In the early morning hours of Thursday, September 17, 2009, your mother (me) secretly took a pregnancy test and found out that your Dad and I were going to be parents. The pregnancy test turned positive immediately and I screamed "James!" and he knew that our dreams had come true. I hugged, cried and shook with happiness as we celebrated the good news. I did not truly believe it until I went to Dr. De Wet's office where the lab confirmed indeed I was pregnant.! | Oh Happy Day! (right - August 19th, 2009 - 3rd Wedding Anniversary) | Positive!! +!!!!

On November 16, 2010, your dad came along with me for my first prenatal appointment. Our family doctor, Dr. De Wet, did not deliver babies so he referred us to Dr. Saba, an OB/GYN. At the appointment she figured I was about 13 weeks pregnant and that my due date was May 23, 2010. She could not find your heart beat and sent me across the street for an emergency ultrasound. Within an hour, we heard your little heart beating so quickly. Everything was fine. According to the ultrasound, your due date was May 19, 2010 but Dr. Saba did not change it because the two dates were so close together. | May 23, 2010 | 13 weeks

25 weeks | 34 weeks | Grandma Giesbrecht came along and saw your final ultrasound, chubby cheeks and all.

I decided to decorate your nursery with a BIRD and TREE theme. I chose turquoise, green, orange and brown as the colors. | Grandma G helped me sew many things for your nursery

Throughout my pregnancy, I never experienced serious morning sickness. I had no unusual cravings just a lot of heart burn towards the end. My skin glowed and I had no more headaches. I really enjoyed being pregnant. | No stretch marks until the very last couple of weeks:( | BOY or GIRL???? I had a feeling you were a boy throughout the pregnancy.

 IT'S A BOY! I | May 19, 2010 | 10:22am | 21 inches | 7 lbs 6 ozs | jAh | Brandon Hospital

I woke up at 3:30am on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 with some stomach cramps. I had experienced these cramps in the previous weeks and was told it was practice contractions for the arrival of the baby. I could not fall back asleep so I told your dad I was going to take a bath to help relieve the cramps. Your dad came to check up on me around 5:30am. The cramps were getting worse. They seemed to be peaking at irregular intervals. The books said contractions should be at regular intervals if it is true labor. At 6:30am, we called the hospital and the nurse said, since this is my first baby, labor usually takes awhile. She recommended staying at home as long as possible, taking another bath and trying to eat something. I tried eating but nothing stayed down and I tried taking another bath but the pain got unbearable. At 7:30am, I told your dad I could not take the pain anymore and I wanted drugs now! There was no break between the contractions and your dad had to get me dressed. We arrived at the hospital around 8:30am where they wheeled me up to the maternity assessment room. The nurses still did not really believe me when I said the contractions were very intense and there was hardly a break between them. After leaving me hooked up to the machine for 10 minutes, the n | nurses returned and were astounded to find that indeed the contractions were one on top of each other. The nurse checked me and found I was all ready 8-9 cm dilated. I was shocked and so were the nurses! There was no time for any drugs so they rushed me to a delivery room and at 9:30am I started to push and at 10:22am, Dr. Saba announced IT"S A BOY! She placed you on my chest and I started to cry. Dad cut the cord. There was our precious little boy! We had decided on your name long before I was even pregnant. Your dad had always wanted a little boy name Jakob. I agreed with the rule that it had to be spelled with a 'k' just like mom's name. JAKOB AIDEN HARDER You came out looking so perfect. The nurses tried to get you to cry more to make sure you were breathing properly. The nurses let me hold you on my chest for a good 20 minutes before they took you to wrap you up. You were so alert from the moment you were born. Daddy and I fell in love with you immediately. After weighing you and washing you up a little, we called our family to surprise them with your arrival. Everyone was shocked since they were not expecting you for another couple of days!
