Photos of the Cook family from 2010 Chapel Hill, NC
Christmas 2009 in Chapel Hill Top left to bottom right: Matt, Jean, Uncle Collin Kokesh (Williamsburg, VA and anywhere the Army sends him) Aunt Kat and Uncle Derry Cannon (Austin, TX) Andrew, Connor, Grandma Carol (Gainesville, GA) cousins Devin and Liana Cannon. Not shown because he's the photographer... Joe (Gainesville, GA)
Liana and Devin help Connor hold Andrew down.
Connor in the youth theatre production of the original play "The Investigations of Martin P. Buford." His characters was much like Watson is to Sherlock Holmes. March
Andrew as "General Bronson Charles" in the middle school production of "Date with a Vampire." (Very silly and fun) April
Spring Tennis - Andrew played on the middle school team; Connor played just for fun.
Spring photos: a "stay-cation" for Spring Break this year.
Andrew's first formal school dance came at the end of 8th grade. Here's Dad helping him with his first sports jacket. May
 Before dancing... | ...after dancing!
Last day of 5th grade - We're all done with elementary school! The graduation ceremony was deviously designed to make parents cry: roses presented to mothers and a rendition of "Forever Young." June
Last day of 8th grade - Andrew's all done with middle school! He paved the way for Connor. June
Summer Camp at Kanata ("Mom, you can go now.") June | Ready to come home!
Summer Day camp activities at Carolina Friends School. June/July
Andrew's Birthday - he's now 14! He declined candles in his breakfast waffles, so Connor had them instead. (New watch from Uncle Collin.) July
Vacation ! In the pool left to right: Cooper Chasse on Christina Young, Connor on Andrew, Julie Salemi on Chad Young, Caitlin Salemi on Ryan Chasse. All sixteen happy vacationers on the steps.
2 weeks at the beach with friends... ahhh! July/Aug.
Andrew spent 5 of his vacation days at summer band camp. Here's how he looked after re-joining us at the beach.
2010 was our 14th year vacationing at Emerald Isle., NC. The Chasses, Salemis and Cooks have made it every year; the Youngs from Alaska come as often as they can make the trip. We already have reservations for 2011...
Connor turned 11 in September. He chose lemon bars for his cake. Sept.
Fall 2010 brought so many firsts! Andrew started high school and joined marching band (percussion, especially marimba). | Above: the Carrboro H.S. band. Andrew is front row, 5th from the left. Left: the entire percussion section.
Plenty of firsts for Connor too! He started middle school and orchestra (viola). He was moderately traumatized by the need to wear a tuxedo shirt, tie, and cummerbund.
Andrew is also in Latin Club this year, and a club tradition at Halloween is to depict the underworld. Here Andrew is Hades with Persephone. Left are snapshots from his performance in a one-act play about unemployment.
Halloween. Andrew is dressed as a juvenile delinquent. Connor is a Ninja Assassin and would not let Mom walk with him - not even 10 yards behind! We had a record 423 trick-or-treaters leaving us nothing but a pile of empty candy bags.
Thanksgiving brought a visit from Mir (Grandma Maryann). After Tom Turkey was given his due, we played around at a fun park that included laser tag (and Icees)
December brought a visit from Grandma Carol to see the boys' music performances including the band marching in the town parade. We also saw an unusual amount of snow for Chapel Hill so early in the year.
Christmas 2010 with most of the Cook clan gathered in Montclair, New Jersey. Top left is Andrew, cousin Fletcher, Connor, and cousin Maureen. Andrew's shirt ("meh") is teenage slang meaning "I don't care very much, but I'm not being rude."
We witnessed the great blizzard of 2010 in New Jersey. Our car is under the ramp of snow on the left. It took a while, but together we all managed to shovel enough to clear the driveway and paths in front of Gabby's house. It was at least 18 inches with drifts even higher!
