 The Big Surprise
Who would have thought that on an ordinary school day, in the third grade, I would get one of the biggest surprises of my life! Well it happened and it all started years before when I would always ask for a dog. I have always wanted a dog ever since I can remember. Everyone in my family wanted one too, except for my dad.
He was always saying how a dog would be too much work for us to handle. My dad was afraid a dog would chew up everything in our house.
I tried everything to convince my dad to get a dog. I made little signs out of index cards that said "Please Dad can I have a puppy?" with a drawing of a cute dog. I put notes everywhere so my dad could see them wherever he went. I placed them on his pillow, on his bathroom mirror, on the front door, and on his dinner plate. I put them everywhere!
One day my dad started to ask me questions about dogs, like what kinds of dog would I want and If I ever got a dog what would I name it. After thinking about it I realized I really didn't care what kind of dog I got as long as we just got one.
Then, I started to get a little suspicious because of all the questions my dad was asking me. Was I really going to get a dog? Was my wish coming true? But as time went on and on, I thought my dad forgot all about it. He didn't mention the "D" word anymore and I was so sad. My pleas for a dog were getting less and less, but I still wanted one more than anything in the world.
Then one day in June of 2008, I was sitting in our playroom after school. My mom came home with my cousin, William, who was carrying a small box. William said he brought over a new blender for us to use. My mom told me to open it so we could make strawberry smoothies.
When William placed the box down on the floor, a little black furry head popped out. It was the cutest Cockapoo puppy I ever saw. She had soft black fur all over except for a strip of white down her chest.
Her fluffy paws were tiny and her big brown eyes were staring up at us. I was so excited I started to cry happy tears. My wish had come true - at last!! We have had Lucy Lu for four years now and I love her just as much today as the first time I saw her. Lucy loves to play, eat treats, and sleep.
She also loves to to be hugged and have her stomach rubbed. Lucy loves to be around people and other dogs but she hates taking a bath and eating vegetables.
Lucy is polite and obedient like a princess. She is also a very lovable and affectionate dog. Lucy is truly a part of our family and I could not imagine what it would be like not having her around.
