The Laws of Exponets I

The Only Function Questions on the ACT | Functions are normal y equals questions, with the y simply replaced with f(x)

 Example: if f(x) = -2x^2-3, what is f(-3) Plug in -3 for the x's and Voila! Answer = -21

Midpoint and Distance Formulas | To calculate the midpoint of distance of two points on a graph you must use the formulas: x+x/2, y+y/2 for midpoint, and (x-x)^2 + (y+y)^2 for distance

Example: What is the midpoint of points, (3,-5) and (-7,9)? 3+-7/2 and -5+9/2 = (-2,2)

Make it Real Make it real simply means plug in a real number of your choice to try and solve the solution

 Example:

Perimeter, Area, Volume to formula for these things include area of triangle = 1/2 bh area of a rectangle, square, parrelogram = lw area of a circle = pie r^2

Example: What is the are of a square with sides 4 inches long? 4*4=16

Donuts When they say donuts, they mean a circle within a circle. Often times these questions will show up on the ACT. to solve them just subtract the area of each "donut"

Example: If the radius of the large circle is 6 and the radius of the small circle is 4, what is the area of the shaded region? A. 20pie

Baking Granola Bars - Ratios, Proportions, and Cross-Multiplying If it is said that something is proportionate you can use ratios to find out information

A triangle with the perimeter of 89 has one side that is 19 inches long. The lengths of the other two sides have a ratio of 3:7 What is the length in inches, of the longest side of the triangle? Answer 49

Intimidation and Easy Matrices To add matrices you simply add the ones in the same location to multiply matrices is simple the result will have as many rows as the first and as many columns as the second matrix

 Example: { yoga, Spanish, Best Buddies 20. 18,,,,36 0.3 -freshman 0.5 - soph and jun 0,2 seniors how many fresh in yoga? 20 *.3 = 6

As long as I live, I'll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing. I'll interpret the rocks, learn the language of flood, storm, and the avalanche. I'll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens, and get as near the heart of the world as I can. -John Muir
