Four of the world's ancient civilizations emerged along large rivers in arid climates, around 6000-4000 B.C. These rivers began the growth of those civilizations. The four civilizations were ancient China, Mesopotamia, Indus Valley Civilization, and ancient Egypt. These civilizations began after the Neolithic Revolution. The Neolithic Revolution was a dramatic change that changed the way humans lived. It was the development of agriculture and the domestication of animals. Each civilization used this type of farming to more develop their civilization.
What if people had not learned how to farm? Things would really different if people had not learned farming. I think a lot of the things that have happened in history could have. We could still be hunting and gathering. Our families could be living like that too. Developments like technology and arts could have not developed too. We would be doing the same thing we were doing back then before the Neolithic Revolution.
In ancient times, Greece was not a united country. It was a combo of separate lands where Greek- speaking people lived. One of the Greek- speaking societies was the Minoans who lived on Crete. The other society was the Indo-Europeans who settles on mainland Greece. Soon a large wave of Indo-Europeans migrated to another part of Greece, they were the Myceneaens. Classical Greece and Rome is also remembered for Athens and Sparta who had many differences and similarities in their lifestyle. This classical era is also known for its arts and sculptors, and advancement of extesive trade networks.
What if Rome didn't fall? Rome was very powerful, and they become so powerful that they began to corrupt. Resentment from the poor and tensions between social classes started the republic's collapse. Adding on to that Julius Caesar's death help cause the fall to. I think if Rome didn't fall we would still be speaking Latin and could have never learned English. But also I think Rome never really fell because it turned into something even better, we use the ideas that they used and know we have developed them even more.
Post Classical Africa/Asia was a time where Islam was becoming a main religion, where it created Islamic Law, which was a significant force in African History. Muslim traders introduced Islam to many parts of Africa, where the growth of commerence help it spread. The Tang and Song dynasties were also a major part of this period. The Tang dynasty began after the end of the Sui Dynasty and ruled for nearly 300 years. After the Tang's dynasty reign ended the Song became the new dynasty. The ruled for nearly 300 years as well. The period of those dynasties was one of the reasons China eventually developed into a more advanced and over-populated country that it is today.
What if the Mongols had not opened the Silk Road to safe travels? The Silk Road was a system of ancient caravan routes across central Asia, along with traders who carried silk and other trade goods. The Silk road helped expand trade and began to help counties make great profit. So if the Mongols didn't open the Silk Road for safe travels, many countries and people would had not gotten goods and Silk. The countries involved in the Silk Road also maybe undeveloped and couldn't even exist in present-day.
Post Classical Europe can also be known as the Middle Ages or Medieval Europe. This era really began after the fall of Rome. During this time period there was a lot of important people like Charlemagne, who was a Frankish ruler and helped spread Christianity throughout Europe. This time period also was the host of many invansions by the Vikings in western Europe. Social classes were also very defined during the Middle Ages. The main political and economical system in Europe during the Middle ages was Fuedalism. Two other major events during this time period was the Crusades, which helped spread Christianity, and the Bubonic Plague, which killed about one-third of Europe's Population.
What if the Black Plague did not attack Western Europe? If the Black Plague didn't attack Western Europe more trading would have happened. There could have been many more inventions that were developed and eventually advances in those inventions that we could be using today. The economy would have been much better as well, but since so many European's died, the economy, trading, and technology did develop until after the plague. But if the Black Plague didn't happen Europe probably would have never jumped to the Renaissance, which brought Europe out of those dark ages.
As the Middle Ages ended, Europe gradually entered the Renaissance. The word Renaissance, which means "rebirth". This is a time were Europe re-introduced the knowledge of Greece and Rome, and the advance in art and science that came with it. The shift into centralized governments also began during the Renaissance which help re-invent trade. The movement of the Protestant Reformation also began in this period. The movement was the development of a new form of Christianity called Protestantism, were European's tried to reform the Roman Catholic Church. The invention of the printing press and other inventions also started to develop during this time period.
What if Gutenberg hadn't invented the printing press? If Gutenberg had not invented the printing press I think writing and reading would have never developed. Present-day technology like the computer would have never been invented as well. Phones might have still been developed, but the texting-feature wouldn't have. Current-day books and documents like the Declarartion of Independence and the U.S. Constitution would have never been written or signed.
The Enlightenment is the era of great thinkers that radically changed ideas on political philosphy. "Enlightened" means to be educated and that is what all the thinkers wanted citizens to be. So that is why Locke, Hobbes, Rousseau, Montesquieu, and others came up with their ideas, which eventually led to the Scientific and Industrial Revolution. The Enlightenment also began the wave of independence movements which jolted the American Revolution. Then after the French and Latin American revolutions also happened. These revolutions are major events story and the Enlightenment helped start them. The American Revolution is also known for helping America gain their independence, and the Declaration of Independence was signed.
What if the Enlightenment ideas were not embraced by the colonists? If the Enlightenment ideas were not embraced by the colonists then the revolutions that accured would have never happened. The ideas and inventions from the scientific and industrial revolutions would have never developed. And if those weren't developed then we could still be living like it was before the Enlightenment.
World War 1 was the first major war that happened in the world. The war was fought between the Allies and Central Powers. There were many cause that helped develop the war. The causes were militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism, which eventually caused the assanation of Archduke Ferdinand. During the war the U.S. entered the war to help the Allies, eventually leading to their victory. Once the war was over the Treaty of Versailles was signed by all the nations involved in the war except Germany. During the Treaty, President Wilson created the 14 point plan which created the league of nations and made Germany take the blame of the war. This 14 point plan was also made to try to prevent another world war.
What if Germany wasn't solely blamed for WW1? If Germany wasn't solely blamed for WW1, I think WW2 would have been prevented. Germany was so angry that they were blamed, they wanted revenge. Their strive for revenge led to the start of WW2 and the Holocaust. So if Germany wasn't blamed for WW1, WW2 would have never happened and we could be living a whole new life in American, and we could possibly have an alliance or small agreement with Germany today.
World War 2 was the second major war in the world. The war was fought between the Allied and Axis Powers. During the war, the Nazi's were taking over Germany. The Nazis led the Holocaust that killed millions of Jews. But after six years the war was over and the Allied Powers were victorious, which was another U.S. victory. The war was offically over when Germany and Japan surrendered. The reason Japan surrendered was because of the Atomic Bombs the U.S. dropped on them. This was one of the biggest wars that ever happened and millions of people died. It ended up good though, because American was victorious and the Nazi's were terminated.
What if the U.S. had not dropped the Atomic Bombs on Japan? If the U.S. had not dropped the A-Bombs on Japan the war wouldn't have ended at that point in time. Even though Germany was out of the war, Japan would have still been in it. More people could have died too, because the war could have became more brutal. It could have become more brutal because Japan could have attacked the U.S. badly or the U.S. could have dropped something worse on Japan. Another thing is that The Axis could have ended up winning the war instead of the Allied Powers. But the bombs would have not really mattered because American and the Allied Powers would have still been victorious.
The U.S. and the Soviet Union emerged from WW2 as the most powerful nations in the world. They had completely different economic and political views. They both also tried to increase its global influence and they really undermined each other. The events that happened during the Cold War were the Berlin Wall, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The U.S. and the Soviet Union were also involved in the Space Race, which led to American landing on the Moon. The Cold War ended when the Soviet Union was overthrown by their communist government. This led to the Soviet Union splitting up into 15independent countries. The Cold War lasted for a very long time and was another major part in history.
What if the Soviet Union would landed on the moon before the U.S.? If the Soviet Union would have landed on the moon before the U.S., the Soviet Union could have ended up winning the Cold War. The U.S. could have never found the advances to land on the moon. The U.S. could have also never started the NASA Program. Also, several missions that have happened since the landing on the moon could have never happened, so that means we wouldn't know whats going on in space.
