Footprints by Margaret Fishback Powers One night I dreamed a dream. I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to my Lord. When the last scene of my life shot before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand and to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life. This always bothered me and I questioned t he Lord about my dilemma. "Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way. But I'm aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints. I just don't understand why, when I needed You most, You leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you." 4

This poem is very applicable to my life. From a very young age, I have always wondered how God could ever love me and how He could ever stay by my side through all the bad things that I did. This poem illustrates this character of God extremely well because He is always there by my side and will seem even more present when I am going through a tough time in my life and I need Him even more than ever. I am even more reassured by this poem about the personality and assurance that God provides for me. I am eternally grateful that God is always walking by side, especially when I stumble. 5

God Exists Quietly by Jewel Kilcher God exists quietly. When I sit still and contemplate the breeze that moves upon me I can hear him. For hours I would lay flat upon the meadows stare at the endless field of blue sky and revel in the divine placement of all things. I would walk alone in the woods and let my mind wander freely, stumble across theories on the origins of myself and all things. In nature I knew all things had their place. None supreme, none significant and so great peace would come to me as I fit neatly in the folds between dawn and twilight. 6

Living in sync with the rhythm of the earth, eating what we grew, warming ourselves by the coal fire, creating myself in the vast silence that existed between the wild mountains of Alaska and our front porch I grew to love the Nature of God. I knew Him best not in churches, but alone with the sun shining on me through the trees It birthed a space in me that would continue to crave the sacred and demand sanctity as my life took flight and lit out to travel the world. It has grounded me and held me steady in the strong winds that have carried me so far from where I have been. Prayer is the greatest swiftest ship my heart could sail upon. 7

This poem reminds me of God's presence. God is always there whether I know it or not. I might not be thinking about Him, but no matter what he is right by my side. I enjoy God's presence and am relaxed to know that He is always with me. Kilcher says "I knew Him best not in churches, but alone with the sun shining on me through the trees." I feel the same way most of the time about my relationship with the Lord. I love church, but the most intimate time I have with God comes when I am alone and in the most random places. I am relieved to know that he follows me everywhere I go. 8

Before You by Antwone Fisher Before You, I felt no reason, minute after minute... hour after hour... Before You, I seemed no purpose day after day... night after night... I knew not the joy a true love could bring week after week...and month after month...Now year after year, you bring happiness a bliss I never knew...before you 9

"Before You" reminds me of a life without Christ. A life without God is like an empty hole. The days seem to drag on without any purpose, but then once God is found, life has meaning and an eternal happiness replaces the everlasting doom and despair. This poem reminds me of how my life was before I knew God. I was a kid, but I still had no definite purpose in my life, something to live for. Now, after I have found Christ, I find myself continually challenged to live my life exemplifying a Christ-like example. 10

Tide by Leia Hayhoe When the world ends, I will be sitting on a beach Watching the tide come in With my mother, Sharing an ice cream sundae With hot fudge. I will be skipping Smooth Flat Rocks Across the ocean's current, Enjoying life For the last time. Mother and I will remember The good times And Look at old photo albums. 11

I will Cry for the Time that will Not be and dream of it When the world ends. | 12

One of my greatest fears is what will happen when I die, so the end of the world is scary to me. Fear is not a good thing to have because it means that I don't trust God and that I haven't put all my hopes and trusts in Him. I know that if I die I am going to Heaven and I am not worried about that, I'm worried about what it will be like. I know that in the Bible it says to not be afraid because God is always with you, and I do not need to be afraid of something as trivial, to God at least, as the end of the world because He has everything under control. 13

Alone by Christine Rich Alone is a darkness that laughs in your face. When you wake up it will all be erased. You think you're safe Ha, please the treatment gets done by everybody even me. I have been scared and sometimes shed a few tears Lying down in my cold bed thinking it's not real. My eyes almost closed, brain half asleep, mine in Wonderland it must be the hear. Now I want to go to bed and Now I am beneath Alone's wing. 14

This poem reminds me of the time in my life before I knew Christ. I was alone in the world, left to figure things out for myself. I never knew of the friend I could have in Christ Jesus. I was lost in a world with no purpose in my life until I found Jesus. Today I feel like this sometimes happens, but then I remember that God is always with me and I have nothing to fear because I have a mighty and powerful God beside me through every task I go up against. 15

I Loved You So Much by Alice Walker I loved you so much That when You left It took A lot To keep me Alive. Prayer helped. And giving Myself over To emptiness. Years later I sit On this Beach Not far From an old Hawaiian Kahuna | 16 | Who teaches All and sundry How to clean Their bowels. Don't Hold on To the Old Stuff, flush it out She says Leis to her Ears Perched Like a diva On her bright yellow Porch. I gaze Thankfully at the sea Time's most faithful Clock Amazed

This poem reminds me of God's unfailing love. He loves no matter what and He will always love me forever and ever. God is awesome and has loved me from the day I was born and will love me when no one else does. God's love goes the distance and will never fail to meet ends meet. God has a love like no other. The love that God expends on every living being is unfathomable to me because it has to encompass the entire Earth and all those who reside in the Earth. 17 | That every trace Of that Old pain Your leaving Stuffed me With Is washed Clean.

Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune--without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chillest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me. 16

To me hope is more than just a wish or a want, but instead a complete faith in something. Hope is depending upon someone when no one else is around. God is my someone that I can depend upon. As I stated earlier, God is always there and will always be there for me. I can always put my faith in Him and know that he will not let me down. God is the only true hope because He is the only one who will never let me down and will be there to the very end, comforting and holding me all the way. 17

Eternal Love by Gary Soto What's the meaning of time? You said, "I'll be with you forever." We lasted two weeks, one afternoon, A half hour, a few minutes, A sweep of seconds on the last day Of the solstice. This sorrow You gave me remains I could paw at the calendar of hurt, And You'll be there Like radium, like uranium, Whatever element lasts forever But who cares about me? Some joker said, "Love is eternal As long as it lasts." I feel him. 18

This poem reminds me of the love I will always receive from God. No matter what I do, or how bad I mess up God will always love me. God's love will never terminate. He loves everyone and has since the day He thought of them. God's love is so awesome and powerful and it reassures me of the wonder that is waiting in Heaven because of love my God had for me. My God loved me so much that He sent His one and only son to Earth to die for everyone's sins so that everyone can go and live eternally in Heaven in all the glory of God. 19

You're Beautiful by Phil Wickham I see Your face in every sunrise The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes The world awakens in the light of the day I look up to the sky and say You're beautiful I see Your power in the moonlit night Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright We are amazed in the light of the stars It's all proclaiming who You are You're beautiful, You're beautiful I see You there hanging on a tree You bled and then You died and then You rose again for me Now You are sitting on Your heavenly throne Soon we will be coming home You're beautiful, You're beautiful 20

When we arrive at eternity's shore Where death is just a memory and tears are no more We'll enter in as the wedding bells ring Your bride will come together and we'll sing You're beautiful, You're beautiful... This is one of my favorite songs to sing. I love the continual praise towards the Lord. My favorite line is "where death is just a memory and tears are no more." I love this line because I used to be horrified at the fact of death immediately following the death of my great-uncle. I was terrified about my parents or grandparents dying and how sad I would be. Then, I heard this song and I realized that death is such a minor part of life because in Heaven everyone will live forever and there will be no more pain and suffering. This line reassures me every time I hear it about the promise God made. 21

Isaiah 40:28-31 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. 24

This passage tells of the Lord's great power. The Lord has an unshakable power that cannot be matched by anyone and is great in all ways. The Lord's power can overcome any obstacle and can not be overpowered by anything. I am glad to say that the Lord's power is on my side because I believe in the Lord and I know that His power can do anything for or against me. I love the Lord and am awestruck by His marvelous and wonderful power. 25

My Little Sister by Kyle Brown When I watch you sneaking food upstairs knowing that it's wrong watching for our parents or when I watch you with a grin on your face turn on the television even when Mom says not to I say when I watch you slink downstairs with a saddened look on your face expecting trouble like a burglar caught in the act I stand up through your hardships I stand up 26

My sister is a really good person, only sometimes she makes bad choices. We have all gone through a time in our lives when we were terrible children. I know I have deliberately disobeyed my parents more than once and I know how much trouble I have gotten in. I now watch my sister make the same mistakes that I once made and I see her punished the same way I was punished. This poem is similar to the way that God looks out for me. As I watch from the backseat, God lets me make my own choices, but is still there to give me advice along the way. He is there watching out for me all the time. 27

God Is Always With Me by Kyle Brown God is always with me As I walk down the sidewalk As I brush my teeth As I go to church God is always with me Whether I like it or not No matter what I've done Under all circumstances God is always with me As I shoot a deer As I jump in the pool As I bundle up in my parka God is always with me 28

The repeated line in the poem serves great importance in my life. It is one of the best things I can keep telling myself whenever I am going through a hard time or having a great day. God is omnipresent and exists in all parts of my life to be my guide and to hold my hand along every step of my life. I am thankful for God being with me through thick and thin and the awesome power His presence brings to me. God's presence is reassuring as well as inviting and provides a good backup in times of need. I am gracious for my God always being there to protect me and rejoice with me. 29
