FC: Energy Source Project
Solar Energy | Solar Energy is energy from the sun in the form of heat or radiation. Solar energy is a from or renewable energy. | Solar energy accounts for the largest percent of the worlds renewable energy. Surprisingly, only a fraction of available solar energy is being harnessed.
Solar Continued... | Solar energy is captured by the use of heat engines for heat energy and large black panels for the radiation called photvoltaics. The sun reaches the panels which heats the black surface and converts the heat into energy with a battery as shown in the picture below.
Hydroelectric Energy | Hydroelectric energy is another renewable energy source that is captured using running water. The running water pushes a propeller shaped object called a turbine. This turbine is attached to an electric generator. This turning turbine powers the generating producing electricity. | The energy from hydroelectric plants is usually constant but can change due to fluctuation in the force of the river's flow.
The Hoover Dam is the largest source of hydroelectric energy in the United States. | Hydroelectricity generates about 24 percent of the worlds energy and 12 percent of the United States.
Wind Energy | Wind energy is energy that is captured from the wind. Like hydroelectric energy, wind energy is captured by a moving turbine connected to a generator.
Wind turbines are an effective way to collect energy and its a never ending source. Turbines can be built just about anywhere even on water as shown in the picture.
Nuclear Energy | Nuclear Energy is a man made energy source. Electric machines called nuclear reactors that split atoms to cause nuclear reactions releasing high amounts of energy. These reactors are made at nuclear power plants.
nuclear power plant | Nuclear Reactor Model
Geothermal Energy | Geothermal energy is thermal energy that is stored in the earth. From thinks such as volcanic activity and absorbed solar energy the earth has heated energy.
Geothermal energy is captured by digging wells into the Earth that release hot greenhouse gases. These hot gases are then converted into energy with a generator.
 Fossil Fuels
Fossil Fuels are natural resource such as decomposed organisms that contain high amounts of carbon. Things such as coal petroleum, and natural gases come from fossil fuels which are burned to release their energy. | Fossil fuels are the primary consumption source for world energy.
