Leave the strip on for 24 hours, then check your skin for any redness or irritation. Fragrance: petroleum product, listed as "fragrance" on ingredient label and toxic. Fixed Oil: nonvolatile oil, especially a fatty oil of vegetable origin (olive, coconut, almond, flax, etc.). Found in plant seeds with the exception of cinnamon and sandalwood. Hydrosol: condensate water co-produced during the steam or hydro distillation of plant material for chemotherapeutic purposes. Much gentler that the essential oil counterpart. Water-soluble. Neat Application: place directly on the skin. Steam Distillation: best type of essential oil production. Volatile Oil: capable of moving in steam. | DEFINITIONS | PURITY TEST | Place oil on blotter or regular paper and wait 24 hours. If all of oil dissipates, the oil is pure. If there is an oily residue, the oil has been cut and will not diffuse cleanly.

30: Essential Oil Uses | 30

31: USES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS | BATH: 1) Fill tub with water. Add & stir 9-10 drops of essential oil into the water. Some oils are more irritating to the skin than others so check precaution chart. 2) Add 9-10 drops of essential oil to one teaspoon of carrier oil, such as jojoba oil. Mix well to ensure that the essential oil is soluble in the carrier oil. Add to bath water & stir. LIQUID SOAP: Add about 30-45 drops of oil to 8 ounces of unscented liquid hand soap or unscented liquid shower body wash. Shake vigorously. BODY OIL: Add about 12-15 drops of oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil such as jojoba oil. Shake to blend. BODY MIST: Add 10-15 drops of oil to 1 ounce glass bottle filled with spring or distilled water. Shake well before each mist. ROOM MIST: Add 17-20 drops of oil to 1 ounce misting bottle filled with spring or distilled water. Shake well before each use. | BODY LOTION: Add 50-60 drops of oil to 16 ounces of unscented body lotion. Stir with a spoon or stirring stick to blend. Mix until lotion is smooth. LINIMENT: Add 20-25 drops of oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil such as jojoba. Shake well to blend. COMPRESS: Add & mix 3-5 droops of oil to a bowl of warm or cool water. Soak a wash cloth. Wring and apply. SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER: Add 12-15 drops of oil to unscented hair product. Shake well to blend. HAIR BRUSH: Place 3 drops of oil into palm of hand. Rub over the natural bristles of a hair brush. Brush your scalp and hair. DIFFUSER: Add oils and burn. SCENT: 1) Add 5 drops of oil to tissue. Carry with you throughout the day. 2) Add 5 drops to cotton ball. Place in drawer or closet. INHALANT: 1 drop oil into palm of hand. Rub hands together and inhale. Avoid eyes. | 31

32: FRAGRANCED WOOD: 1) Put essential oils on decorative pieces of dry wood and place around home. 2) Put essential oil on small pieces of dry wood and place in dresser drawers. | 32

34: 5 STEPS TO PERFECT SKIN | STEP ONE: CLEAN FACE 1 cup oats finely ground 2 cups white clay 1/4 cup almonds finely ground 1/8 cup lavender finely ground 1/8 cup roses finely ground 1/8 cup poppy seeds or finely ground blue corn 1) Combine all ingredients. Store in a glass jar nest to sink. 2) To use, mix 1-2 tsp. of grains with water. Stir into a paste. 3) Gently massage on face. Rinse with warm water. | STEP TWO: HERBAL FACIAL STEAM 1) Use skin chart to determine herbal mixture. 2) Mix all herbs together and store in dry, airtight glass bottle. 3) Steam face. | STEP FOUR: TONIC ASTRINGENTS 1) Use astringent chart for skin type. 2) Immediately following facial, apply an astringent preparation to tone and close the pores. Use a cotton pad for application or mist the skin with a spritzer bottle. | STEP THREE: FACIAL MASK OR HONEY PACK Mask: Mix just enough water with clay to make nice paste. The thicker the clay/water mix, the more drying the facial. Apply and leave on until completely dry. Rinse. Honey pack: Apply a fingerfulL to thoroughly dried skin. be sure hair is out of reach. Gently massage, pat, and rub honey into skin. Rinse off completely with warm water. | STEP FIVE: MASSAGE AND CREAM Lightly massage face using favorite moisturizing cream. Rub small amount in palms and gently circle the outer edges of face, always stroking upward and outward. Follow the contours of the face using fingers to trace the structure. | 34

35: STEAM CHART FOR SKIN TYPES | DRY TO NORMAL SKIN: 1 part lavender. 2 parts chamomile, calendula and roses. 3 parts comfrey leaf. NORMAL TO OILY SKIN: 1/4 part rosemary. 1 part sage and raspberry leaf. 2 parts calendula. 3 parts comfrey. | CLAY CHART FOR SKIN TYPES | DRY SKIN: white cosmetic grad clay. Lightly drawing but gentle to skin. High in minerals and excellent for problematic, blemish-prone skin. OILY SKIN: green, red, or yellow clay. Much more drying than white clay. | ASTRINGENT CHART FOR SKIN TYPES | DRY SKIN: use rose water, a very light gentle astringent. 37: Scrubs | 37

38: SALT SCRUB | 2 cups fine sea salt 2+/-cups grapeseed, apricot, almond, or extra virgin olive oil 20-30 drops essential oil of choice 1) Mix together the oil and essential oil. Place salt in a widemouthed jar and cover with oil mixture. To store place in a cool area. 2) In shower or bath tub rinse your skin with warm water, vigorously massage into your skin, avoid any areas with broken skin. 3) Rinse with warm water then pat dry. No need to apply moisturizer. | SUGAR SCRUB | 75% white cane sugar 25% almond, avocado, or sesame oil. (May need up to 15% more) Essential oil of your choice, 5-8 drops per cup of oil. Blend together, store in a closed container. Scoop up a small amount into a wash cloth and scrub. Rinse and pat dry. | APPLE CIDER BODY SCRUB | 1/2 cup cream 3 Tbs raw honey 6 Tbs apple cider or fresh squeezed lemon juice 1/2 cup regular rolled oats (oatmeal) 2 cups sea salt 2 drops rose oil 2 drops neroli oil 4 drops lavender oil 8 drops lemon oil 1) Mix honey, apple cider, and cream. 2) Add oats and stir well. 3) Add salt and stir well. 4) Blend in essential oils. 5) refrigerate overnight or for at least 8 hours before using. Bring to room temperature (30 degrees) before using. Store remainder in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Do not freeze. recipe may be doubled. Makes 1 application. | * There should be approximately 1/8 inch of oil on top of scrub as it rests. Add oil slowly to ensure proper amount. | 38

39: COFFEE BODY SCRUB | 5 tsp. used ground coffee 1 tsp. sugar or salt 2 tsp. organic cold pressed oil (almond, grapeseed, avocado, etc.) 1) Mix ingredients together. 2) Using loofah rub in circular motion all over body. 3) Leave on five minutes then wash off. | CIDER FACIAL SCRUB | 1/8 cup granulated sugar 1-3 tsp. apple cider 1) Mix sugar and cider until it is a frosting-like consistency. 2) Gently rub on face in circular motions. 3) Rinse with warm water. Moisturize. Can substitute apple cider vinegar foe cider for oily skin. | When blending for a bedtime scrub, use mostly top notes so the aroma will not linger and interfere with any other night time therapies. Use oils that stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. For morning scrubs use middle and base notes that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system. | 39

40: ACNE OR DULL SKIN | 5-10 aspirins powdered 2 T. honey enough water to make it spreadable Spread on skin. After a few minutes remove with a warm wash cloth. | WINTER LEMON FACIAL EXFOLIANT | 1/4 cup seal salt fresh squeezed lemon juice 1) Put slat into bowl and add enough lemon juice to make paste 2) Using fingertips, massage into skin (AVOID eyes) 3) Rinse with warm water and pay dry 4) Apply moisturizer | OAT FACIAL CLEANSER | 1/4 cup regular rolled oats 1/2 cup baking soda 1) Grind oats in blender until a fine flour is made. 2 Blend in baking soda. 3) Store in glass far for up to 1 month. 4) Use small amount on wash cloth or palm. 5) Add enough water to make past. 6) Apply to face and scrub. 7) Rinse with warm water and pat dry. * If skin is dry, delicate, or inflamed reverse the amounts and use more oat flour. | 40

41: FACIAL SCRUB 1/4 cup yogurt 1/4 cup cornmeal 5 drops lavender essential oil 5 drops patchouli essential oil 5 drops grapefruit essential oil Mix together and refrigerate a couple of hours before using. 43: ROYAL JELLY FACELIFT CREAM | 2 1/2 oz. blended oils (see oil chart pg. 24) 1 1/2 oz. coconut oil or cocoa butter 1/2 oz. beeswax 4 oz. distilled water 2-3 tsp. active royal jelly 30 drops grapefruit seed extract essential oils of choice (optional) Preparation time: 25 minutes 1) Weigh the coconut oil and beeswax on a scale. 2) Combine the oils and beeswax in a double boiler and melt over a low heat, stirring occasionally. 3) Remove the melted oils and beeswax from the stove and add the water. 4) Mix with an electric mixer until creamy and thick 5) Stir in the grapefruit seed extract and essential oils (if using). 6) Store in glass jars with screw on tops. This cream should last for 4 months or so. BUT if you see mold growing, discard. | HONEY CLEANSING SCRUB | 1 T. honey 1 T. finely ground almonds 2 T. dry oatmeal enough lemon juice to moisten Massage gently onto face. Rinse with warm water. | HONEY HAIR TREATMENT | 1/2 cup honey 2 T. - 1/4 cup olive oil (depending on dryness of hair and scalp) Saturate hair and scalp with mixture. Put on shower cap and allow mixture to remain for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as normal. | 43

44: HONEY PAT | Best way to bring a lively glow to your face and body while you moisturize and smooth. Squeeze some honey anywhere on your skin and pat it with both hands. As you continue to pat, honey gets really sticky. This will pull up your skin gently. This is great for circulation. Rinse off honey and towel dry. | HONEY BATH | 1/4 cup of honey added to bath water. | MOISTURIZING MASK | 2 T. honey 2 tsp. milk or cream Smooth on face, allow to remain for 10 minutes. Rinse | 1 peeled and cored apple 1 T. honey 1) In blender or food processor, combine ingredients. 2) Apply pulp gently to face and allow to remain for 15 minutes, then rinse. | HONEY SHINEY HAIR | HONEY-APPLE TONER ALPHA-HYDROXY | 1 tsp. honey 1 squeeze fresh lemon 1 qt. warm water After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. DO NOT rinse out. Allow hair to dry. | 44

45: BEE'S WAX BALM | 2 1/2 oz. olive oil (substitute grapeseed oil for oily skin) 1/2 oz. pure beeswax 12 drops grapefuit seed extract (natural preservative) 4 oz. distilled water 1) Combine olive oil and beeswax in double boiler, melt 2) Remove from heat 3) Add water and mix with hand or electric mixer until creamy 4) Stir in grapefruit seed extract 5) Place and store in glass jar with screw lid *Makes 1/4cup, shelf life 1 year | Natural sea shells such as clam shells that will make a nicely shaped candle that will sit flat. Can add hot glue dots to bottom of shell to stabilize. Bee's wax in ground granular form, no melting required. Wax coated wicks. Essential oil of choice. Mix essential oils into wax grains. 52: FRESH MINT FACIAL MASK | 10 large peppermint leaves 1/4 cup water 2 T. white cosmetic clay 1) Add peppermint leaves and water together in a blender and mix until green and frothy. Strain. 2) In a small bowl, add mint liquid to clay and stir until a spreadable paste forms. 3) Spread onto a clean face and throat and let dry. Rinse. | EGG MASKS | RAW EGG WHITES: Beat egg whites until frothy and spread on face. Wait until it dries and rinse off with warm water. Provides a lifting effect and reduces pore size. RAW EGG YOLK: Spread on face and neck. Leave on skin for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Provides high levels of vitamin A, an ingredient in acne-fighting products. | BANANA MASK | 1) Mash one overripe banana and spread onto face. 2) Leave on for 15-30 minutes 3) Rinse with warm water | 1) Clean face 2) Apply yogurt and leave on for 15-20 minutes. NORMAL TO OILY SKIN: 1 T. cognac 1 egg 1/4 cup of non-fat dry milk 1 lemon juiced 1/2 tsp. epsom salt NORMAL TO DRY SKIN: 1/4 cup grated carrot 1 1/2 tsp. mayonnaise 1/2 tsp. epsom salt | 53

54: Scented Waters Splashes Spritzes & Perfumes | 54

55: 6 parts lemon balm 4 parts chamomile 1 part rosemary 1 parts calendula 4 parts roses 1 part lemon peel 1 part sage 2 parts comfrey leaf apple cider or wine vinegar to cover essential oil of lavender or rose (optional) 1) Place all herbs in widemouthed jar. Add enough vinegar to come about an inch or two above the herb mixture. Cover tightly and let sit in warm spot for 2-3 weeks. 2) Strain. Reserve the liquid. To each cup of herbal vinegar add 1/2 - 1 cup of rose water or witch hazel. Add a 1-2 drops of essential oil, if desire. Re-bottle. Does not need to be refrigerated and will stay good indefinitely. | QUEEN OF HUNGARY'S WATER | ROSEWATER VIOLET AFTERBATH SPLASH | 1/2 cup organic rose petals dried 1/2 cup organic violet flowers, dried 2 cups spring or filtered water 4 T. vodka or isopropyl alcohol 1) Crush the dried flowers then combine with the water and alcohol in a glass jar with a lid 2) Store in a warm place (sunny window) for 2 weeks. 3) Using a very fine mesh strainer, strain out & discard the flowers. 4) Store in a glass bottle at room temperature. | 55

56: SKIN SPRITZER & FRESHENER | 1 tsp. blend of essential oils of choice 1 tsp. vodka or isopropyl alcohol 2 cups bottles mineral water 1) Combine ingredients in glass jar with pump 2) Shake well before each use | 1 +/- quart rose petals or lavender blossoms 1 gallon distilled water 1 canning kettle 1 clean brick or small stainless steel bowl filled with water 1 large stainless steel bowl 3/4 diameter of the canning kettle ice 1) Place the small bowl or brick in center of the canning kettle 2) Add the petals or blossoms and water 3) Place the kettle lid upside down and fill with ice 4) Bring to boil over medium heat 5) Turn down heat to barely medium, cook for 45-60 minutes 6) Carefully remove the lid and dump out the water in lid 7) Remove the bowl that now contains the rose or lavender water | ROSE OR LAVENDER WATER | 56

57: 1 Part essential oil 8 Parts Isopropyl alcohol (70%) Glass spray bottle | PERFUME | EUCALYPTUS SHOWER | SPRAY | Eucalyptus essential oil] Distilled water Spray mixture along the shower tiles at around nose level. Hot shower water will disperse the aroma. | 57

59: LIP BALM | 1/4 cup vegetable or nut oil 1/4 oz. beeswax 1 tsp. honey or glycerine (humectants) 1/2 - 1 tsp. natural flavoring such as peppermint, apricot kernel, or lemon 1) Heat oil and beeswax in double boiler until beeswax is melted. 2) Remove from heat and whip with an electric beater until creamy. 3) Add the honey or glycerine and flavoring oil, whip some more. 4) Store in small glass jars. Try different oils on lips to choose the best for your skin type. | 1/2 T. olive oil 1 tsp. sugar Scrub dry chapped lips | CHAPPED LIP SMOOTHER | COLORADO PEPPERMINT LIP SALVE | Use Colorado salve recipe (pg. 61) with peppermint essential oil. | COLDSORE REMEDY | Lemon balm oil or Lavender oil Apply to sore "neat" or undiluted. Use caution not to lick or otherwise get inside of mouth. | 59 | RED CLOVER LIP GLOSS | 1/2 Tbs. dried red clover flowers or 1 Tbs. fresh flowers 1/4 cup water 1/4 tsp clover honey 1/8 tsp vitamin E oil 1/8 tsp cornstarch 1) Combine clover flowers, water and honey & bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, remove from heat & strain liquid. 2) Stir in vitamin E oil & cornstarch. Mix well. Heat mixture until it forms a clear gel. 3) Cool completely, stirring occasionally. 4) Place in container. Yields 1/2 oz.

101: MUSCLE TEST | 101 | Muscle testing should always be performed before using any essential oil. From the Chinese medicine tradition of internal energy, this is a noninvasive way of evaluating the responses of the body when a slight amount of pressure is applied to a large muscle. This provides information on energy blockages, the functioning of the body's organs, food sensitivities, nutritional deficiencies, and the responses to remedies and herbs. One way to test is by using the central meridian, with the arm extended forward of the body and at an angle below horizontal. All meridians intersect with the central meridian, so this way of testing encompasses a more accurate range of body systems. Self testing can be done by using the thumb and the middle finger on each hand to form two rings. Link the rings together by intersecting one ring with the other to form a two link chain. Make a statement of truth such as my name is.... while at the same time trying to separate the two rings. You can also test by holding a detrimental substance such as white sugar in a container in your pocket or under your arm. This will give you a baseline of your muscle strength (integrity). Next try whatever substance, herb, essential oil, supplement or food using the same method. If muscle integrity remains then the substance should be accepted by your body.
