FC: ABC book for Catching Fire | By: Brandon Gianvito | Due: 9-10-2012
1: IS FOR ARROW | “I pull an arrow, whip the notch into place, and am about to let it fly." (Collins 158) This quote show how important arrows are because they are Katniss` favorite weapons.
2: Is For BRAVERY | "I can't let President Snow condemn me to this. Even if it means taking my own life. " (Collins 79) This shows how willing and brave Katniss is. Even in the face of death.
3: Is For Chaos | "That sent the whole country of Panem into chaos." (Collins 29) During this civil war between the Capital and the rebels the entire country becomes utter chaos.
4: Is for Districts | “We star-crossed lovers of District 12, who suffered so much and enjoyed so little the rewards of our victory, do not seek our fans' favor, grace them with our smiles, or catch their kisses. We are unforgiving. And I love it. Getting to be myself at last.” (Collins 45) This show how important districts are. They give everyone a identity.
5: Is for eccentric | "I'm stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. And it's so bizarre, even for Finnick.” (Collins 97) Throughout the book we see many strange and eccentric things, such as Finnick kissing Peeta.
6: Is for Fire | "The dress that burst into flames. " (Collins 20) In the series fire has this changing effect. It becomes part of the rebels culture. It also takes to become an important symbol with the girl on fire.
7: Is for Gale | “Gale is mine. I am his. Anything else is unthinkable.” (Collins 47) This shows the role Gale plays. He is the one that Katniss truly loves.
8: Is for Hunger | "'Safe to do what?' he says in a gentler tone. 'Starve?'" (Collins 114) Hunger is mentioned many times through out the book. With all that is happening the characters find themselves lacking in the required amount of food.
9: Is for Intellect | “'Aim higher in case you fall short.'" (Collins 127) Katniss, throughout the story, has very wise and intellectual things to say. Many of these quotes are helpful for more than they seem as well.
10: Is for Johanna Mason | "'I told you – I got them for you. Haymitch said if we were to be allies I had to bring them to you,' says Johanna. 'That's what you told him, right?'" (Collins 63) Johanna plays a minor role in the story but she too helps Katniss.
11: Is for Katniss | “We had to save you because you're the mockingjay, Katniss," says Plutarch. "While you live, the revolution lives.” (Collins 78) Katniss is the most important character in the book. She is the center of the rebels moral.
12: Is for Loyalty | "Although they never mention it, I owe the people who frequent the Hob. Gale told me that Greasy Sae, the old woman who serves up soup, started a collection to sponsor Peeta and me during the Games." (Collins 27) This shows that the people that knew them were so loyal that they were willing to give up there money to help them survive.
13: Is for MockingJay | “The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol's plans. The symbol of the rebellion.” (Collins 156) The mockingjay is the symbol of the rebellion, but in many ways Katniss it the mockingjay as well.
14: Is for nightlock | "That was the moment when I guessed that if the Gamemakers had to choose between watching Peeta and me commit suicide" (Collins 17) This quote is recalling events in the first book. It is speaking of when the two were about to eat the poisonous berries. Now these berries have a name, and it is nightlock.
15: Is for Oppression | Not only are we in the districts forced to remember the iron grip of the Capitol’s power each year, we are forced to celebrate it. (Collins 4) This shows how oppressing the capitol is. They force the districts to do the games.
16: Is for Peeta | "'If it is Peeta and me in the Games, this time we try to keep him alive.'" (Collins 57) This quote is from Katniss. Here she is speaking of Peeta who is the second main character.
17: Is for Quarter Quell | "'On the seventy-fifth anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors.' said Snow." (Collins 49) This quote is speaking of the Quarter Quell, which is actually the 75th anniversary of the first uprising.
18: Is for rebellion | "' I've got a rebellion to incite. '” (Collins 126) The rebellion in this book plays a very important role. This quote is from just before most of the battles happened.
19: Is for Snow | "'I believe you. It doesn't matter. Your stylist turned out to be prophetic in his wardrobe choice. Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, you have provided a spark that, left unattended, may grow to an inferno that destroys Panem,' Snow said." (Collins 25) Snow is the president of Panem. He plays a large role because the rebels are trying to overthrow him.
20: Is for Tension | “Tick, tock.” (Collins 118) This quote shows how tense this particular situation is. It shows how stressed they ae and how impatient they are getting as well.
21: Is for Uprising | "'Tossed the weapons in the sea in defiance of the Capitol?' Finnick asks." (Collins 143) This quote shows how the uprising is. Everyone does whatever possible to disobey the Capitol.
22: Is for Victors | "There can only be one victor " (Collins 58) Victors play a vital role because in the game of victors there can only be one victor.
23: Is for weapons | "As the Peacekeepers fell, weapons were appropriated for the rebels." (Collins 168) This shows how important weapons are. The rebels made sure to pickup the unused weapons out of the dead Peacekeepers hands.
24: Is for xerophilous | "Slowly I raise my eyes and take in the water spreading out in every direction." (Collins 68) This quote is speaking of how not xerophilous they are. They cannot survive without water.
25: Is for Yearn | "'Oh,' I say under my breath. 'Tick, tock.' My eyes sweep around the full circle of the arena and I know she's right. 'Tick, tock. This is a clock.'" (Collins 103) This quote shows how much Katniss yearns and desires an understanding of the arena.
26: Is for zap | "This time the electricity flowed for four minutes." (Collins 159) Electricity plays a role as a method of killing enemies. Throughout the book you hear of people being killed and trying to kill using electricity.
