The gift of being and enjoying the moment, observing the world with the curiosity of a child, wondering about the mysteries of life. Do we really see? We see the world as we are. Often we just see what we want to see and sometimes we don't see what is just in front of our doorsteps. A little step out of our normal comfort zone can open new worlds, new horizons to see, to feel, to experience. Openly loving life and the wonders that naturally come with it, may give us peace of mind. A journey we often don't know exactly where it will lead to, but we can learn to trust, trust our own inner voice, our innate wisdom that lies within our hearts. 7: The Morning Ritual In todays world it can be hard to switch off. Literally. Our gadgets enable us to keep in touch every moment of every day if we wish, and its easy to become addicted to checking for the latest updates. But lets not forget these devices were created as tools to enhance our lives, not to enslave us. Modern technology can become a barrier to our ability to be present in the moment. By constantly recording through the camera lens, the post, the status, we separate ourselves from truly experiencing the now. How easy do you find it to leave your mobile behind for a few hours? How often to you allow yourself to simply be? For our physical, spiritual and emotional well-being it is essential to find time to refresh and nourish ourselves. To take a break from the need to be busy. Establish a morning ritual in which you give yourself space and permission to be still, away from the static of modern life. Create an environment that inspires a sense of peace within you, even if its just a corner with a scented candle where you can sit quietly. Meditate, do yoga, go for brisk walk or run, write in your journal, or simply watch your thoughts arise. Give yourself 20 minutes every morning to get in touch with your inner wisdom, to peacefully prepare for the day about to unfold. It will change your life.

9: Holistic Healing Yoga The ancient Indian tradition of Yoga can bring health and harmony to our lives. The word yoga means 'join together', thus its purpose is to unite mind, body and spirit through the combination of breathe and movement. There are eight limbs in yoga practice, the most well-known being Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing) and Meditation. Prana refers to the life-force within. The most popular styles of yoga practice include: Hatha: slow and gentle, focusing on breathing. Good for beginners Bikram: practiced in a very hot room with lots of humidity. Has 26 poses Iyenger: focuses on alignment and strength, uses a variety of props Ashtanga: physically demanding with constant movement, known as 'power yoga'. Whichever discipline you choose, daily practice of yoga instills a sense of well-being. Reiki Our body is not only composed of physical elements such as muscles, bones and organs, it also has a subtle energy system through which 'life force’ flows. Maintaining health requires that this energy can flow freely through the body, but stress and tension can create blockages and imbalance. The word Reiki refers to the universal energy (Rei = universal, ki = energy). Our energy system within is comprised of chakras (seven energy centers) and meridians (channels through which life force runs, like a river). Reiki uses the hands to transmit the healing power of life force to restore balance and gently open blocks in our energy system.

11: Sunshine We hear much about the damage that sun can cause us. Linked with skin cancer it is important to be safe and that sun exposure is taken in moderation. But sun also has many health benefits: it can lower cholesterol stored under the skin by converting it to Vitamin D as so keep bones strong. It improves our immune system by stimulating production of red and white blood cells and increasing supply of oxygen in our blood. It activates endorphins, the body’s natural anti-depressants, particularly serotonin and melatonin, making us happier and helping us sleep better! 12: Aromatherapy Ancient civilizations such as the Chinese, Romans and Egyptians understood the healing power of plants, although the word ‘aromatherapy’ – literally meaning ‘fragrance treatment’ - was not used until 20th Century; credited to French chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé who became interested in the medicinal properties of essential oils after lavender helped heal his burned arm quickly and without scarring. The distillation of volatile plant parts into essential oils is now a popular alternative medicine. There is a vast array of essential oils with different properties ranging from relaxation and stress relief to skin repair and boosting the immune system. The two most common methods of absorption are smell and skin. When a scent is inhaled it travels through the olfactory nerves to the limbic system which controls mood, memories and our ability to learn. Aromas trigger a variety of chemical reactions within the body, including the release of endorphins to make us feel good. Essential oil molecules can be small enough to enter the bloodstream through inhalation and through the skin (the largest organ of the human body). Massage increases skin absorption, and applying oils to the soles of feet and palms of hands speeds absorption into the bloodstream. Essential oils should always be respected. They are very potent and should never be applied neat to the skin. Always dilute in a carrier oil, preferably a natural, vegetable oil in which they are soluble.

Lemon & Thyme Body Scrub (for smoothing and toning skin) Ingredients: 1 cup sea salt 1/2 cup pure almond oil 2 teaspoons fresh thyme (leaves stripped from stems) Zest of 1 lemon Directions: Pour the salt into a clean, sterilized container with tight-fitting lid. Ginger tones the digestive system, stimulates the production of gastric juices, relieves cramps in the intestine, calms the stomach, stimulates the immune system and is the best remedy for travel sickness. Enjoy DUNIYE SPAS’ homemade recipe: 1 tea bag or loose tea (black or green tea) 2 pieces lemongrass stalk 3 slices of ginger root (peeled) optional honey or sugar as preferred Bring water, ginger and lemongrass to boil and let soak for a few minutes, add tea bag; sweeten with sugar or honey as preferred before you serve. You also can add some lemon.

18: You Are What You Eat The greatest wealth is health. Our bodies are wondrous, complex machines and food is the fuel that keeps us working. Everything we eat, we digest and break down, to metabolise in our bodies for good or bad. A diet rich in fruit, vegetables and fibre and low in saturated fat and processed sugars will support you. Use colour as a guide: foods with bright colours such as broccoli, berries, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, carrots, oranges and kiwi are rich in anti-oxidants, which protect our cells against free radicals. Reduce your intake of white, processed food - simple carbohydrates, such as white bread, white rice, white pasta and instead eat wholewheat or grain versions which contain fibre to help cleanse your digestive system. Moderation and balance are key to a healthy diet, so watch your portion size, keep your intake of processed and sugary foods to a minimum and drink lots of water! Making small changes can have a big impact on your health.
