BC: All of these contributions to mathematics and logic made Euclid known as the "Father Of Geometry" as well as a world-renown mathematician
FC: How Do We Know the Truth?
In Raphael's School of Athens, Euclid is teaching about geometry. Constantly, Euclid did this throughout his life always seeking the truth and proving it.
Biography | Little is known about Euclid. His exact birth and death dates are questioned because there are no historical references to when he lived. Not many writers wrote about mathematicians and his life is not documented very well. The only truth we know about Euclid is what he wrote about in The Elements, Data, Optics, and other books.
Many of the most basic concepts of geometry were derived from Euclid. He questioned the truth and created the first axioms and postulates. Mathematically, these statements are true without being proofed.
Euclid emphasized on knowledge to prove the truth. He used logic to prove his axioms and postulates in proofs using givens.
Axioms and postulates are statements that you could also use to create constructions. One of the most basic constructions was the radius of a circle.
Euclid has his own branch of mathematics called Euclidean Mathematics. It deals with perspective, spherical geometry, and number theory.
The Elements | Another one of Euclid's accomplishments is writing the Elements. This book was the first textbook of geometry and people have been using up until the early 20th century.
The Elements has many geometric definitions that mathematicians still use today. Not only that, but it also contains how to prove the shapes measures.
