyful, sad, or even traumatic. Now, as I look back, it is such great feeling to view all of these memories as laughable ones, those are the best kind! Grandma and Grandpa, My favorite memory of all is not just one particular memory on one particular day, but rather the memory of a feeling. Whether it was a summer spent sleeping on the futon when I was ten, the holidays, the after school visits before work at Arni’s, the tearful times about the stress of life, or the random stops just to say hello, it is that feeling of comfort and ease. I know Grandma and Grandpa’s house is a place where I can go and always be listened to and understood. Love always, Sandra
