FC: Senior Memoir | Emma Lee Lusk | 2011
Emma Before I was born my mom and dad starting searching for their daughter. My brothers name was beau so at first they thought they would name me something that sounded kind of like beau, like Chloe or Margo. Another possibility was something that started with a B like Bonnie or Blanch. And then my mom thought it would be nice to name me after her mother who’s name was Mary Alice. So they considered Alison Marie but it just didn’t seem like it would be the right name for their baby girl. My dads mom name is Mary Elizabeth and her mom name was Mildred Claire. My moms name is Melinda Jeanne and my dads name is Alan Lee. They realized that there were lots of family names that started with the letter M so they came up with Emma as a name that could stand for all of those M names. Then when they put it together with my dads middle name, Lee, I ended up being named Emma Lee Lusk. I sure am glad they didn’t pick one of those other names because I like my name and cant imagine being called anything but Emma.
Family | It was a week before Christmas and I was at Kmart looking at Hot Wheels cars. There were so many to look at but which one will be the winner? I wanted one that was a pretty color and looked fast. I finally made my choice and purchased it. A week later, we all arrived on Christmas day at my Aunt Laurie’s house with bags and bags of presents and of course our Hot Wheels cars that were not to be taken out of their package until right before the big race; this ensured that tampering did not occur. My brother, Beau, and my mom had worked hard to make the bracket for this year so that everyone would get to race several times. The first race was between the oldest and the youngest. That was my little cousin, Chaz ,and Grandpa, Grandpa won! Chaz was heartbroken because he won last year and had hopes of keeping the trophy for another year. Uncle Bill and Aunt Kim and their son, Tim, forgot there cars this year so they used some of the extras my mom had brought. They turned out to be good ones because they ended up with first and third place and my grandpa got second! This is just one of the fun things my mom’s family does when we get together. We spend a lot of time together and always have a good time. We are together on almost all of our birthdays and about every holiday plus more. We love to color Easter eggs all together every year. We go to watch Nick and Chaz play basketball and baseball and we go watch Tim play volleyball. Nobody is ever mean or even mad at each other. They are all just nice, supportive, and smart people and I am glad to be a part of this family. I think my annts and uncles are so close and so loving because their mother died when they were young and they relied on each other to get through whatever happened in their lives. Another reason is my grandpa because he is just a nice man that people around town all know as one of the best guys they have ever met.

I call my grandpa P-pa because that’s the name my older brother started calling him when he was just a baby. He couldn’t say Grandpa so he said P-pa and everyone thought it was cute so that’s what we call him. My P-pa and I have a special relationship because I am his only granddaughter. There are four grandsons so I get to be the princess. He is the nicest and funniest man and most people that know him love him. Whenever I'm around him he always has some interesting and funny stories to tell. He likes to tell stories about the old days and the things he has done. He has four sisters and when his parents got divorced when he was young he spent time living with his older siblings and aunts and uncles and worked on the farm. He went to Japan in the army at the end of World War II and spent a year there then he work on various road and bridge crews until he retired. He is 85 years old now and I would rather spend time with him than a lot of people I know my age.
 My Homes | 2nd House | !!1st House | 3rd House | 4th House | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
1st House- State Route 47. This is the very first house I ever lived in. It was a nice house and it had a good location because it was close to route 4. I remember it had big kitchen and a huge family room with a fireplace. There was also a swimming pool where I learned to swim when I was only four years old. I lived there for five years. 2nd House- 15275 Boundary Road. This was the second house I ever lived in. We moved here because my dad wanted to have horses and we didn't have enough yard at our other house. My dad also wanted to live closer to his parents. This was the house where I had the biggest room with my favorite decor. The property had the most land out of all the ones I lived at. I loved riding our golf cart around our fence and swimming in the swimming pool. When I started 4-H in the third grade, I had lambs in the huge barn. I lived there until the end of eighth grade. 3rd House- 13439 Mulvane Road. This was my favorite house out of all the ones I've lived in. It had a lot of room and storage for everything and the kitchen was awesome. It was close to town but still in the country. My friend and I rode our bikes to town all the time the first summer I lived there and I still had a place for my 4-H goats in a shed behind the house. We only lived in this house for a short time because my parents got divorced. 4th / Current House- 239 Grove Street. This is the house where I live now. It is right in town which is good because it is easy to get to school and other places. It is the smallest out of all the houses I have lived in but it is fine for my mom, my brother and me. Vacation/Dads House- This is where we bought are vacation home. We bought this so we could go to Indian Lake on the weekends and not have to worry about finding a camp site because they were hard to find and they would not let us drive around on our golf cart. We also had a boat docked at the lake. My family lived here for a couple of months at one point because we sold our house on Boundary Road and had not found another one. After my parents got divorced my dad moved into this house where he still lives and where I live when I spend time with him.
Mom (: She is not only my mom, she is my best friend. Since the time I was little we have gone pretty much everywhere together. We always went shopping together which was one of our favorite things to do together. We also loved to go camping. We went camping at Mohican, Indian Lake, Lake St. Mary’s, and Lake Erie. We stay in a tent but we don’t rough it at all; we take a DVD player and we go out to eat for all our meals and during the day we shop normally. . We love to go to Put- N-Bay and ride around on a golf cart and look at all the huge houses and boats! We also like to go to the African Safari while we are there. It was my freshman year of high school and my mom went to the hospital for a routine check up. We didn’t think anything of it but it turned into something big. That’s when my mom and dad told us that my mom had cancer. When they first told me I didn’t know what to think or say. You hear about this on TV and everything but I never thought it would happen so close to home. Not only dealing with the fact the my mom has cancer, I had to deal with my parents no longer being together and getting divorced. At first this didn’t seem realistic but I soon realized how real and hard things were going to be. My mom is the strongest person I know! There is no way I could go through all the stuff she does. When we go to the doctors they can never believe that she has kept working full time through this other than the two times she had to be out for surgery. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her. She has never given up and she is always there for me when I needed her. I can go to her to talk about anything. Everyone always says that their mothers mean the world to them but when the possibility of losing your mother hits you in the face the normal mother/daughter relationship gets thrown out the window, I love my mom with all my heart and I will do anything and everything for her.
It was a warm summer evening and the swing in my front yard was itching to have company that would make the evening fun. That was what happened quite often when Emma and her friends gathered for an evening of laughing and hanging out. The swing’s memories were very clear about each of the special nights. There was one time when Emma and Ashley, Brittany, Ruthie, and Michaela all decided they were going to spend the night on the swing. Amazingly they all fit even with blankets and pillows and snacks. It started out with a lot of giggling and talking. There were boys in cars that drove by to see what was going on. It was exciting to think about being out all night even though it was just a few feet from the house. All went well until late into the wee hours of the night when we heard jungle type noises (a peacock) and decided it was time to go into the house to sleep in peace. This was just one time that the swing and friends joined forces to produce a fun and exciting evening. No matter which friends gathered on the swing, interesting things seemed to always happen. My friends and I also like to drive around in our cars and sing along to the radio. We spend time together shopping and eating out almost every weekend. Even though my friends have changed from time to time, hanging out with all of them has been a great part of my life in high school. I wouldn’t trade a minute of it for anything. My friends have made my high school years worth putting up with. I hope we all keep in touch after graduation.
The excitement of a vacation never fails to give me a rush. Going camping is the usual type of vacation and water is always part of the package. My ideal vacation would be to swim all day every day. Lake Erie is a destination that happens almost every summer because there are a variety of places to go and sights to see. A favorite day is to take the ferry to Put-in-Bay then rent a golf cart to explore the island and visit Crystal Cave and the gem mining attraction. It is fun to see all the people and fancy boats in the harbor. We saw pirates one time who were re-enacting a battle with the military. Another attraction at Lake Erie is called African Safari where we drive through an area where wild animals come up to the vehicle to eat. The animals, like buffalo, deer, llamas, yaks, and long horned beasts, stick their heads right in the windows to get food. It is scary and exciting at the same time. Another destination is Mohican State Park, where we go canoeing and exploring Amish country. People-watching is great fun at a campground because setting up a tent or camper can be quite comical. It is also interesting to see all the different types of tents and campers. We always have to find time to swim, and at Mohican, there is a great pool and the river runs right through the camping area. When I was younger, Indian Lake was our vacation spot. We started out with a pop up camper at the state park but then we bought a boat and a trailer so we could go to the lake whenever we wanted. We spent almost every week-end from early in May through late in October and even Christmas break at our get-a-way. The boat was fun to take to the swimming area or fishing or tubing. We could even take the boat to McDonalds or Taco Bell.
 2nd Car | 1st Car | 3rd/Current Car | Scooter
I got my first car for my sixteenth birthday. It was a 1991 white Chevy Blazer that my dad got me. It turned out to be a real blazer in December when it caught fire on its way to Marysville. My next car was a 1990 Honda Accord that my dad painted lime green and gave to me for my seventeenth birthday. It was a great car because everyone knew it was me and lime green is one of my favorite colors but in September, I had an accident and totaled it. No more lime green Honda for me! :( My next vehicle was a knee roller that I got to ride around on for two months while I healed from my accident. When I was ready to drive again my dad found me another Honda Accord, only it was a 1988 and maroon. That is what I drive now. It gets me around but its not as cool as the green car. | My Rides
