Andrew William Haskins September 19, 2008
Andrew William Haskins was born on September 19, 2008 at 5:09 p.m. to proud parents, Amy and Rick, and new big sister, Ella Anne. What a surprise that mommy had a baby boy, because some of us were expecting another girl. Andrew was named after grandfather's on both sides of the family.
It's a boy! The family started showing up as soon as possible after Andrew's birth to meet him. We were all rushing from work!
Most of us missed the actual delivery, except for daddy and mommom, and of course, mommy. Andrew got the nickname "rocket man" because of how quickly he was born! Ella was so happy to have a new baby brother! Mommom showed Ella how to hold a newborn and how to touch him gently, but this would prove to take some practice on Ella's part. Look at those tiny baby feet!!
Soon after Andrew was born, it was Halloween! Big sister, Ella, dressed up as a witch - scary! And Andrew baby, as he had become to be known, was a pumpkin - awww. October was also the month Andrew's umbilial cord fell off - October 5. Ella thought it was a boo boo, so she was glad to see it go. Ella has learned by listening to mommy how to soothe her baby brother: "I know, baby. I know." She's becoming quite the little mommy.
At seven weeks and two days old, on November 9, 2008, Andrew William Haskins was baptized into the Catholic Church with a ceremony at St. Mary of the Assumption in Hockessin, DE. Aunt Erin became his God-mother and Jason Schnader became his God-father. We had a party at Mommom and BuppyÂ’'s where a lot family and friends came to meet Drew for the first time. Everyone told his mommy and daddy how cute he was and everyone wanted to hold and kiss him.
In November, Andrew is smiling and cooing a lot. He enjoys being held by any and all, and is pictured with his great-grandfather, nono, here. | Andrew is eating more now, and gaining weight like he should, and celebrating his first Thanksgiving. Everyone adores him and now his nona has TWO babies to feed! She's in love!
It's Christmastime and Andrew is giggling and laughing a lot - and he's even babbling baby talk too! He laughs and smiles when mommy does the "run, run, run" with his little leggies. Andrew got to sit on Santa's lap this year! And Nana and Paw Paw came for a visit to see their little peanut.
Andrew is three and a half months old when he rings in the new year, 2009. He goes to daycare for the first time on January 20, 2009. Ella promises to continue to help take care of her brother at daycare, and proves this by always putting his binky back in his mouth for him, dancing with him, and laying on the floor with him to make him laugh. Andrew is also very curious now, likes to look around a lot, and is fascinated by his own hands. Mommy says he sounds like Popeye when he says "ug gug gug gug" when trying to talk with his binky in his mouth. What a funny bunny!
Andrew sits up by himself now and LOVES playing on Aunt Erin like she's a jungle gym. Drew's features are also becoming more clear and he looks a lot like his Buppy did when he was a baby boy.
Andrew stands up on his own now (but no walking yet) and also has teeth! He actually got his first tooth on March 10, 2009 and his second soon after. He was 16lbs, 14oz and 27 inches long at his six-month-old well-baby visit! He slobers a lot, squirms around all the time and also likes to pinch mommy on the back of her arms. And no surprise, he's become a biter! Just testing out those new teeth, we guess.
It's Easter! And Andrew has been trying new foods all the time. He likes to give a mixed look of wonderment and disgust. But on Easter, that look was replaced with surprise when he got to try some delicious candy! Next year he'll be big enough for the Easter Egg Hunt. This year he's just Aunt Erin's little gift. ;)
It's summertime and Aunt Erin is engaged to soon-to-be "Uncle Day." Andrew gets to spend some time at mommom and buppy's beach house in OCMD, and life is good. Andrew started pulling himself up in early June, and got his first taste of an Italian baby staple - pastina. He also holds his arms out to people now, to get them to pick him up. So precious!
It's birthday time and Andrew is turning ONE. It's amazing how quickly time flies by. Andrew crawls now, shrieks to get your attention, and says things resembling "daddy," "hi," "thank you," and his own version of "bless you." Other words he's trying to perfect include, "mommy" and "buppy." Meanwhile, his tiny baby giggle is infectious. He's a very happy boy!
It's Halloween 2009 and Andrew laughs like a big boy now! This year, Ella's Snow White and Andrew's a dwarf. Andrew loves pretending to talk on the phone and can walk when someone holds his fingers.
It's Christmas 2009 and Andrew can say "Ella," and climb onto furniture all by himself now. Look out, world - here he comes! And he kisses too!
Andrew can say a whole bunch of words this Christmas, like apple, nana, pawpaw, mommom, buppy, mommy, daddy, Ella, baby, peek-a-boo, moo, kitty cat, shoe, sock, hot, and hat! Boy! Mommy thinks he says a lot more things than Ella did at this age. He also stands from a sitting position w/o holding on to anything. But still wants mommy to carry him all the time!
It's 2010 and Andrew insists on being a big boy, sitting and eating at the table like everyone else, and saying "NO!" if you try to help him eat. He thinks playing peek-a-boo is hilarious, and loves playing "Wiiiiiiii" with daddy! His new obsession is going down the stairs all by himself. Scary!!!
It's Easter! And Andrew says well over the 50 words expected of a child his age. He learns from Ella. ;) Getting to dye Easter eggs this year was SO FUN!
Ella and Andrew got to go on a private Easter Egg Hunt this year in mommom and buppy's fancy living room. Andrew's not as quick as Ella, but he still has a blast finding the hidden eggs. And he gets his own "loaf" of Easter bread from nona this year. A family tradition! Not to mention, a basket full of delicious candy from the Easter Bunny.
It's summertime and the family is headed to OCMD again! Andrew gets to ride the kiddie rides on the boardwalk this year all by himself! Such a big boy! Look at him on the Embers turtle!! | He's growing up so fast that if you try to help him with anything, Andrew will declare, "No boss me!" He does NOT like being told what to do. This summer is all about asserting some independence!
Aunt Erin married Uncle Dave on June 26, 2010 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Andrew was the ring bearer and Ella was the flower girl. What a beautiful day and wonderful evening. Sentimental and fun –all wrapped into one!
Summertime means birthdays!! Mommy, Aunt Erin & Aunt Laura were born in July, then Ella in August & Andrew in September. Party time at Aunt Erin's!
Andrew is roudy and fun, a boy through and through. He plays nicely with his big sister, but is clearly developing his own unique interests, like playing instruments. He loves the guitar the most and turns anything resembling one into a guitar by finding a way to hold it and strum it like it'’s the real thing! Rock on, Andrew! He also likes to “'hi ya”' everyone – his version of martial arts, haha. | What could be better than old-school toys mommom has dug out of hiding that belonged to his mommy and aunts? His favorites are the drum set and the cash register, but there’'s also a ticking clock and a record player. He and Ella are also both really into pillow pets now. They each got two this year!
Andrew turned TWO on September 19, 2010. Mommy and daddy had a big birthday party at their house, and daddy baked Andrew a guitar cake! Hmm, wonder why? All of Ella and Andrew's friends came over to play and celebrate. What a fun day. Happy birthday, Andrew!
