FC: My Baby Book By Angela Hansel

1: She will fill our lives with sunshine.... And our hearts with love.

2: A new baby is like the beginning of all things-wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities. | I was named Angela because mom wanted to call me angel.

3: Mom had toxemia and high blood sugar during my pregancy. She had to have an emergency C-Section at 7 months because of seizures. She liked to go on walks while she was pregnant but her feet swelled a lot. | Other names my mom had in mind for me were Samantha, Melissa, and Kala.

4: A baby is born with a need to be loved -- and never outgrows it.

5: Mom didn't go into labor because she had a C-Section. I was born on January 16, 1994 at 5:38 P.M. I was 2 lbs 3.4 ozs when I was born. I was 46 cm long.

6: Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. | < This picture was 6 days after I was born!

9: "I see who I want to be, in my daughter's eyes." | I was almost 10 months when I learned to sit up. My first tooth started to come in during the 2nd week of April '95. I was almost 10 months when I took my first steps. I was a little over 2 years old when I was fully potty trained. I was between 6 and 7 when I lost my first tooth.

10: Myelination | Myelination begins in infancy and continues into adulthood.

11: Myelination is the process by which a fatty layer, called myelin, accumulates around nerve cells (neurons). Myelin particularly forms around the long shaft, or axon, of neurons. Myelination enables nerve cells to transmit information faster and allows for more complex brain processes. Thus, the process is vitally important to healthy central nervous system functioning. | During the tween years, myelination is particularly occurring in the frontal lobe of the brain - the section of the brain that begins just behind the forehead. Myelination of the frontal lobe aids tweens' cognitive development. In particular, it enables them to have better "executive functioning," which includes planning, reasoning and decision making skills. It also helps tweens inhibit their impulses more efficiently and to demonstrate greater self-discipline.

12: I don't have 20/20 vision because I have astigmatism, more in my right than my left. I only wear glasses when I read and I've had them for 3 years. | Glasses

13: Puberty! | Puberty is the process of physical changes by which a child's body becomes an adult body capable of reproduction. | Puberty in adolescenes doesn't come at a fixed age, it's different for everyone.

14: There were these two girls, the early bloomer and the late bloomer. The early bloomer developed breasts before anyone in her grade and also started her period early so she had to carry around a purse when no one else did. She was embarassed about these things since she was the only one that was going through these changes. | The late bloomer was the one that had the smallest breasts out of all her friends and she didn't start developing until years after some of her friends. She doesn't feel as grown up and doesn't look as mature as all the other girls with big breasts and widening hips.

15: These girls both expericed different things but one thing that is similar is that not every girl develops at the same time and no matter how early or late you start growing, you'll eventually even out with everyone in the long run.

16: Boys | -You get hair on your face, your pubic area, under your arms, & on your legs -You will have more erections -Your penis gets longer & then thicker & your balls get bigger -You start to produce sperm...this means you can get a girl pregnant -You get taller & heavier -Your sweat glands start working producing body odor -Your voice deepens or breaks

17: Girls | -Your sweat glands start working producing body odour...mmm nice! -You get hair in your pubic area & under your arms -You put on weight...this is natural so don't diet -Your internal & external sex organs start to grow -Your periods start -You start releasing eggs...this means you could get pregnant, so beware! -Your body shape changes & you get taller -Your breast develop

18: My first words were bubba, momma, dada. At 16 months I said uh-oh and good. At 20 months I said hot, socks, shoes, bye, hey. | I said these words because all I was around was my family and me and my brother would always get in trouble. | Funny phrases I said were bubba did it momma, don't tell me no bubba, and mama bubba told me no.

20: Telegraphic Speech is two word phrases babies usually say with a verb and noun like "Give cupcake". | Overextension is when a child will call all men daddy, all animals doggie, etc. They associate a name with one thing. | Overgeneralization is when a child may say all birds can fly, when some species of birds can't.

21: I never experienced language barriers when I was younger but I have trouble saying s words now. | When I was a baby, I would use telegraphic speech when I'd say "Want milk". The other two I never used.

22: I never knew what the future held until I held my daughter!

23: I was most attached to my mom because I was always with her. | Imprinting is a rapid learning process by which a newborn establishes a behavior pattern of recognition and attraction to another of its own kind or to a substitute or an object identified as the parent. | This theory supports my attachment because I would always want to be with my mom and do things she did like wear makeup and have my fingernails painted.

24: I was very attached to a blanket I had from a very young age. My attachment was similar to Harlow's "contact comfort" because it was my security blanket and I couldn't go anywhere without it. Contact comfort is comfort derived from an infant's physical contact with the mother or caregiver.

25: "A wee bit of heaven drifted down from above, a handful of happiness, a heart full of love." | Attachment disorder is a term intended to describe disorders of mood, behavior, and social relationships arising from a failure to form normal attachments to primary care giving figures in early childhood, resulting in problematic social expectations and behaviors. Such a failure would result from unusual early experiences of neglect, abuse, abrupt separation from caregivers after about six months but before about three years, frequent change of caregivers or excessive numbers of caregivers, or lack of caregiver responsiveness to child communicative efforts. A problematic history of social relationships occurring after about age three may be distressing to a child, but does not result in attachment disorder.

26: Unresolved childhood attachment issues leave an adult vulnerable to difficulties in forming secure adult relationships. Patterns of attachment continue through the life cycle and across generations. New relations are affected by the expectations developed in past relationships. There is a strong correlation between insecure adult attachment and marital dissatisfaction and negative marital interactions. If an adult does not feel safe with others, he/she will tend to be either rejecting of their partner or overly clingy.

27: This comic represents an adolescent highlighting the personal fable and adolescent egocentrism elements.

28: A time I experienced adolescent egocentrism and personal fable was when we had a competition in fourth grade to spell words right and my friend helped me cheat on my paper but I didn't on hers and I was the only one ever in that class to make a 100 on a spelling test. I boasted about it for a while and my teacher thought I was so smart but it all was just a lie. | Believing in an imaginary audience has caused me to become paranoid in public when I'm around a bunch of people because I don't want to do something that makes me look stupid and people laugh at me. I'm still like this today.

29: Where I am regarding Marcia's theory of development is identity achieved because I've been through many stages in my life of how I act and dress and I've finally decided that who I am now is who I will be when I'm older. | I feel the same way about my teacher Mrs. Brown because she is at a point in her life where she is married and has children, so she's not going to change how she acts like a teenager would.

31: Based off the temperament theory, the type of child I was in between the difficult and slow to warm up child because I always threw temper tantrums when I didn't get my way and I was very shy around people I didn't know. I also didn't like change and wasn't very social as a child.

32: Erikson's 5th stage in personality development is Identity vs Confusion. It is very hard for a teenager to first decide who they are as a person because their peers effect them more than anything. I went through many identity changes throughout my childhood based off who I hung around with. I also liked to "follow the crowd" and rarely made decisions on my own. Later in life, I may or may not change who I am based off my surroundings. I'm almost to the point where I know who I am exactly but I have my doubts.

33: Erikson's 6th stage in personality development is Intimacy vs Isolation. Teenagers now have a harder time with this stage than any other stage because they aren't mature to realize things that happen to them relationship wise. They may get this older boyfriend who claims they love them, but maybe the guy only wants them for sex. This is very common with a lot of people I know and also myself because I can't trust in a relationship. Guys always stop talking to me and move on to some other girl to do the same thing to. It makes me have a negative outlook on dating as well because in the back of my mind I think what's the point because I feel all guys will treat me in a bad way somehow.
