2: The Freedom of Religion,Speech, and Press | Religion:The government can not force you to believe in certain a religion that you don't want to. Everyone can believe in what they want. Does the government buildings have the right to put out an nativity scene for Christmas? This is were it becomes controversial. | 1
3: The Freedom of Speech is really your Freedom of thought. No one can tell you what to think. You have the right to have your own thought and you cant tell lies.The Freedom of Speech is not just words its also actions, boycotts, sit-ins, symbols. Also you can express yourself in art and music. | The Freedom of press is that you can express your opinions, beliefs and thoughts through writing, music artwork, and fashion. People can express their viewpoints in books, newspapers, websites, etc. In the past, people have tried censoring books and music but it has not held up in the Supreme Court. Parents are the only people who can censor what their children read.
4: The Right to Bear Arms | The second Amendment is the right to bear Arms. This amendment allows all people to own guns (not just the police or military). However, the gun laws are different in each state. In some states you can carry a gun in public and in others you can't. Laws are different from state to state. | 2
6: The Forgotten " Amendment" | The forgotten amendment says that a solider can not live in your house. The owners have the right to say yes or no. | 3
7: It is known as the forgotten amendment because we have not had any big wars in a long time in the USA. Today, the military takes care of and houses their soldiers.
8: Searches and Seizures | The fourth amendment is about searchers and seizures. The police can not search your private property or you without a search warrant from a judge. To get a search warrant the police need probable cause. | 4
9: In school, teachers can search you, your locker, or your belongings without a search warrant. All they need is a reasonable grounds. This is because the courts say that the school is acting in place the parents and are trying to keep kids safe.
10: Amendment fifth Protecting the Innocent | The Fifth Amendment is about the right to stay silent and not testify against yourself. The Miranda Rights were started because of the Fifth Amendment. Also the police have to charge you with a specific crime. Another part of fifth Amendment is that government cant take your property without paying a fair price. If the government wanted to put a road through my property they would have to pay a fair price. They just cant take it for free. | 5
12: Speedy and Public Trial | The Sixth Amendment is about they right to a fair trial. This means you have the right to a fast public trial in criminal cases. When you are accused of the crime you have to be told the charges that are against you. All people have the right to a lawyer. In America you cant sit in jail for ten years before you get a trial. | 6
14: 7 | The Right to a Jury Trial | This amendment is about noncriminal, or civil cases. A civil case is about two people having an argument about money. This amendment gives people a right to a jury in civil cases when the dollar amount is over $10,000. You have to be 18 to serve on a jury. When you turn 18 and the court calls you to serve on a jury you have to do it. If you don't serve you could get fine.
16: 8 | The Eighth Amendment | The Eighth Amendment protects people from Cruel and Unusual punishments. Also the Eighth Amendment protects us from unreasonable fines and bail. In America you can not be tortured for a crime. You can not have our arms cut off for stealing. Also, you can not be fined $50,000 for speeding.
18: 9 | Protect Peoples Rights | The Ninth Amendment gives people other rights that are not listed in any other amendments. The ninth amendment helped people feel safe in case they would need more rights in years to come. People have the right to Privacy because of this Amendment. If someone calls the school and asks if you are there or is doing well in school. The teachers can not tell them anything about you. They only ones they can tell it to is your parents.
20: 10 | Power to the States | This Amendment is about letting the states and cites make there own laws, so that the federal government does not have all the power. For example the states have different gun laws. They decide what works for their state.
