S: Connor's First Trip to Ithaca, NY.

FC: Connor's First Trip to Ithaca, NY. September 2010

Three airplanes, one car ride and many hours later Connor finally arrived in Ithaca, New York where his cousin Jessica lives with her mom and dad and her new baby sister, Samantha. | Once upon a time a little boy called Connor boarded an airplane for his first trip to the United States of America. | 28 August 2010 23.55 KL0598 CPT to AMS 29 August 2010 12.55 KL6035 AMS to DTW 29 August 2010 17.35 KL9288 DTW to SYR

In Ithaca it was the end of summer and the weather was nice and warm. | Connor's Grandpa was also visiting Ithaca and was ready to show Connor all the sights.

First he took him to Taughannock Falls (the highest falls in New York state). | However, Connor did not see the falls... he fell asleep in Jessica's comfy pram.

Dinner at the Boatyard Grill | To celebrate Uncle Dirk and Aunty Bronwyn's wedding anniversary everyone went out to eat. Jessica and Connor had fun playing together while they waited for their food to arrive

Next Grandpa took Connor to see the beautiful waterfalls in the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park.

Hike at Treman with the Lillys | Connor held the map and helped everyone find their way through a giant corn maze.

It was Labor Day (a public holiday in the USA) and the Lilly family came to Ithaca from Washington DC. Even though the weather was a little cold everyone still enjoyed the picnic at Myer's Point where we played Boule and explored the playground.

Goodbye Grandpa He went back to Washington, DC with the Lilly family. | We took a group photo of the Swart, Lilly and Houston families with Grandpa. Back: David, Dirk, Larry, Dad Middle: Grandpa, Anne Front: Jessica, Bronwyn, Jordan, Alison, Kathryn (holding Samantha), Mom, Connor,

Connor loved walking around the Cornell Plantations...

... watching the birds at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology... | ... and exploring the exhibits at the Science Center.

Ithaca is home to many gorges with lots of waterfalls. This is a hike that Connor took around Buttermilk Falls

In Cape Vincent, you can look across to Canada and see the power generating windmills.

This area is called The Thousand Islands, because there are l793 small islands in this region of the St Lawrence River. Even some of the tiny ones have houses on them! Connor's family took a boat trip from Alexandria Bay to see Boldt Castle on Heart Island.

2 | 1 | 3 | Next Connor traveled to the Adirondaks. The map above shows the places in New York State that he visited: 1: Ithaca (Finger Lakes) 2: Cape Vincent (Thousand Islands) 3: Rainbow Lake, Whiteface mountain and Lake Placid (Adirondak Park).

We rented a cottage on Rainbow Lake, where Connor and Jessica went canoeing with their Dads.

Unfortunately it was rainy and cloudy and we could not see the view from the top of Whiteface mountain, but it was quite an adventure to walk in the tunnel inside the mountain and take the elevator to the summit.

This food at a pub in Lake Placid was so yummy and just what was needed after the cold at the top of the mountain. | There are lots of deer in New York State and these ones didn't seem to mind sharing the field with Connor.

Dear Connor, We loved having you come and visit us and we hope that this was just the first of many adventures you will share with us here in the USA. Lots of love from Jess and Sam (and Aunty Bronwyn and Uncle Dirk).
