FC: Atticus Finch | Hailee Long and Allison Finneseth
A young Atticus Finch | My name is Atticus. I have two kids, Jem and Scout. I am a lawyer, and I like to think that I do a good service to Maycomb County. I try to teach my kids the best way to live and to help others. I don't think I'm that great, but my kids say the town looks up to me in times of need.
I grew up on Finches Landing with my sister, Alexandra, and my brother, Jack. We visit the Landing every Christmas, without my wife of course. She died years back.
Jem Jem is my 13 year old son. He's real thoughtful and curious. Despite his rough exterior, he really tries to look out for Scout.
Jean Louise "Scout" She's a tomboy. I wish she could stay an innocent five-year-old girl forever, but I think Jem is having too much of an influence on her. She is beginning to learn about the evils of the world.
This summer I took on a challenging case concerning the young man, Tom Robinson. He was accused and found guilty of raping Mayella Ewell. I provided enough evidence to clear his name, yet they still convicted the poor man. | Tom Robinson on the witness stand.
Miss Maudie's house recently caught on fire, not that she cared. She was more concerned about her precious azaleas. The whole street still came out to help carry various items out of the scorching home. I was caught carrying her beloved mahogany rocking chair. Jem and Scout watched the whole thing from the Radley's light pole.
My pocket watch. I adore this. If Jem were to ever lose it... | Sometimes when I'm feeling in an extra good mood, I'll let him wear it to school. Recently, Jem and Scout found an old pocket watch in a hollowed out hole in the Radley's tree. Oh well. More watch for me.
I love reading the town newspaper. You can find me reading it every night, and Scout and Jem wake to me reading it first thing in the morning. I love nothing more than to bury myself in a good story. It helps me wind down in the evening and start a new day each morning.
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what" (Lee 112). When I told this to Jem, I wanted him to realize that whatever the situation, you never give up before putting up a fight.
