FC: Little D's First Year! 2011-2012
Once upon a time, there lived a young couple named Daniel & Katy. They lived in Nashville, TN with their dog CoCo. The led a normal life: hung out with friends, enjoyed running and entertaining. But as much fun as they had, they had no idea how much fun was awaiting them. On Father's Day, 2010, Daniel and Katy found out they would have a little baby!
 6 weeks along :) | 9 weeks | 12 weeks | 16 weeks
 20 weeks- We found out you were a BOY! | 24 weeks | 28 weeks | 32 weeks | 34 weeks | 36 weeks
Once Katy and Daniel knew that they were having a little boy, it came down to two names: Daniel and Diego. In the end, Katy really wanted Daniel because she wanted her little boy to be just like his daddy! When it came to decorating his room, Katy loved the sweetness of Snoopy, so they had their friend, Ryan Firm, paint Snoopy on Baby Daniel's walls. Once others found out about the Snoopy theme, people started making him other accessories to go in his room- like paintings done by April Franklin and a quilt and curtains by Janice Stephenson.

One Month Old! | The first month home went by quickly. Baby Daniel liked to eat small amounts of food often and at first he only liked to sleep if his mommy held him, but he quickly got used to the new world and was soon eating well and sleeping for 4 hours at a time! Mommy and Daddy also soon got used to changing diapers several times a day!
From the time Baby Daniel's parents found out he would be a boy, they also knew he would be born with a cleft lip and cleft palate. They prayed that God would heal his lip and palate enough for him to be able to eat normally. When Baby Daniel was born, the doctors said the cleft was not as bad as they had thought and that he would be able to eat normally! The lip doctor, Dr. DeLozier, scheduled his lip surgery for June. Everyone was very excited and nervous for the big day. His momma was very sad to see Baby D's sweet smile change, but she knew if was for the best. After surgery, Mamma got to hold him and feed him. The first bottle he ate, he ate very quickly because of how much better he could suck- he ended up eating 3 times the amount he had ever eaten at one time in that one feeding! The whole family slept at the hospital for one night. Baby Daniel hated the IV and the hospital so we were all happy when we got to go home!
D's lip healed pretty quickly and we were soon off embarking on new adventures! We got to see fireworks at the Hatch's house and then got to go out on Old Hickory Lake for the Fourth of July! Little D liked to look at the fireworks, but the noise was a bit scary! | July also meant it was time for our trip to CA! Little D was very excited to meet many of our friends and family for the first time! Little D didn't mind the flight out, but got really frustrated with people when they would not pay attention to him on the plane- he would look at them, smile and make noise to make sure they would look at him. D got to go to Vacaville, Roseville, Folsom, Santa Cruz, Burbank, Anaheim, Malibu and Bakersfield while in CA!
Baby Daniel had a great summer, but like all good things, it had to come to an end. In August his mamma had to go back to work and the monotony of everyday-life set in. Although life can be boring- Baby Daniel made life fun-filled for his parents!
As the leaves started to change and the weather got a little cooler, D got to go to Stony River for his dad's birthday, discover the joy of big-boy baths and took his first road trip to Indianapolis!
In October, Grandma Johnson got to come and visit- she took D shopping, brought him her toothbrush holder to play with and bought him his first (green) pumpkin!
D's mom LOVES Halloween, so D was subjected to lots of pre-halloween activities. Family pictures, a trip to pick a pumpkin, a trip to Kentucky to get a GIANT pumpkin (and pet fun animals), a superhero costume party and getting to go trick-or-treating at Dylan's house could only be topped by multiple viewings of It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown :) | Family pictures by Daniel Brown
Another month passed and it was November- Baby Daniel was crawling like crazy, pulling up by himself and even standing all by himself! He got to show off these new talents for his Uncle Dave, Aunt Michelle & cousins Charlie & Ben. The three boys had a great time during Thanksgiving! | First swing ride!
Christmas was quickly upon Little D. He had never had a Christmas before, so the experience was very interesting. Since D was way more mobile, he enjoyed getting to explore his house. Christmas trees, dog bowls and dog kennels were among his favorite places to be! D also enjoyed getting to play with JINGLE BELLS! | Little D thought Santa was interesting- a little scary at first, but then he decided he wasn't so bad. The thing D though was the best about Christmas was how he got to stay at home and play with his mommy and daddy - the parties didn't hurt either!
D had a lot of fun at the 2nd annual Christmas Movie Marathon and Ryan and Kevin's Tacky Christmas sweater party. Although he was far from his family in CA, D's TN family took good care of him- Christmas Eve he got to meet Santa at the Smithing's house and Christmas Day, he got to have Christmas dinner with the Hatchs.
January came too quickly and everyone was sad to get back to work and school. D continued to explore his house and work on his walking skills. He even got to explore snow a little! Two things he enjoyed immensely were the dishwasher and BFF panda! The biggest change in January, though, was his switch to homemade baby food. Chef Daddy D labored hard and long to perfect D-worthy recipes. D's favorite was two cubes porridge, 1 cube apple and 1 cube avocado!
January passed in a flash and soon it was February which meant it was time for Valentine's Day and D's FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!!! We enjoyed lots of family time after school/work. D's favorite thing to do as a family was wrestle. He would crawl over to his parents and nudge them with his head and lay on top of them. He also loved to be tickled and would laugh hysterically. D also started responding to "no"s although the stereo often proved to be too tempting. He mastered climbing up the stairs but was too nervous to try going down- thank goodness!
His big day finally came and D was getting excited for his first birthday! D decided he wanted to save his partying for the weekend, so he Skyped with his Grandma and Grandpa Johnson and got a McDonalds icecream cone with the Fishers and Grandma and Grandpa Sanderson. Saturday, February 18th, started off with D's first haircut at Dudes and Divas in Cool Springs. He didn't mind getting his hair cut at all- he kind of liked having the lady play with his hair. He got his hair cut in a faux-hawk, just like his daddy! After that, D went by Costco to get his dinocake for his Sunday party and then home to grab a nap before his park party. At 2pm D met up with Janice Stephenson, Sherry Hatch, Allyson Hennecke, The Fishers, The Lohmans and Grandma and Grandpa at the Dragon Park for some sweet potato Maple Cream Cheese cupcakes. The next day, we went to worship and then went to Pie in the Sky for a pizza party with a lot of D's church friends, the Lohmans and the Hilfikers. He even got to sit next for a cute girl names Eva! It was the best birthday ever- a perfect ending to the best YEAR ever!
Thank you, God, for Little D and for protecting his life through all he experienced in his first year. May he have many more years dedicated to Your service and walk with You always.
