Early on, there were many civilization we now know as the ancient river valley civilizations. These were obviously located near rivers, for various reasons. One is it was a good water source. Another it was good for trade because it provided a quick means of travel. Many of these civilizations left behind things such as plumbing and hammurabis code. | Civilization: Technologically and socially advanced city. Trade: Bartering for goods or services
If Hammurabi had not written his codes the world would have been in chaos. It might take a few years later for someone to create a set of laws. Then the world would become peaceful. Maybe those set of laws wouldn't be so harsh and brutal. Hammurabi probably made the laws so ruthless because then people would stop commiting crime. So whoever made the new set of laws will soon know that they need to be more harsh. The new set of laws would probably be made by a chinese govenor in 1800 B.C. So the world wouldn't fall into chaos completely because their would be one person who would make some laws so the world could become peaceful. | What If?
Classical Greece/Rome was a time of heroes, war, peace and empires. It was also an introduction and model for many things we had today. Athens Introduced a form of government called democracy. It gave the people the ultimate power by giving them the right to vote for a representative. Today we use democracy that is much like what ancient Athens used. One of the major powers of this time was Rome. It had a strong army, many civilians, and a powerful leader. It eventually fell when it moved its capital and that was the end of one of the greatest empires to ever be on the earth. | Empire-Large influential civilization Democracy-Form in government in which people hold the ultimate power Athens-Large, Artistic Empire Rome-Large, Fearsome empire | Classical Greece/ Rome
If Rome had not fall it would have advance on somethings. For example they could have created ships that could reach new countries and improved trade. It could make Rome a vast and wealthy empire. With the ships they could have settled in America first instead of the Native Americans. Most of America today would have been based off of Roman things. But most things don't last long. Eventually the empire would have fallen and making the economy even worse than the Great Depression. | What If?
Asia/Africa was a lot different before modern times. There were many tribes and wars to gain more land that often lead to many deaths of civilians and the fall of entire civilizations. One of these tribes were the Mongols. They were extremely mobile and vicous and would leave entire armies beaten. Africa was often characterized for its rich soil and minerals. This adds to many of the great things we have in the world. | Tribes: Groups of people with the same similar beliefs. Mongols: Very brutal tribes of the era
If the Mongols had not opened the Silk Road ton travelers then the Mongols would have become more wealthy and trade through out Europe would have stopped. The Mongols could have used this trade route to control most of Europe and making it into one big empire. This would make Europe a culture become mostly made up of Mongol. If it was to stay like this then Europe would've become the a violent country. But when Genghis Khan dies they wouldn't know how to control the vast empire. Soon the empire would fall apart like Rome | What If?
The medieval times were rough times for europe. It was a time of kings and armies. City often fought city simply over religion. One of these wars were the crusades, when the Christians attempted to regain land from the Muslims. Another hard aspect of the time was the bubonic plague. This vicious disease killed roughly a third of europes entire population. | Crusades: Fight over the holy land of Europe. Bubonic Plague: Disease that wiped out much of medieval Europe.
If the black plague never attacked western Europe are population right now would have been doubled. Also millions of lives would have been saved. The bubonic plague started with fleas that were transported by rats. Some of the rats were following all of the Mongol's trade routes spreading it through out western Europe. For the bubonic plague to never attack western Europe might meant that the Mongols could have moved their trade route somewhere else. The black plague would have not been eliminated though because they never had the cure back then for it. The black plague could have happend in India if the Mongols moved there trade route over there. | What If?
One of the greatest times in history was the renaissance. It was an era of invention, Religion, Architecture and many other great things. An important figure of the renaissance was martin luther. He viewed the church as corrupt and wrong and did everything he could do to purify it, a daring thing to try in the church controlled age. He even left a list of things wrong with the church on the door. Another important figure of the era was Leoonardo Da Vinci. He was known for many inventions and the painting known as mona lisa which is still known today. People during this time admired humanism, the appreciation of the human race. This led people both to and from the church. Intracite designs were also used for architecture during this age. | Architecture-Designs consisting of buildings, statues, etc. Martin Luther-Priest who reformed the church Leonardo Da Vinci- Inventor of the renaissance Humanism-Appreciation of the human race | RENAISSANCE
If Gutenburg hadn't invented the printing press then they would have found another way to print. Before Gutenburg invented the printing press there were other methods of printing. One was called wood blocking printing. Wood blocking printing was when you carve a image into clay cover it in ink. Get a paper over the clay, and use a wooden cylinder to press down on the paper. Then you remove the paper of and, the image is on the paper. Sooner or later some body would have made a printing press, and use to create the bible. But lots of trees would have been saved if the printing press wasn't invented. | What If?
Many of the things we know today are what are known as the enlightenment revolutions. These brought about new ways of looking at life and humans. Another thing was the industrial revolution. It introduced mass production by factories during the pre-modern times in several countries. Although at first it had many negative aspects at first, it is now found almost everywere. | Enlightenment: People woken up by certain ideas. Industrial: Factories and objects that were powered.
If the colonist never embraced the Enlightenment then our science today wouldn't be so advance today. All of the technology that we have today wouldn't be here and there would be scientist right now trying to figure out things that we have already known. Europe would have fallen early because of the lack of knowledge they have. But then another country could have invented new things, and they could of had they're own Enlightenment in their own country. | What If?
From 1914-1918, a vicious war known as world war one rocked the world. It was a very violent period in time. World war I had two powers, The Allies consisting of Great Britain, France, Italy, and America fought the Axis which was Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman empire, and Bulgaria. WWI introduced a ruthless weopon known as mustard gas. It was often released to kill many soldiers at once. WWI also introduced trench warfare. It made conditions hard and it was very dangerous. People would often have little food and often be in mud and only have one pair of clothes. Although it was meant to provide soldiers with cover and help with the war, It didn't help much and caused more of a problem. | Allies- WWI powers including Great Britain, France, Italy, and America Axis-WWI powers including Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman empire, and Bulgaria Mustard Gas-Deadly Gas used as a weopon in WWI Trench Warfare-Method of warfare in which trenches were dug and fought in | WORLD WAR I
If Austrian heir Franz Ferdinard was not assassinated then WWI wouldn't have started so early. The war would have stilled started somehow. Because all of the nations were ready for the biggest war. The war could've started by Germany attacking United Kingdom by air raids. This may cause a the Allies to help fight back at them, and making the Axis to retaliate as well. Causing WWI to begin. Another reason that could have started WWI is that the U.S. was being paranoid about Germany attacking so they attacked them first. This could of also started WWI. | WWI What If?
World War 2 was a very memorable time in History. Many of the worlds conflicts broke out into open warfare. The Allies, Consisting of Britian, Russian, And America, fought the Axis consisting of Japan, Germany, and Italy. One of the most well known parts of WW2 was the holocaust. This was when the German Nazi Party, lead by HItler, Massacred millions of jews and other people who were not part of what they called the aryan race. Germans welcomed this policy because their economy and government was in bad shape at the time of the war. WW2 ultimately ended when Germany surrendered and we dorpped a nuclear bomb on japan leading to their surrender. After WW2, the policy of appeasement, meaning, peace over fighting, failed ultimately because some insist on fighting. | Allies: Power in WW2 consisting of America, Russia, and Britain Axis: Power in WW2 consisting of Japan, Germany, and Italy Holocaust: Mass killing by the Nazi Party Appeasement: Policy putting peace before fighting | WORLD WAR II
If the U.S. had not dropped the bomb on Japan the war would've been extended even more and more lives would have been lossed. But the U.S. would've at least found another way to end the war. U.S. forces would have invented a virus to end the war. But then Japan might go, and aid Germany, and help extend the holocaust. More millions of lives would've been lossed. If the virus didn't work all of the allies would've stormed into Germany capturing Hitler alive, and causing Japan to flee back to Japan. Then the allies would have went to Japan, and defeating their troops and making them to surrender. Making the allies victorious. | What If?
The cold war was a scary time for many American civilians. It was when there were hostile conditions between the Soviet and American leaders where battle was often talked about but never actually occured. It was fought over communism when the Soviet Union wanted more land and the US wanted to defend that land. It eventually ended when communism fell. | Hostile: Unfriendly or violent towards one another Communism: type of government
If the Soviet Union had landed on the moon first and not the United States then the U.S. would had found another planet to land on. They could have landed on Mars, and found that there was water. And that meant there was life on mars. This would had made the U.S. the first country to find life on another planet. Making the space race come to an end. This would have meant that the U.S. had won the space race once again. This might have made the cold war become more violent. Possibly making U.S. and Soviet Union go into war. This could make could have made WWIII. | What If?
