FC: The 5 Themes of Geography! By: Noah Pike

The World The first theme of geography is location. Location is a certain place that cities, people, or things are at on Earth. You can find a location by looking at a map. There are two kinds of location. Absolute location is one of them. Absolute location is using latitude and longitude to find the exact place. Relative location is a location relative to another location.

Up above is Owensboro Kentucky. | Below are some locations around the world.

The second theme of geography is Human/Environmental interactions. This is the affect on the environment by people. When people log a woods it changes the environment for animals. But sometimes the environment limits the choices of people. It can even control or determine what people can and can not do with the environment.

Above is Mount Rushmore. This was formed from people carving out 4 presidents faces in South Dakota. | Below are some people picking up trash and cleaning the environment.

The 3rd theme of geography is Regions. There are three types of regions. They are formal, functional, and perceptual. Formal region is visible and measurable with much detail. Region is an area of space that is located on Earth's surface and has boundaries often evident on the ground. Functional regions are like cities and their suburbs. A lot of interaction and movement of various kinds. Perceptual regions are mostly in the minds of people. The way people describe a region.

Above is the Audit trail region that goes through Indiana and Kentucky. | Below are some regions of the United States.

The 4th theme of geography is Place. Place has to do with a lot of culture, physical processes, climate, and vegetation. Culture is peoples lifestyles, values, beliefs, and traits. Physical processes are environmental processes which explain human activity. The climate is the average weather over a long period of time. Vegetation like the plant life of a place, and what plants are in a place.

Owensboro is a place in Kentucky. | The Eiffel Tower in Paris is a place in France.

The 5th theme of geography is Movement. The movement of cultural diffusion is the spread of an ideology from its source to another culture. Expansion diffusion is an ideology that develops in an area and remains strong while spreading outward. The movement of relocation diffusion is spread of an ideology through physical movement of people. Those are some examples of movements.

Here is the movement of people and animals. | Below is a cargo ship carrying goods across a body of water
