You Were Here. And, your Mark will remain. Cheryl Kim, DaVita Rx March 2005 - December 2010 | CK

I was Here Lyrics Artist: Lady Antebellum I will prove you wrong If you think I'm all talk, you're in for a shock Cuz this dream's too strong And before too long Maybe I'll compose symphonies, Maybe I'll fight for world peace Cuz I know it's my destiny To leave more than a trace of myself in this place I wanna do something that matters Say something different Something that sets the whole world on its ear I wanna do something better With the time I've been given And I wanna try To touch a few hearts in this life Leave nothing less Than something that says “I was here” And I know that I will do more than just pass through this life I'll leave nothing less than something that says “I was here” | CK | CK

CK, Wow. I can't believe the time has come to say so-long. I always knew the day would come, but find it hard to put to words how glad I am to have you come into my life. I have so much to say thank you for - for looking out for me and believing in me. For being a mentor, a colleague, and most importantly - a great friend (and matchmaker!). Over the past 5 years, there have been so many memories - with you, Keith, and your family. I admire your ability to have so many strong relationships in your life. We've hung in there together, through good times and bad. Long after this journey ends, I will always remember what you brought DaVita Rx, and what we were able to create together. I watched you change so much in 5 years, and you've watched me grow up and settle down. All the memories. You've not only left your mark on DaVita Rx in a permanent way, but you've also left a very strong impression on everyone you've touched along the way. You'll be in my life forever. I can't wait to see how this next adventure will unfold for you - but I know I'll get great updates along the way! All the best, Cameron Faili

Cheryl, I want to wish you the best on your next journey, which I am sure will be a great success. You have been instrumental for the success of DaVita Rx, and thank you for allowing me to be part of that great accomplishment. It was a pleasure to work for you and I will miss you very much. Take care and keep in touch. Thank you for everything! Alice Caputo

Cheryl, Best of luck in your next endeavor! You’ve really exemplified all of the core values that DaVita Rx stands for and it will be a challenge to find someone else to fill your shoes with the same enthusiasm and intelligence. Who will bring the fun to all of our RRG meetings and events? I will miss exploring new cooking classes with you during RRG! I hope your new adventure will bring you continued success! Taryn D. Davis | Cheryl always reminded me to smile when the stress was on! Ken Hare

Cheryl, I think it was Snoopy who said he hated good-byes and needed more hellos. I agree, especially when the goodbye is too close to the hello. We have only worked together for 3 months, but you gave me this opportunity and advice, opportunity and advice I know you were generous with everyone. I am sad to see you go. I speak for myself and ROPS when I express our collective appreciation for all you’ve done and all you don't even realize you have done. Jill Marchant | Cheryl, I’ll keep it simpleI’m going to miss you, but wish you the best of luck! Cathy Bready

Cheryl, My experience here at DaVita Rx has been so much better because you were here and because of the way you reached out to me. I've had a great experience here - and it's also often been hard. I've often felt a bit different and a bit distanced - and that's new for me. So many times, interactions we've had have left me feeling downright welcome... and warm. I've felt embraced and looked after by you. I've felt trusted, respected, and lifted up by you. I've been happier here for the hand of mentorship, friendship, and care you've shown. It's really nice - and I'm grateful for it. I am excited for you and the adventure you are about to go on. I see the way you talk about the early days at DaVita Rx and my wish for you is that you find yourself in the midst of another adventure as good - or even better than the great one you are completing now. We'll miss you very much. I'll miss you very much. And I'll be rooting for you. I hope to stay in touch. I'd love to have you as a mentor and friend for years to come. Thank you for everything and be well. Warmly, Erik Bengtsson Director of New Markets

Hi Cheryl, I want to tell you how appreciative I am to have had the opportunity to work with you. You have led this team with passion, enthusiasm and thoughtfulness, and you’ve done it with a smile. You have always been a rock for IT and one of my biggest supporters - You are the “friendly-face” I have looked for when I’ve had to give presentations. Fond memories: CDI; Red Rock Cheers - “and Finance”; lots of tequila shots and dancing; hitting profitability. Good luck in you new role, Cheryl – they are certainly luck to have you – and know that you will be missed. Hopefully, we’ll bump into each other in Pleasanton. Bruce Schoenweiler

Cheryl, I have been at DaVita Rx and had the pleasure to know you for only a short time, but what an awesome inspiration you are! I will personally miss you very much, and wish you all the very best in your new adventure! Cheers! Mike Tarpley Dir, DaVita Rx IT | Cheryl-- Thanks for everything! I appreciate all the time that you spent teaching me the "ways of the pharmacy." Your passion has always inspired me to do my best and to never stop learning. Best of luck with your next challenge. You will be solely missed!! --Nuetenizer (aka Jarod)

Cheryl, I have so much enjoyed working with you this past 2 years and sharing a glass (well actually several) of great red wine from time to time. I can’t tell you how much mileage have got out of sharing your story about taking your son’s door off with my friends, especially those with boys of their own. Best of luck in your new challenge How exciting! Thank you for all you have done for our Team. Please stay in touch and let me know when you find a great new wine. Art Solomon

Hi Cheryl, I am truly happy for you, in this new chapter of your life. Seems to me you have a dream opportunity to express and challenge the all of you again, one more time. “The task of the excellent teacher is to stimulate ’apparently ordinary’ people to unusual effort. The tough problem is not in identifying winners: it is in making winners out of ordinary people” - K Patricia Cross. When I saw this, I right away thought of you. It is the fancy way of my “Cheryl always brings the best out of me”. I am grateful for all that I have learned and have become because of you and from you. Thank you for all your support and help personally and professionally. Thank you for your friendship and I wish you the best. Eleanor Falcon

Cheryl, Thank you so much for all that you have done for me. You are a great inspiration, leader and role model. Though we did not work very long together, you left an imprint that will never fade. I wish you the best in your new role – back to Accounting roots. I hope that you can do for your new company what you have done for Rx – you practically single handily built this place and it has flourished into one special company. You will be greatly missed. Keep in touch. Kami Salopek Accounting Manager

Cheryl; I cannot begin to tell you what a special person you are and the impact you have had on my life. From the day we first met, I knew that even though I have a brother who is my identical twin, that indeed I had found my ‘work twin’. While that may sound cliché it is not, as twins share a special bond that lasts through life. You know that your ‘twin’ is a best friend, a bond that cannot be broken. Also your ‘twin’ always has your back. To that end you were the person who was so instrumental in opening my eyes to the obvious; the opportunities that existed in our mission; and specifically in me. While we have strong and at time divergent opinions at times; it is the intersection of our overlap that has taught me how special and strong our relationship is; and will continue to be. We have been given the gift of each other; and that in the end is truly magical. I will miss our evening calls to check in; and even the unique and special meaning of an occasional dropped call as you reached the bridge in your commute home. Know that you will continue to grow as you move into your next role, and I wish you all the best. I am looking forward to hearing all about your new opportunities and learnings; so today just know that I will always have your back. Thank you for all that you have done to help me become a better person, parent, husband and colleague. No worries; all the best Love Len Len Schiavone Vice President of Operations

Cheryl, Thank you for being so welcoming over the past 8 months. You have truly been a great mentor and guide. I know that this is something that you have to do and that it is in your sweet spot, but we will miss you more than you know. You should be proud of the organization that you have created. We will be sure to protect your legacy. Please keep in touch. Best of Luck! Greg Jungles Chief Information Officer

CK – DaVita Rx would not be where it is today without your dedication and commitment to the business. While I know your personal sacrifice has been tremendous you have helped us create something truly special. Thanks for the memories, the wine and most of all ‘making finance fun’! I’ll miss you and wish you all the best in your new adventure! Alexandra Wales Regional Services Director

Cheryl, It is not often in my finance career to find someone with the similar business philosophyand with similar taste in food, wine, and other finer things life has to offer. It is very difficult to see you leave, but I am happy to see you happy with opening a new chapter in your career. Good luck with your new endeavor and stay in touch! Hu Li Director of Finance | CK, Thanks for all you have done for our Village. Your passion for life is inspiring. Best in all you do! Andy Helfan Director of Business Development

CK, Buying a handbag will never be the same without YOU!! Doggone it Neither will DaVita Rx! Wishing you all the BEST and lot’s of SUCCESS !!! Zondra Evans

Dear Cheryl, I have included a picture of my daughter, because we spent so much time talking about our kids and sharing our sadness when they left for college! We both wanted them to grow up, but wanted things to stay the same with our family too (sob!). It was been wonderful sharing family stories with you. You have felt like a huge part of our business family too. I was so happy that you got to come to our regional meeting this year. There is no one that can explain finance and makes it sound so much fun! It was a real treat having you work with us in our community service activity and join our meeting. The PSRs all got to know you a little bit better just as I do and they were better for it! You will be missed – your big smile, your enthusiasm, your wisdom. I am very sorry to see you go, but happy for your new adventure. Kim Easlon West Regional Director

Cheryl – The best part of the whole thing is that I got a good friend out of this. Thank you so much for being that for me, for challenging me in your gentle way, for believing in me, confiding in me, trusting me. You will be sorely missed and your contributions will live long after you. I know you are proud of what you have built – you should be. See you soonest. Ken Kelly Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Cheryl , It has been a pleasure working with you, although it was not long I learned a lot from you. I wish you the best of luck in your new adventure!! Ronnie Eaton Enrollment Manager

Cheryl- What I'm going to miss the most about you is our break room "girl talk" conversation about Gods know what. You have always been there for me in anything that I have needed. Going to miss your strong women influence and your kindness. I wish you the very best in your new adventure and don't be a stranger. LOVE always, Michelle Price

CK – I’m not exactly sure where to start with this letter, so I guess I’ll start by saying thank you. Thank you for what you’ve given to DaVita Rx, thank you for always looking out for the patients and for often sacrificing your own personal life for the benefit of the business, thank you for all that you’ve taught me both intentionally and through your example. In short, thank you for being you. I remember when I first met you at DaVita Rx, and I thought “wow – this lady is impressive!” You have so much passion, energy, intelligence and talent that it is amazing it is all wrapped up into one person. You have stretched me in ways you probably don’t even realize – causing me to want to be a better person and business woman than I would have been otherwise. I’ve always looked up to you as someone who is honest, direct and focused on making the world a better place. You are a true mentor. I’m so grateful for your presence in my life. From the talks about women in leadership to running marathons to wine to having children, you’ve always been someone I felt like I had a lot in common with and could talk to about many things. I will really miss that connection with another strong female leader here at DaVita Rx! Your spirit will live on forever at DaVita Rx and with me personally. I hope we stay in touch, but even if we lose touch over the years please know that you have left a permanent impression on my life, and I am eternally grateful to you for that. I know that you are going to a great place, and that you will bring so much value to that team. They honestly have no idea how lucky they are to have you. I wish you the best of luck in your new adventure. I couldn’t think of anyone else better to make this world a greener place for the generations to come! CK, I think you can confidently say you’ve done all of those things already. You’ve certainly touched my heart, have built a business that matters and will always “be here” at DaVita Rx!!! Much Love, Kim Martinez (aka Kmart) Director of Business Development

Cheryl, I have known you from the early days as a new comer at the Burlingame office and I am amazed by the energy level and commitment that you have demonstrated year over year. Needless to say you were our only fun loving & lively team member in CDI office. It has been a pleasure working with you and I would like to thank you for the support you have provided. Wishing you the very best for your future endeavors. Rohit Rao

Cheryl, I will not say good bye because I know we will be lifelong friends. How else would we get through high school, driving, college and parenting these boys? Thank you for all the opportunities you have given me. It has been one heck of a ride! Best of luck to you as you start your new adventure. We will miss you at DaVita Rx, but will continue to keep all that you have started here going strong! Take care and we will catch up soon, Laura and Family Laura Brinkerhoff | Cheryl, I will never forget my first meeting with Cheryl. In my mind, I thought that finance people were all quiet, staid souls concerned with numbers with little social skills. That all disappeared when we started talking. She was bright, enthusiastic and full of life. It was a little strange that she loved data so much, but that just endeared her to me the more we interacted. I will miss Cheryl a lot and I wish her the best. Love, Dennis Dennis Esaki

Cheryl, You have no idea how shocked I was to hear the news, but have accepted it by now. I haven't had enuff time to enjoy your presence to the ultimate but must be satisfied with what I've gotten. You are so funny and just plain ole FUN to be around. I just love your charisma and charm. You are definitely a SHINING STAR in my book. You are definitely a type "A" personality but a very nice one. You lead, accomplish, GSD, participate, care, try to always help, and shine everywhere you go. I've had the pleasure of your company at Ash's wedding and party and at our poker/buncko evening. Lots of fun. You are a crackup and I love it. You can definitely be a wonderful partner in crime. I will always remember the good times that I've had the extreme pleasure of sharing with you and the girls here at Davita. We will all miss you terribly but hope to see you at times. Please keep in contact. It goes without saying that you will twinkle and shine wherever you go.Hope you enjoy your new and exciting future. Love, Connie Fong

Cheryl, Thank you for always pushing me to be my best. I have learned so much, professionally and personally, from you. “You” were here – Next time “we” are here, round of Johnny Walker Blue on me! =) Jason Lee Finance Manager | Cheryl, I’m so happy that you’ve found another exciting challenge in your life. I’m sure you’ll tackle it with the same vibrant determination and commitment you’ve shown while being a leader here at Rx. I also want to thank you, for helping to build a foundation on which we’ll continue to succeed upon, for contributing to the birth of our evolving vibrant culture, and for the motivation you’ve instilled in both myself and others to drive for success.. I’ll be raising my wine glass to you this season, betting on your success! My very best wishes to you and your family, Rick Hagan

Cheryl, I don't don't even know where to start. It has been a great 5 1/2 years together. We have A LOT of great memories, like when you would sit next me to at old Maverick and manually enter all the patient's co-pays. When we would run the patient's credit card, but we did not give you the strip label. You would always yell "Who ran this credit card? Where is the strip label?" You have been like a second mom to me. Whenever I had a problem you were always there to listen. I have learned a lot from you and I'm REALLY going to miss you. Maverick and DaVita Rx is not going to be the same without you. I wish you nothing but the best in your new adventures. We only live 3 miles apart and we better get together for dinner. Love you, Ashley Bygdnes PhT Special Projects

Cheryl, Although our paths have only crossed for a short time, it’s been a privilege and a pleasure knowing you. Your energy, intelligence and fun will be missed very much. Best wishes and please stay in touch. Chi Nguyen Director of Marketing | Cheryl, It was great working with you over the last couple of years. I have always impressed with you passion for the potential of Rx and what it can offer to patients and the compassion you have shown for the dialysis patients. Good luck in your new endeavors. You will be greatly missed by the village. Thanks. Mike Ell Director-Corp Accounting

Cheryl- When I sat down and started thinking about all that you have meant to me in the past four years, I determined that this is going to be a very hard exercise but am going to give it a go! You have been so much to so many that it’s hard to think of DaVita Rx without thinking of you. You have been an inspirational leader, leading by example with your hard work and commitment to our teammates, patients, and village as a whole. You have been responsible for so many of the processes and so much of the culture that defines who we are as a company today. You have been the person who has believed in me the most, encouraged me the most, and pushed me the hardest in my time here. I would not be where I am today without your teaching, leadership and guidance. Most importantly to me though, you have been a friend. I will miss chatting with you about the great fashion finds at Nordstrom, discussing the latest beauty trends, or just talking about life together. I am sure that we will keep in touch, but know that your presence here in our day to day operations will be something I miss greatly. Because of who you are, I know you will excel at anything you set out to do, so I can only expect greatness in your next endeavor and feel just a bit of envy towards all of your new colleagues as they get to work with and learn from one of the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and amazing women I’ve had the great pleasure of knowing. Anna Berek

Cheryl, You will be greatly missed. The support that you have given me from day one and continuously throughout will never be forgotten. You should really be proud of the contributions you have made here at Rx. Red Rock will not be same without you this year. I wish you the best and know that you will be ever so successful in your next assignment. With much gratitude and all my best, Lynne Braggs Marketing Manager

Cheryl, It was great working with you over the last couple of years. I have always impressed with you passion for the potential of Rx and what it can offer to patients and the compassion you have shown for the dialysis patients. Good luck in your new endeavors. You will be greatly missed by the village. Thanks. Mike Mike Ell Director-Corp Accounting

Cheryl, Thank you for your support over the years. Numbers aren’t my thing but somehow you made finance fun and interesting (kinda). It must be that Hawkeye charm. The Red Rock meetings aren’t going to be the same without you, for example my head will probably hurt less in the morning. Who is going to supply my wine fix and make those daring rooftop rescues? All kidding aside (or not), I hope that I can someday emulate your leadership style, sans the uncomfortable shoes. You were focused and driven yet personable and approachable (note to Josh). Thanks for being a leader, an inspiration, and a friend, but mostly for laughing at my stupid jokes (it was the jokes, right?) You will be missed! Randy Ferreter Pharmacy Manager

Cheryl, Wow. I can still remember those early days getting to know you—meeting you and Keith and that restaurant in Berkeley, sharing that god awful office space in Burlingame, being the “yes man,” freaking out about how to communicate our budgets to DaVita, and all those crazy/stressful days trying to get this germ of an idea off the ground and turn it into something special. It was exhausting, tiring, stressful, humbling and the best days of my career by a long shot. I remember hearing that Lady Antebellum song the first time and both being moved and thinking how much it reminded me of you (the idea of putting your whole self into something and truly making a difference). I hope after all the goodbyes and reading all these pages, that truth will be abundantly clear—that through the tremendous personal sacrifices you made over the past six years, you made a remarkable impact. And while it is no exaggeration to say that DaVita Rx the business would not exist today if you had not been here the past six years (and you should be extremely proud of that), this is not what I mean. You have touched so many lives. You have made so many people better at what they do, feel prouder about what they do, and feel connected to what they do. I can say that without a doubt not only because I’ve seen it others, but I’ve felt it myself. You have made me a better manager, a better leader, and a better person. As life and work continued to get more complex and stressful, you helped me remember who I am and what I want to stand for. You were never afraid to hold me to the high standards you believed I should have for myself. While there were times over the past few years our relationship was hard and painful, I would not change an ounce of it. I believe the growth and change is difficult, and you have helped me grow and change in many positive ways. I am so excited to hear about your future journeys—not only the amazing job I’m sure you will do at SunRun, but also with your family, your friends and your other passions. While I’m sad to lose you, I feel like we’ve been holding on to this precious commodity of Cheryl Kim and that it’s only fair for us to share you with the rest of the world. You will always be family here and you will always be my friend. Much love. Josh

Dear Cheryl, I wanted to thank you for the opportunity for helping bring me to DaVita Rx. I still remember the room at home where we were talking on the phone when I interviewed with you for almost 1.5 hours. Your passion for the business was very evident and you grilled me with many questions (I could tell you were looking for the analytical fit, leadership fit, and definitely the cultural fit). It was a no nonsense interview! The core value that stood out the most to me during the interview process was accountability. I had a big transition in moving from Chicago to Dallas (never lived anywhere else, except the typical consultant travel) and you made me feel very, very welcome. My 1st day was at a Red Rock meeting and it was because you wanted me to start at Red Rock if possible. I didn’t understand why it was so important to be there as my 1st day, but looking back, it was the best possible way for me to start, in being able to interact with the other leaders at DaVita Rx. That 1st day, has really helped me foundationally, from a work relationship standpoint and I hopefully can continue to build on the work relationships I have developed thus far (I have a long way to go!) Your passion about hiring top talent also really got me geeked, because I love hiring smart people! Hiring smart and dedicated people, goes such a long way in building a great organization, and I know you really believe that, still believe that, and model those values. Allowing me to get involved in that process, meant a lot to me, because I am passionate about building great teams (not just good.GREAT teams). I wish we had a chance to get to know each other more Cheryl, but I am thankful I had an opportunity to work with you, your teams, and be challenged to grow. Thank you for a great opportunity here at DaVita Rx and I am looking forward to more great opportunities at DaVita Rx to come. All the best Cheryl and I will miss you! Take care, Robby Abraham
