S: Once Upon a Time

BC: And they lived happily ever after!

FC: Once Upon a Time

This book is lovingly created & dedicated to Terese Marie Peterburs Nurse, wife, adviser, helpmate, mother, sister, daughter, friend, adventurous spirit, and inspiration.

I remember Mom telling me that Grandpa & Grandma Bullerman always wanted a little girl. After Duane was born, Grandma prayed to St. Therese of the Little Flower (who was born on January 2nd) that if she had a little girl she would name her Terese, in honor of the Little Flower. And on January 4th 1931, our Mom, Terese Marie Bullerman, was born. She was such a beautiful baby that Dr. Arnold wanted to buy her from Grandpa & Grandma Bullerman. ~Peggy | Terese Marie

Daddy and his "little girl" | Terese Marie and her Easter Bunny "Mom told me that her Grandpa Loosbrock told her she could catch a rabbit if you put salt on his tail. She would chase rabbits around the yard with the salt shaker in her hand & Grandpa Loosbrock would laugh til the tears rolled down his face. Looks like Mom got that bunny after all " ~Peggy

Terese Marie's First Communion about 1939 | There she is in the front row surrounded by boys. She says she was a tomboy and went to a one-room schoolhouse where she was the only girl. Six against one, I like those odds. ~ Scott

Us kids always thought Mom looked like a little vixen in this picture. She says she was only 14 years old when this picture was taken...really?! There's Lorry in the background. | Terese Marie in her Junior/Senior Prom Dress. | Terese Marie's High School Graduation Picture This has always been one of our favorite photos. Us kids would frequently talk about how she looks like a movie star in this picture.

Terese Marie decided that she wanted to be a Registered Nurse. So after high school she enrolled in McKennan Hospital's Nursing program in Sioux Falls, SD. Here she is with her patron saint, St. Therese of the Little Flower as a nursing student at McKennan. | After 3 years of hard work and studying, she passed her state boards and received her Registered Nurse license. | Terese Marie Bullerman, RN 1951

Meanwhile, in the nearby community of Lismore, Minnesota, in 1926 a little boy named Loren Peterburs was born. He and Terese Marie were destined to meet. | In early 1952, Terese Marie's friend Jean Thier, also a nurse, asked Terese Marie to go on a blind date with her and her fiance, Bobby Knips. Terese Marie's "blind date" was Loren Peterburs. Field of Dreams Loren and Terese

Terese Marie on her wedding day | Terese Marie with her three brothers (left to right): Duane, Lorry and Leon Bullerman | Daddy walks his "little girl" down the aisle

Terese Marie and Loren Peterburs November 18,1952 | Dinner napkin from the wedding dinner | Wedding announcement in the local newspaper

Mom always said she wanted "a dozen kids". Dad was on board for that. Here's Mom with Peggy. And that was just the beginning of a houseful of kids. | In this picture Peggy and Mom visit our big sister, Margaret Elizabeth. | "One of my earliest memories is of being rocked in Mom's arms with her singing 'You Are My Sunshine."' ~Patti

1960 Mom and Dad loved kids, as evidenced by our growing family. But we are not yet complete... | 1962 There we go. Now we are complete. Pandi Sue has arrived. | 1963 The clan is all here. This is one of our first formal family portraits. | 1964

1973 Our family is growing up and this is the year Peggy goes off to college. | 1980 | 1984

 1992 | 2010 Family Get-Together in Oceanside, CA

Born to be Wild | Think Big

Chicago, Illinois, December 1975 Mom goofing around with the "three little kids," Brett, Pamela, and Pandi Sue. | Pic Series 1 | Pic Series 2 | Pic Series 3 | The squeezing of Mom by kids 4 & 5. She survived. See Pic Series 2 & 3. | Perky, Pinchy, Cheeky? | Glutton for punishment? How many people and smiles can we fit into this picture booth? | "We were on our way back home to Minnesota from a Christmas holiday trip to Florida (Dad was towing the trailer behind the station wagon) and we got stranded in Chicago due to a blizzard. Mom had a way of adding levity to challenging situations and making them seem less scary. Thanks Mom! " ~Pamela & Pandi Sue

Terese Marie and Loren taught their children the importance of family. I'm sure they learned this core value while growing up. Left: Mom with her parents and brothers. Below: Mom with Lorry and Duane. | "I also recall a time when all of us kids had to feed & water the chickens. We used 5 gallon cans to carry water to the brooder house & they were heavy. Terese Marie, being innovative, decided to use Duane's new 1948 Coupe to carry the water. While driving to the brooder house, she accidentally drove under a low hanging tree branch & broke off the antenna. Duane was not happy about this & swatted her on the butt with the antenna she broke off of his car! Talk about a tough lesson! " ~Lorry | A Memory from Lorry "Once, when I was in first grade, I was especially unhappy about being in school. So, I stood outside Terese Marie's classroom in search of comfort from my big sister. Terese Marie promptly came to my side, consoled me, and escorted me back to my classroom. What a wonderful and loving big sister!"

Circa 1966 Here's Terese Marie with her parents and all six kids at Grandpa and Grandma Bullerman's farm outside of Adrian. | 1963 Extended family picture that includes Terese Marie with her parents, Florian and Olivia. Loren is taking the picture. We had just moved to our new house on Tyler Street in Minneapolis. | 1963 Extended family picture that includes Terese Marie, Loren, Loren's parents, Frank and Loretta, his brother Elwood and sister-in-law Kathleen.

1984 Terese Marie and her four girls. We look good! | 1990 Terese Marie and her four girls again! She's one of the girls. It's just like having another sister. | Christmas 2008 How many is too many, really?

Before and After An unsuspecting Terese Marie sits calmly, contentedly, and proudly next to her two adult sons, Scott and Brett, when, without warning, and to her complete surprise, they simultaneously plant a kiss on both of her cheeks. Those "cheeky" boys!

While she loved being a mother, Terese Marie also loved being a nurse. "Although I may look like an angel in this photo, that was far from the truth. Mom was as good at fixing our "ouchies" with kisses as she was at disciplining us. Like the time I called one of my sisters a name. I was promptly marched to the bathroom and had my mouth washed out with soap. I learned my lesson." ~Pamela | On her way to to work "I remember Mom coming home from work and telling me about her shift. I always found her reports interesting and this is perhaps the reason I chose nursing as a profession." ~Peggy

Terese Marie worked as a nurse in a number of roles including office nurse, ward nurse on a postpartum unit, school nurse, teaching CPR and teaching in the EMT Program at Spring Lake Park High School.

"Growing up there was always a camera around the house somewhere. And for some reason I'll never understand, Mom never believed we were actually going to take her picture. As a result, we have numerous photos of Mom doing her 'cheesy' smile. See exhibit A at left." ~Peggy | Exhibit B: Mom's 'cheesy' smile at Grandma B's house | Another prime example: "We're gonna take your picture Mom & Dad." Mom's like "Oh sure!" Dad just looks a little puzzled by it all. (Love the slip, Mom. Whatever were you two up to anyway?)

"And it appears that this is genetic! Thanks, Mom!" ~Pandi Sue | Yeah, Mom you still don't believe that those CRAZY kids will actually take that picture! | Yeah...there's alot of that going around!

"I remember making these pajamas for Mom and Dad. I didn't think that they'd actually wear them. Mom & Dad always had a way of making us feel appreciated & valued as individuals." ~ Pandi Sue | And then of course there were the times when Mom knew perfectly well that a picture was being taken & she just decided to be herself! Here Mom & Dad are in PJs that Pandi Sue had sewn for them. Above: Mom doing her "Karate" impersonation Below: Mom's Baby imitation

Mom trying on Scott's Tux Jacket | More fun and games from our Mom! Notice the picture of Emmett Kelly on the wall in the background.

An adventurous spirit, Mom is willing to try almost anything. She has been parasailing, soaring in a glider plane, fishing for halibut in Alaska, and on the facing page we see her practicing her freefall technique with Scott in the wind tunnel in Eloy, Arizona.

Mom's 'Skydiving Adventure 2009 Eloy, AZ

Words from the Book of Mom A quitter never wins and a winner never quits. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I'm so far behind, I thought I was first! If they all jumped off a bridge...would you? Do it right, or don't do it at all. Don't try dying, die trying. Have fun, but be careful... Get yer butt in gear!

...and a sense of humor. | Love, Respect, Friendship...

7783 Tyler Street | Her love made our house a home. | Who could forget the infamous banana sticker door? (Scott started it, Mom!)
