FC: Cells | Lei Shen Matthew Smith

Made by Lei Shen and Matthew Smith

Hi, I am an animal cell. Right now I am in homeostasis, which means that I am in tip top condition. I am at a constant temperature, hydration and etc. I am perfectly ready for tonight's fight. I can't wait to see who I'm going to fight.

Hey, I am a plant cell. I am going to fight someone today. My secret weapon is my cell wall.

 In this corner.....The ANIMAL CELL!!!

Weighing 0.0001 milligrams and protected by a cell membrane! A cell membrane is squishy outer layer on a cell that protects the cell from pathogens and keeps all the organelles in place. | CELL MEMBRANE

The animal cell is equipped with various organelles such as the mitochondria, lysosomes, ribosomes, golgi apparatus and Smooth ER.

The mitochondria harvests energy from organic compounds to make ATP, the main energy for cells.

The lysosome is the cells disposal system. It works with the vacuoles by disposing enzymes into them and digesting its contents.

Ribosomes are the cellular structures that makes proteins. It is attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

The Golgi Apparatus is a set of flattened membrane bound sacs that serve as the packaging and distribution center of the cell.

The Smooth ER moves proteins and other substances through the cell. It also makes lipids and breaks down toxic substances.

And in the other corner...the PLANT CELL!!!

Also weighing 0.0001 milligrams, the plant cell is protected by both a cell wall and a cell membrane! The cell wall protects the plant cell from outside dangers. It also supports and maintains the shape of the cell.

The plant cell is equipped with various organelles such as the rough ER, chloroplasts, the central vacuole, the nucleus, and cytoplasm.

The rough ER moves proteins through the cell. There are embedded proteins in it and ribosomes are attached to the outside of the rough ER.

The chloroplast turns sun light into energy for the cell through photosynthesis.

The central vacuole makes u the most mass of the cell. It store the water for the cell.

The nucleus hold the DNA ,and assembles ribosomes . The nucleus contains nuclear pore which are used for getting things from the nucleus to the cytoplasm.

The cytoplasm is a jelly like substance that all the other organelles float in. It fills the empty space in the cell.

 3...2...1...FIGHT!!!!

And the plant cell WINS!!! All because of it's mighty cell wall!

For your next challenge, plant cell, the prokaryote!!

The plant cell wins because the prokaryote doesn't have a nucleus and just stood there!!!

I see Cells!!! And they appear to be fighting????

I learn new things about cells everyday. Just the other day I learned about cell theory.

Cell theory states that all cells arise from other cells, cells are the smallest unit of life, and all living things are made of cells.

The scientist who discovered cells were : Virchow, Hooke, Schwann, and Schlieden.
