S: Cells Are What's Up!
BC: The endoplasmic reticulum synthesizes protein and forms a network within the cell. | The ribosome uses amino acids to form specific protein molecules which help the cell function properly.
1: Cell Theory 1).All organisms consist of one or more cells. If you are a living organism you have at least one cell. 2.)The cell is the basic unit of structure for all organisms.- All organisms are composed of cells. 3.)All cells are made only from pre-existing cells.Cells only come from other cells.
2: Plant Cells Vs Animal Cells; Animal Cells do not have a cell wall, where plant cells do. A cilia is very rare in a plant cell. A plant cell has a rectangular shape where an animal cell has an irregular or round shape. A plant cell has chloroplasts and animal cell does not because it does not produce its’ own food like a plant cell. Animal and plant cells both have cytoplasm, a mitochondria, and ribosomes. An animal cell has a small or many small vacuoles and a plant cell has one large vacuole taking up 90% of the cell space. Centrioles are present in all animal cells and only present in lower form of plant cells. Plastids are present in plant but not animal cells. These are just some similarities and differences between animal and plant cells.
3: The main function of the cell membrane is that it forms a barrier between the inside of the cell and the outside, so that the environment on the two sides can be different. The inside has all the internal parts which help the cell function and the outside has a protection which keeps the inside from getting harmed, destroyed, or infected.
4: A cell maintains homeostasis because the cell membrane secures what stays in and comes out. It knows what to take out if it is unnecessary and knows what is necessary to maintain equilibrium. The cell membrane can change how the inside and outside of the cell works. | Homeostasis
5: Some differences with Prokaryote and Eukaryote are: A eukaryote has a true nucleus, consisting of nuclear membrane & nucleolia, but Prokaryote has no nuclear membrane or nucleoli. The Eukaryotic is much larger in size compared to a Prokaryotic cell. Also Eukaryotic cells have membrane-bound organelles, Prokaryotic cells have only one organelle: the ribosomes. Ribosomes look different in size and shape in Prokaryotes rather than Eukaryotes. Eukaryotic has nucleus, the control center of the cell. This is where the chromosomes (DNA) are stored in a double phospholipid membranes. The Prokaryotic cell has, not a nucleus, but a space where the DNA is stored is in the plasmids. Prokaryotes are all unicellular. Eukaryotes, are sometimes multicellular, but can be a single celled organism. Some Similarities are: Both have cell membranes made of phospholipid chains with cholesterol and proteins stuck in between. Both have ribosomes and DNA which controls how the organism behaves and looks.
6: Hooke- He was an English natural philosopher, architect and polymath.Hooke had discovered plant cells. What Hooke saw were the cell walls in cork tissue. | Virchow was born on 13-Oct-1821. He was born in Swidwind, Poland. Virchow believed that disease originates in cells, not in tissues, organs, or entire organisms.Virchow has studied medicine and chemistry in Berlin. He studied at the Prussian Military Acdaemy from 1839-1843. He is credited for many important discoveries. He helped discover the cell theory. He is known as one of the first to b e able to recognize leukemia. At first he did not accept the theory of cell division and later accepted thinking it might make sense. Virchow is mainly known for finding medical fields of cellular pathology.
7: Matthias Schleiden was a German botanist and co-founder of the cell theory, along withTheodor Schwann and Rudolf Virchow. Schleiden. preferred to study plant structure under the microscope. He stated that the different parts of the plant organism are composed of cells. Schleiden and Schwann became the first to formulate a principle of biology. | Schwann- developed a physico-chemical explanation of cells. He discovered the organic nature of yeast (enzymes). All living things are composed of cells and cell products that are reproduced. He proved the cellular origin and development of the most highly differentiated tissues.
8: The cell membrane helps protect the cell and regulates what comes in and out. | The golgi complex regulates calcium and packages proteins for the cell to use. | The cell wall protects the outside of the cell from intruders. | The flaggella and cillia are in charge of reproduction.
9: A chromosome is a structure of DNA and protein. | The lysosome contains enzymes that break down molecules. Also digests and recycles used cell components. | Mitochondria provides energy to the cell to move, divide, and function. | The nucleus is in control of the cell and gives it directions and blueprints to everything.
