S: Memories 2011
BC: \We Love you!
Your hearts have touched our hearts!
Pastor & Mary, As I typed up these letters, notes, & cards and began arranging the pages together I cannot describe how it has touched me. I am humbled & privileged to have been used by God to assemble this little book. There is an overwhelming theme that runs from cover to cover stemming from the love that you have lavished on those around you, so much that all feel a sense that they are family. All because Jesus first loved us and gave His life for us. You not only accepted that love, you in turn learned to pour out that love to those around you and we are changed. Thank you. Shari
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. Isaiah 55:12
Isaiah 35 :1-6 1 The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; 2 It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, The excellency of our God. 3 Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. 4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “ Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.
Isaiah 35: 7-10 7 The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with reeds and rushes. 8 A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. 9 No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Dear Pastor Cliff and Mary, Thank you for all your love and support. We wouldn't be where we are today without your kind words and encouragement at difficult times. You are such wonderful people. Sincerely, Donna Schneider
Pastor and Mary, We want you to know how thankful we are to have you as our pastors. You have brought the church a long way from where it was when you came. God knew we needed the two of you. We have enjoyed your friendship and the love you have shown us over the years. Also we can not forget the spinach enchilada incident at the River Walk. Should have had the camera out for that. May God richly bless you in your lives and ministry. In Christs love Roger & Linda Hamilton
I am thankful and appreciated Pastor Cliff & Mary beyond words. It is not easy to put this into words. It took losing Jerry before I realized what I was missing. That's a big wake up call. Thankfully the Holy Spirit was there, along with Pastor and Mary to help pick up the pieces. Jerry had found what I am just now finding. The true love of Jesus Christ. He has given that love to the two most wonderful people. Thank you for all that you do and for all that you have done for my family. You are such wonderful, gracious and loving people... It is my honor to know you. Lea Drennan
A Jesus seeker - presence friendly church
Pastor Cliff and Mary were very supportive of us in a very delicate situation when we were going through the adoption of Andrew and Nathan. No matter where we go we will always look fondly on our time of ministering with the Sheldon's and consider them very close friends. We love them! Julie Vance
Pastor Cliff and Mary, Where would we be today if you had not come to Watertown? Your lives are an example of the character of God being walked out. Your love, kindness, firmness, patience..the list could go on. We appreciate you in so many ways, there are not enough words. Know that as you serve the Lord, He is very pleased with you, and as you do what you can do.the end results are in His hand. May you continue to grow in wisdom and stature so that you can continue to lead your sheep to the refreshing waters and green pastures. We love you very much. Steve & Nila Bath and family
Mary, Thank you for taking time to visit with me at your house. What an admirable lady you are. What a friend we have in Jesus, is a beautiful song and you brought that more to life with your childhood memories with your mother. I love listening to you share. Thanks for all you do. Tudy Rudebusch
Pastor Cliff and Mary,, We have so many memories like when decorating the church for Christmas in 2006 Mary asked what our wedding colors were and instead of the purple and gold balls on the tree that had been there every year-Mary found the red poinsettias and used those and the silver bulbs that Mom had bought. We appreciated the extra thought to help make our day beautiful. | love
Also the very first Sunday that, Eric, came to church, Pastor, led him to the Lord. Later they found out they had a lot in common - welding, shooting things, blowing things up... I think of all the times hanging out in the basement watching Andrew, Jen, Shauna, and Eric playing Mario Cart and you have treated us like family since day one. We are grateful. We love you guys, Tosha & Eric Fuher
Dear Pastor Sheldon & Mary, This is a letter letting you know how much I think of you both. That was one of the pleasures of moving to South Dakota from West Virginia. The Pastor and I had a language problem and Mary had to be my interpreter because Pastor did not understand my hillbilly talk. Pastor Sheldon and Mary do a great job at pastoring our church. I know we have put lots-lots of gray hair on their head, also many sleepless nights.
Pastor I love your sermons you give us every Sunday. I can tell you spend time and prayer over them. I like the way you bring you message out so clear and you stay in the bible. If we do not understand, all we need to do is call you and you will explain it to us. You really do have a pastors heart. It gets hard and sometimes a burden on you, but God is always there to give you the peace and strength to go forth. Mary I love to hear you and the choir sing. That really sets the people to get in the mood to worship and praise God. God loves to hear us sing and worship him. There is nothing like good music in church. I am so glad for Christian Life Assembly of God church. When you attend that church you know you will be taught the Word of God. Our Pastor can really put out a sermon and he sure loves God and to minister to us. I know for sure they are very compassionate and will help you in any way they can. I want to thank Pastor Sheldon and Mary for everything they have done for me. May God bless our church and the congregation. God bless Pastor and Mary, their children and grandchildren. God Bless Forever, Shjrley Lewno
Thank you for giving to the Lord, we are lives that were changed, we are so glad you gave, from the song Thank You. We so appreciate and are Thankful for our Pastor and Mary, for walking with us in our spiritual journey, for walking through our difficult times and for maturing us spiritually. When we first started coming here seven years ago, right after we got married, you welcome us. Ken had not been to church in his adult life, and Pastor, you took him under your wings, and he wanted to be baptized. Amen, we are thankful. Now he is a spiritual leader in our home, always praying for hurting people, and always consulting God for advise on our future. Thank You. Thank you for being with us in our difficult times, when we lost our home, you both were here and helped us greatly, with helping hands (caring things out of the basement), to prayers, and holding us together.
Mary thank you for walking through the Committed to Freedom , which took great time, patience, and energy on your part. Thank you. And finally, Pastor and Mary, for maturing us spiritually, we were babies in the faith, and you move us from spiritual "milk" to spiritual "meat". Like in Hebrews 5:12-14, you taught us over and over again, and train us on solid food, so we can distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law. Thank you for giving to the Lord, we are lives that were changed through both of you. God's blessing Kenneth and Shirley Creamer
Pastor Cliff & Mary, We have so many precious memories I am not sure where to begin. I remember way back to the time we auctioned off meals and you made sure that your meal covered a family the size of ours. God only knew how much we needed you in our lives and the relationship that would grow from that time on. You have probably shook your heads and said, “why God, why us? We have memories of all the times that our kids were together from youth events, to just because events, they enjoyed being with each other. We cherish the memories of all of us traveling to the lake cabin and having the transmission go out of the van in Bismarck. I especially liked how the teens encouraged one another when learning how to water ski. Remember the Sunday morning that it was so icy that we were the only ones to show up for church and we went to your home for dinner. What a wonderful opportunity it turned out to be.
Then we have the lake cabins and two-holer. What can a person say about those God-given moments. We are so blessed that we could be a part of that and enjoy the serenity, the lake, the camera going overboard, the moonlight, the slow boat tours, your company, your family, need I say more. We are so grateful for the solid faith that you have shown us and have challenged us to walk in. I cannot count the many times you have covered us in prayer and how God has worked through your obedience and faithfulness. I am not sure there are words to express our gratitude for the two of you. We are blessed to call you our Pastors and Friends, We love you and cherish you, Dell & Shari Jacobson | Gratitude
One of the funniest memories we have is of the time in winter 2011 when you and Mary visited our group. We were playing a game and talking and the conversation turned to what, Chance, does when greeting people. I responded, "shes a very good hunter." It took me a little while to figure out why people were laughing! I guess you had to be there to really appreciate the moment. Remember? Ha!!! With Love and Laughter Ron and Karen Padgett ,
Pastor Cliff, The most outstanding sermon that was made and put a firm hold on me, was to find our trysting place with Jesus. Your sermons always have a sincere meaning. I want to thank you for making the church an open bible. Tudy Rudebusch
Pastor Cliff and Mary, We appreciate the two of you and for all that you have done for us and our family. Thank you for taking time, for your prayers, helping us through our difficult times in life. Thank you for time spent in discipling us and helping us understand our God's love for us and his promises for us. You have made all the difference in our lives. Thanks for being willing vessels for the Lord. Love in Christ Chuck & Debbie Dammann
Thank you Pastor Cliff & Mary for every thing you do, your support, love, encouragement, your direction, leadership, and the example you show. We love our church family. Jackie Schaefer
Dear Pastor Cliff and Mary, I know I have told you this before, but you have truly been like my parents this past year or two. There's never a time when I'm with you that I feel like I don't belong. You have guided, trained, & walked with me step-by-step on my journey with Christ. Your patience, care, love, & concern mean more to me than words can say. It is godly people like you that have shown me the love of Christ and have kept me coming back for more. I am forever grateful to you and cannot thank God enough for putting you in my life. I love you. Your daughter, Savanna Schneider
Often while preparing a worship list for Sunday, I would be amazed how the Holy Spirit would coordinate the songs and the points of Pastor Cliffs' sermon. We were blessed to be able to serve with Pastor Cliff and Mary and to learn freedom in the flow of the Holy Spirit. Mark Vance
I have had the awesome privilege of working with Mary Sheldon for several years on the Women’s Ministries committee. She is a woman of integrity, organization, and compassion. She is a source of inspiration and has been such a blessing to many women. I enjoy being in worship services that she leads and also observing her worship.
Pastor Cliff and Mary have been such cordial hosts to us. We have stayed in their home several times and they have allowed us to love on the church there in Watertown. It has been wonderful to be able to have this open relationship. We count it a blessing to be not only their peer, but also their friends. Rachel Schaible
Open up your hearts... homes... car doors... church doors...
Thank you for the trips to Indiana and St. Paul during our times of trial and testing. They will forever be greatly appreciated!!!! With love & thanks Ron & Karen Padgett | Dear Pastor and Mary, Thank you for all you've done at our church. Pastor, Thank you for being my Sunday school teacher. It impacted my life more than you think. Love Cammi Kjetland
Thanks for being constantly constant (patient). Theresa and I love you and respect you. We may not always agree on every issue, but were always on the same team. Thanks be to God. | Mike & Theresa Riter
Pastor and Mary, My greatest appreciation is no matter what I have done, the forgiveness and the love is always there! I have found throughout the years that I can always come back when I have left and know that the welcome is there! Judy Mack | joy
What I appreciate most about you both is that you really listen to and follow God's leading. There have been so many times that God is speaking to me about something either personal or regarding the church and either Pastor or Mary voice the same thing. I love it! But... Pastor, I don't think I'll trust your book recommendation on missionaries ever again!!! Mary, you really helped me when I was having problems in my marriage. I wasn't even planning on talking to you about it, but you knew something was wrong.
After I poured it all out - you gave me strong advice and my eyes were opened to what was going on. I know that sounds corny - but that's exactly how it was...I once was blind but then I saw! Our marriage has never been the same. Thank You! I appreciate and love you! I am praying for you! Linda Hoaas
Pastor Cliff & Mary, Thank you for serving our church for the last 12 years and thank you for touching many lives. Thank you for counseling the hurting and lost and most of all thank you for all your prayers. Melvin & Gloria Glanzer
We are so blessed to have you as our pastors and friends. We'll always remember your love, concern, kindness, and prayers when Kim was diagnosed with cancer. We also remember all the joyous times including working on the little trailer. We love you. Curt & Sherry Miller
Pastor Cliff and Mary, you were always willing to listen and encourage me and point me in the direction to go. You were very willing to do the right thing even when things were not so good. I appreciate that. Nick Frost | Pastor Cliff and Mary, We have appreciated the time and energy you have put into our lives. Thank you for the love you have showered on us. We are so thankful for you. Steve & Jan Rudebusch
There is a difference between healing and miracles. Healing is the restoration of diseased tissue, but a miracle is a creative action of the Spirit of God in a man's life. And the salvation of a soul is a divine miracle of God. Every time Christ speaks the word LIFE to a man's heart there is a divine creative miracle of God in him, and he is a new man in Christ Jesus. John G. Lake Thank you Pastor and Mary for being willing vessels through which the Spirit of God has flowed to bring about the miraculous.
We are thankful for the church and the Pastors that bring us the Word. My husband has gone from not wanting to go to services to being the first one ready. Thank you. Yours in Christ, Elizabeth M. Hudson
Dear Pastor Cliff & Mary: Merry Christmas-Happy New Year. God Bless you. I just had my third heart attack and came through it well, with the help from God, me and a doctor. Now I "know" I better continue saying the Jabez prayer (1chronicles 4:10) with Mary. It works. with love Stan Dockter
After being away from Assembly of God church, I just wanted to say I very much appreciate being back where I know you and your family are sensitive to the moving of the Holy Spirit and many times I don't want to leave. Also I appreciate the preaching of the Word not just tickling the ears. Carolyn Johnson
Pastor & Mary, Thank you for being a friend, for being with me many times through the years!! Pastor: it's a real privilege serving with you on the board. Mary: I love the way you lead us in worship Love Gordon Hedges | peace
Pastor Cliff and Mary have been a blessing to us in countless ways, ministering when we have needed help & uplifting. Doing something to encourage when Barry had pneumonia, both prayer and a comforting meal. Being with us when we lost my Mother - myriads of other things. It sums it up to say they are always there when we need them. Plus, we get the joy of serving with them on the platform! Without Mary's prayers, support, and as I like to call it,
her feather covered sledge hammer, I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to get up there! The worship team is such an incredible blessing, on that I just may have missed out on without them. That experience encouraged me to begin playing for youth as well, which opened more doors to serve. Music & worship seem to go hand in hand and it is a privilege to give what talents we may have back to Jesus. Thank you both for everything. Barry, Shari, Sara & Rachel Kjetland
Cliff and Mary Sheldon- When you two came to Watertown to be pastors of our church, I was in a period of unbelief that any pastor could bring us together. We have had so many problems over the years it seemed impossible. But you came -- and God came, you got us turned around. God used you to get us to love God and each other, even Me. Now when I come to church I see happy people, I can see God in them, they are loving, God and each other. You and the Grace of God!!! Thank you for being here. I love you and Mary so much. Mylo Andersen
Thank you for everything, all your guidance, friendship & love. Without you we would still be lost. Love Flavio Hernandez & Crystal Summers The Lord is my power outlet, without Him I'm just a busted fuse! | patience
Dear Pastor and Mary, Thank you for all you do!! I appreciate you! Thank you so much for welcoming me into your church family and helping me grow in the Lord! Thank you for your love, support, and encouragement. Seeing you two and the church and the love and passion you all have for the Lord made me want to seek God more and I am so thankful for that! God Bless You! Kristin Jenson | kindness
Thank you so much for coming to the hospital in Sioux Falls when I had my first surgery after my diagnosis. Your presence there was so special for me and the prayers that we shared were so powerful. Your help after words in helping me to get to treatments and appointments was so appreciated. You are amazing and truly wonderful people and we are all extremely blessed to have you in our lives. Thank you! Kimberly Johnson
Dear Pastor and Mary, thank you for being my Pastors. Cheri Kjetland | Dear Pastor and Mary, I appreciate you guys pastoring our church for over 12 years. I am so thankful that you are our pastors and I basically consider you guys as family. Love Audra Kjetland | goodness
Mary and Pastor Cliff, Thank you both for all you do for all of us. The Lord led me to come to this church when there was no pastor, but shortly after, you came to be our Pastors. I am so happy to be a part of our church and feel so blessed to hear your teachings. I am so blessed! I will continue to pray for you and thank God for both of you. I love you both! God Bless! Kim Maag
Dear Pastor and Mary, I have appreciated you guys being pastors here for the last 12 years. You are great spiritual leaders and have shown me what it means to be a Man of God and Woman of God. I am so thankful that you have been a part for much of my life. You have stretched me and grown me in ways I didn't like at the time, but now I am so very thankful for. Thank you for living your lives out in a way that honors God and shows me what it means to be a follower of Christ. Love Janae Kjetland
From time to time I attend other churches and always come away disappointed because it isn't like the service at Christian Life Assembly of God. Pastor Cliff and Mary, you are a joy to my heart and I love you both. Jeff Sumner | faithfulness
Dear Pastor & Mary, I'm glad God called you to Watertown to be at our church. It was fun growing up with you guys and I can't wait to see where the next years to come, lead. I love how you always treat people like family no matter who they are, what they look like, or whatever their past. I love having you as our pastors and hope God calls you to continually stay. We all appreciate you and love you! I can't believe you've been here 12 years! You'll always be in my prayers. Love, Briel Kjetland | gentleness
Pastor and Mary, Thank you so much for all that you two do! You are truly a blessing to this church and we are so grateful that you have been here so long and invested yourself into this church. You have always been there for me and encouraged me and I am grateful for that. I feel blessed that you were able to baptize me when I was ten years old and you were there to pray with me when I received my calling for missions. It has been a privilege to have grown up under your ministry and you two will always have a special place in my heart. Love, Melissa Glanzer
WE have known you, Pastor Cliff and Mary, for almost as long as you have been at the Assembly of God church in Watertown. Penny and I and our family sometimes attended, had business dealings, and some very personal interactions with both of you. That has been the greatest thing we have appreciated about you since we have known both of you. You have always been there for us know matter the cost. I remember going through one of the greatest trials of our families life and going to Cliff’s office. He never flinched at providing the help and support we needed even though we were not part of the church. You guys were there when twice I was in the hospital and very sick. | Another time when I had surgery on my neck and you were both there for Penny and I. We are very grateful and thank God for the time Cliff and Mary invested in Penny and other members of my family. You took our daughter, an raised her as your own like a spiritual mom and dad. Some may say that it is just your job to do these things but we believe that it is the greater calling of God that compels both of you. You have consistently gone beyond the call of duty as pastors and have made yourselves as ones who stick closer than a brother. cont...
Thank you Pastor Cliff and Mary for being there for Penny and I. The example you have been over the years have made you great in the kingdom of heaven for truly the things you’ve done for us, you’ve done for Christ, for we are the children of God. Matthew 25 says, 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? ’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Cecil & Penny Martinez
Pastor & Mary, Thank you so much for all that you do. I am grateful that you have been my Pastors for all these years. You are truly a blessing to me and to everyone in this church. You both will always hold a special place in my heart. Love, Stacey Glanzer | self-control
Dear Pastor & Mary, Thirteen years ago you stopped at C.L.A.G. on the way to Mpls. and our church has been blessed, changed, blessed and changed more because of it. The Lord used you to bring healing & restoration to a broken and hurting body and to raise it up to the place it is today and ready to receive an abundant harvest. The Lord truly has used you to make a huge impact on me, my family and the body of Christ at C.L.A.G. and beyond. Thank you for your obedience to prayer, holiness, God's Word and speaking the truth. Thank you for living lives that truly are a standard for your "sheep" that honors God immensely. I am blessed to call you my Pastors and friends. I know I'm loved because I've been teased plenty and thanks for pointing out - in the middle of a great sermon - that I lost three lbs. I always smile when I think of that. I do thank God when I think of both of you. You are very precious to Him and me. I love you both! Jo Kjetland P.S. Looking forward to the fulfillment of Isaiah 35!
Pastor & Mary, Beautiful people of God do wonderful things. There would be so much to say & I would fill so many pages with all of my thoughts, you would not get done reading them. You definitely know the calling of the Lord & and what he wants to perfect in you. I know many of the challenges you have faced & God put his prayer warriors to work. Pastor, what God has put in your heart, you are not afraid to bring to his people. You are not timid to tell what the Word wants you to portray. Along with this I need to reveal a healing to you. Some time ago you placed a gentleman on the platform. Your encouragement to him did not go unnoticed. When that individual fails, it is not because he did not receive the hope you tried to give but it is the hope he did not except.
God seen the desire of your heart and knows that you did a Good Work through him. When we as God's people do His work through Christ there is always a healing. We may not see it at the time but rest assured there is a healing. Many, many healings in so many areas have been achieved because you refused to give up. Your hearts hurt so often and you kept and continue to keep going. For a very long time in my life and my families I have known the way of the Cross, God's grace and all his Mercies yet one never stops growing. We exceed only through his love. Worship is so anointed, Mary, because you choose not to be altered by any fears you might have. You step out in a strong blessed spirit & you let God lead, which so many fail to do. You truly are an example. We are so Blessed to have you as our leaders and much love is yours from our family. Thank you for your many acts of kindness and words of encouragement. In God's love, Jeri Warne
Justin and I appreciated the time they had us over for dinner to their house. It was shortly after we moved here. Justin had left his position at Terex Utilities and we were trying to figure out where to go from there. It was very kind of them to open their home to us and reach out to us. Marcy & Justin Klitzke
Hosea 10:12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
Memories, memories How can I choose only one? When God has used you both To undo what I have done... I could no sooner choose A star in the dark blue sky, You have laughed when I laugh And held me when I cried... From the time we first met To the times of the deepest pain You have listened to my heart And sheltered me from my emotional rain... You have given me true instruction To many things opened my eyes God has used your wisdom To help me break through some ties... I'm glad to know you both Better that I can trust your hearts I thank God for your guidance Right from the very start... How often can I speak candidly About the way I feel And know you will answer That I “need an even keel”...
I love that God saw me Even before He placed me here He knew that you would be there To help me through my fears... Memories, you say, I must pick one But how can I choose so easily I can never find enough words in the world You both mean so much to me! Pastor Cliff and Mary, I didn't understand why my contact in Minnesota disappeared or how God moved to bring me here. I didn't know what God's plans were when He opened the doors to move into my heart. You both have a way of ministry, with well spoken words and a “feather covered hammer” and even though discipline hurts, I know it is meant to help me grow. Thank you both SO much for all you've done for this church and for me! I love you both! Anna Garza | growing
To Pastor & Mary ~ Serving in ministry with you is such a special memory for us. It is one of the moments in time that defines who you are. Your friendship has been a blessing of unmeasurable worth. We are thankful for the impact you had on us but even more thankful for the lives you touch everyday. May you always know the love of God in your lives & ministry. Your forever friends Gordy & Ranae Hedges
Pastor Cliff and Mary, Just wanted to say thank you for all of the prayers and support that you have given to me and my family. To know that there is someone praying for me is so comforting. Thank you for all you have both done over the years. Sincerely, Mary El Karmassi & Luke McWhorter
"Pastor Cliff and Mary, Thank you for always being there for me. You are always there when I need someone to talk to. You both mean so much to me! I hope you know how much I appreciate you. Thank you so much for everything you do! Thank you so much! You are like parents to me." Love, Brooke Schaefer | trust
Pastor Cliff and Mary, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing God to use you. I am so thankful that you allowed God to use you to do great things. I will never forget the day Angie and I were in our car accident and it seemed that everything in our lives was falling apart, we lost the baby, we were both beat up and the last time I had prayed that day I told God that he was either going to show me that he loved me through all of this tragedy that had happened or I was going to walk away. And then you and Mary walked through the door. I will never forget that moment as long as I live. Wow...God is awesome. Angie and I love you very much, you are so important in our lives. God bless you and your ministry and family. Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Harold R. McAlindon Joe and Angie Story
Pastor Cliff and Mary, Starting out, a friendship on 12 plus years, you wonder where the time has gone... Twelve years ago I can remember the first call- as pastoral candidate from Lead, S.D... 45 minute on the phone with Cliff and coming back to the committee saying you need to visit with this man. That leads to remembering the first visit to the church and wondering why would you want to come here. Cliff's response was "I don't, only if the Lord sends me." Then the move into the church parsonage. What a DAY! My appreciation goes further with the help and support Pastor Cliff has given me starting the Royal Rangers Ministry and now in the eleventh year.
Sharing moments together like the trip to Lower Brule where the sheet rock fell on Cliff or the time we were able to visit the cabin in N.D. (June Berry pie) or the Harvest Fest at the ranch were the whole church enjoyed fellowship...Cliff it seems like your ALWAYS there when I needed help...just being part of the family. Pam and I share sincere appreciation for you Pastor and Mary for your hard work, not only for us but to the church family. Through hardships (Josh and Ray) and good times (Heidi and the wedding). Cliff and Mary, this is not easy to put into words the Love we have for you. May the Lord continue to Bless you and your family, in Jesus name... Wayne and Pam Langenfeld
Pastor and Mary, Thank you for the time you spent in leading the church in Watertown. Even though it’s no longer my primary church home, it’s a blessing being part of the extended CLAG church family. I don’t know if I’ve told you how good it feels to walk in to church and feel like you missed me and are happy to see me. It’s something that I look forward to every time I come home to visit. I truly appreciate the time and love that you’ve shared with me and my family. The words “Thank You” don’t adequately express my appreciation for all you did for me during my teenage years. You were people I could turn to for advice or a listening ear when I didn’t want to talk to my parents. In many ways, you were like another set of parents to me and I have many wonderful memories of time spent with you and your family. I guess I could write a lot about the Scrabble games with Mary, learning to ski up at the cabin, or marathon Mario Kart games. And who could forget watching Napoleon Dynamite? (I think some of us would love to forget the movie itself, but the shared time was fun.) In any case, all of these experiences have something in common- you chose to invest time in me and treated me like family, which really helped me through a rough time in my life. I find that it’s hard to be depressed when you have people who love you, even when that’s about like trying to hug a hedgehog. I’m not so prickly anymore, though.
Not only did you set an example of how wonderful a church family can be, you also helped give me a firm foundation so that when I went to college, it could withstand the testing and challenging it endured. While I’m still learning so much, you gave me enough knowledge to know which churches to stay away from and which church I needed to be in after I left Florence. Given that so many college students walk away from God because they don’t have that kind of foundation, I’m extremely grateful for the groundwork you helped build. I know that the job you have is difficult and often thankless. I’ll admit that I’m a little embarrassed that it took my mom telling me about this project for me to take the time to do this, but better late than never, right? So, with all of my heart, THANK YOU for everything that you have done in my life. Thank you for giving me a church home for my teenage years and a church family that I love to come and visit. Thank you for helping to heal hurts that you didn’t cause and maybe didn’t always know about. Thank you for your wisdom and guidance. Thank you for listening to God’s call and coming to Watertown. 77: Pastor Cliff and Mary, We want to thank you for everything you have done for our family. You have made us feel welcome to the church right from the beginning. Your visit with Emma when she was in the hospital in Minneapolis was going above and beyond your duty as a pastor and we are grateful. You both have such a servants heart and reflect a love for the Lord. The church, as well as our family, are so blessed to have you in our lives. To us, you are so much more than a pastor and pastor's wife, you are our friend. May God Bless you! Thank you again, Eric, April, Austin, Emma, Avery and Edyn
Where does a person start. They have always been here for us, but what came to mind immediately for me was how they were here for us when John had his accident, first with them dropping everything and driving me to Sioux Falls and staying the day with me and returning to see John every chance they had. Their support, prayers and love will NEVER be forgotten. They are such a blessing to us in our lives, they are always there for you when you need them. We love and appreciate them soooo much!! 80: Oh what joy we feel when we think of Cliff & Mary! We thank the Lord for His divine goodness in allowing our paths to cross those few years ago. We look back on our “Tioga Days” with such fond and cherished memories. Isn’t it amazing how in His sovereignty He brought all of us together “for such a time as that!” We rejoice in all that the Lord accomplished during that precious time. Cliff and Mary, you were such an integral part of the success with the ministry in Tioga. You were not only such amazing Board Members, you became our partners in ministry and we are eternally grateful. You displayed so many Godly characteristics that blessed our lives and the ministry: You were Friends. Thank you for the gift of friendship. The coffee pot was always on! How we enjoyed our countless visits together. Thank you for being our partners in ministry. What a joy for us to watch you grow in the Lord, to see you graduate from Bible School and then to be blessed to have you come and minister in Tioga with us! What a gift to the church and to our lives!
You were Fun! Do you remember our first church picnic? Of course we had to do it right and have horses there! Oh we wish we had Cliff and John’s ride on video!! There was a boat ride on the river that proved to be a little exciting also! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us and the church. Those 4th of July celebrations were a blast! (In more ways than one!) You were Faithful. There was not a service that you did not show up for. There was not a work project that you ever missed. We do recall a time when a certain youth pastor was sleeping on the day of a big community car wash...and Cliff, you taught him how to show up for events! Mary, the swishes of a paint brush are recorded in Heaven. I just know they are! The tender loving care that you gave to the church and the parsonages were such a reflection of the quality woman that you are! Thank you for your Faithfulness. cont...
You were Prayer Warriors. Cliff, what a legacy your momma left you. We will never forget how in her last hours on this earth, she grabbed our hands and prayed a priestly blessing over our lives. We know that you and Mary are passing this legacy on. Your churches have been blessed to be mentored by you in the realm of prayer. The Kingdom has eternal riches because of your prayers. Thank you for praying for us. The memories are so dear. This paper could not hold all the many wonderful times we shared. Thank you for being who you are, Real people who deeply love God and others. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Cliff & Mary, We Love You! John & Naomi Brady
And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain! So God granted him what he requested. 1Chrinicles 4:10
