What is your favorite Christmas Song? | We'll have to say Jingle Bells, as he doesn't know any Christmas songs yet!! - Isaac | Definitely, White Christmas, sung by Bing Crosby - Paul
What is your favorite Christmas Memory? | - Sally
My fondest Christmas memory was while living on Pleasant St., waking up early Christmas morning, using the excuse of going downstairs to use the bathroom, squinting to see what was around the Christmas tree, and seeing the glint of moonlight off the wheel rims of new bikes for Jim and I. - Bill | It's hard to pick a favorite memory because there are so many good ones! After sitting at my computer sifting through thoughts of sledding, ice skating, hats, and forced carols, suddenly this very random, incredibly vivid image popped into my head. I don't know what year this was but I do remember Christmas was at Uncle Jim and Aunt Debbie's place that year. Elise, Ethan and I were just hanging out in the front room for a minute. Elise was playing the piano, Ethan was playing with a new toy, and I was apparently content to pull at the frayed edge of a ribbon. It was a quiet moment, and I just remember an overwhelming feeling of love and joy and peace. - Mary
Christmas Eve was always magical! We'd pile in the car for grandma & grandpa Manchester's house full of energy and excitement. Mom or dad would forget something in the house and have to go back in. I was probably twenty before I figured that one out! We'd have dinner and gifts and the adults would linger way too long over coffee and Tom & Jerry's. we would head home, in the dark, starry night and drive through downtown looking at the Peterson's store windows. The holiday themed mechanical figurines would bring us alive and make our anticipation grow. Santa always came to our house first, on his travels. We knew there would be surprises waiting for us upon our arrival home. We would pull into the garage and enter through the basement door. Dad would always go upstairs ahead of us and check to see if Santa had found us. I remember the electricity in the air, as we waited for the "high sigh" that he had indeed come. The magic of that innocence and excitement still brings a smile to my heart. `- Debbie
What is your favorite Christmas Ornament? | I have so many ornaments on my tree that hold special memories of people, places and times in our lives. There's the fabric soldier we bought in the Tower of London gift shop when we took Colin and Nicola back to the country of their birth in 1998. Or the starfish painted like Santa in his swim trunks that we bought when Bill flew the four of us to Catalina Island, CA in June 2002. The cotton angels that we ALL have on our trees are a favorite reminder of our time in Alabama. Beautiful Swarovski crystal, souvenirs from special places, handmade ornaments made by every member of the extended family and by Colin and Nicola at school..each is very dear to me and I spend time each Christmas with my eggnog or coffee, listening to favorite Christmas carols, looking at the ornaments and reflecting on and thanking God for the many blessings of people, places and events in our lives. If I have to choose just one, I would say my very favorite is a rectangular metal ornament hung by a ribbon with a photo of Colin and Nicola printed on it. It is special to me for so many reasons. Besides being a lovely ornament, it was given to me by my dear children in 2005. Colin and Nicola worked together to choose the photo and get it ordered. It was such a wonderful surprise and, of course, I cried when I opened it. The photo is from June 1990 and was taken in the mountains of Utah while my mom and brother were visiting us, so when I see that photo, so many sweet memories flood my mind. - Robin
My favorite Christmas ornament to hang on the tree is any of my kitty ones, I cannot pick out a single one. I love cats!- Elise! | The rainbow ornament is my favorite. This is the last ornament that Grandma Daniels gave to Walker. It is a giant ball shaped ornament- with stripes of red, blue, yellow and green. - Ann
What is your favorite holiday food? | Toes, maybe?
Kuchen- the way my mom makes it. Nobody outside our family even knows what it is! - Sarah | Kuchen Topping 1 C milk 1/4 C oleo 1/2 C sugar dash of salt 2 T flour 1t vanilla Heat butter &milk. Mix flour, sugar & salt together. When milk & butter are hot, add flour & mixture, stirring constantly until thickened. Add vanilla. Remove from stove and add 1/4C sugar stirring until all is dissolved. Cool. Us heavy sauce pan as it burns. Double or triple this when making many kuchens.
Chex Mix (the homemade kind) and "Santa Cookies" - these are the same as peanut butter blossoms. We have always called them Santa Cookies - because they are the only kind of cookies we make at Christmas. - Walker | I like the blueberry pastry thingy we have on Christmas morning. (ButterBraid) - Ethan
I guess it would have to be Raisin Creme Pie. For the main course I enjoy ham with honey sauce or goose. - Gary E.
What is your favorite Christmas Movie? | Home Alone - Aside from the classic moments in the movie (such as Kevin yelling "AAAHHH" after applying the aftershave) I would have to say that it is my favorite because of the sentimental moments attached to it. Nothing says Christmas like watching that movie with family and friends. - Nicola
Elf - There are so many funny lines in this movie... *Have you seen these toilets, they're GINORMOUS! *We elves try to stick to the four main food groups; candy, candy canes, candy corns & syrup. *Buddy the Elf! What's your favorite color? - Madeline | Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - Alex (it's also my moms)
What is your favorite childhood toy from Santa? | It is a draw between my Johnny Express remote control trailer truck that I could stand on while I operated it from a control box connected by a cord! Amazing. But then there was the new blue three speed bike that replaced my red single gear bike with bad brakes that locked one time while I was racing causing me to fall off at high speed which caused me to slide along the pavement having scabs on the whole left back side of my body!Painful. The bike helped relieve the pain. plus we had no money for the bike which made it such a big present and all the more memorable. I'd go with the bike. - Jim
My favorite toy was the Long Ranger action set! Go figure! - Robb
The best gift I got from Santa was a Power Ranger's Megazord. I remember wanting one for a long time, but my parents never got it. I was so shocked when I found one under the tree Christmas morning. Man, those things were all the rage back then. - Colin
My favorite gift from Santa was a red Schwinn Spitfire bicycle! - Gary M.
What is your favorite Christmas Tradition? | I love giving gifts- finding something unique to that person, something that will bring them pleasure and then wrapping it up in all the pretty paper and ribbon. It seems like a meaningful way to celebrate the greatest gifts of all! - Suzy
My favorite tradition is probably eating lasagna on Christmas Eve so that we can spend the time visiting with family instead of cooking! - Jenn
Our family always bundles up, grabs some twine and a hand saw and goes to cut down our tree. It takes too long and it's always cold. Everyone finds a tree and then we vote. There's always a level of arguing and it's always annoying. I like this tradition. - Drew
And sometimes, making Christmas Memories is just too exhausting!!!
