FC: Hawaii Vacation
After spending Christmas in Oregon we left the cold snow and ice (one of the worst winters) for sunny Hawaii, with Tanda's parents, the Jones' and us. Unfortunately a thunder storm on Oahu delayed our flight to the big Island. We arrived late at night with no keys to our resort. After finally getting in we all slept - waking up in Paradise to start the fun! | On our way!
Resort Kona Hawaii | Grandma Karen Ash with her granddaughters Kira and Andrea | My sweet and silly nephew Carter | Our Resort was right across the street from a beach frequented by Sea turtles. | Andrea found boogie boards at the resort and couldn't wait to try them out!
The resort had a patio area you could reserve. Each family took turns cooking for the group and sometimes enjoyed the meal outside at the patio. We enjoyed rousing games of Phase 10 while the cousins played until collapsing.
 Hanging out at the Resort
 Out and About in Kona
Our resort was on Ali'i Drive, which runs along the ocean. Following the road one direction leads to Kona. Heading the other direction is a beautiful walk amid tropical flowers and a quaint neighborhood. Even the mailboxes are works of art. | Carl loves flowers and kept asking us to take his picture by the plants/flowers. | ALI'I | D R I V E | Andrea, Carl, & Evan
The kids loved the gecko's. This was their first time seeing a gecko. | My Sweet boy Carl
Kahaluu Beach | Directly across from our resort ~ we spent quite a bit of time here. | Father and Daughter Greg & Kira Jones | Andrea is so excited to finally be here ~ she'd been so excited for this trip | Lifeguard Tanda's going in
The boys had a "sand" fight | Carl and Kira both really liked playing in the sand.
Boogie Boarding | Watching for the perfect wave | Carter (far left), Evan, Andrea, Carl
Andrea and Evan | Carl | Carl did not go out on the boogie board very much, preferring to play in the sand. Andrea, on the other hand would spend hours out there. She'd get tossed around in a wave and head right back out. | Carl & Andrea
Pu'uhonua O Honaunau ~ City of Refuge | Carl and Carter- Cousins and Best Buds
Cousins | My Sister and I with our girls
Andrea called this her "palm shower"
Loving a quiet moment with my sweet nephew! | My precious and so beautiful Andrea | This gal was fishing and let the boys take a try | My handsome Pete
Exploring the Village of Refuge and nearby beach. | Hawaiian storyteller at Village of Refuge
This area is interesting in that you have the Volcanic rock that quickly turns to sandy beach. It allowed for a picnic and sandcastle building, some snorkeling, and then checking out the tide-pools in the volcanic areas.
Pete and Tanda You are my love!
Those moments with family and loved ones are one of life's greatest pleasures! | Misty & Greg Jones | My daughter and I
Sea Kayaks | The Jones family taking off | Pete, Carl, Ken (Grandpa Ash) & Andrea
While the others went kayaking, mom and I had fun watching Kira | Loved spending time with my darling niece!
DOLPHINS OFF KAHALUU BEACH | We saw these dolphins our second day in Kona. They were right off the beach across from our resort. They stayed in the same area for quite a while and you could occasionally see one jump. Some people grabbed their snorkeling gear to swim out to them. It was quite a treat- locals said it's very rare to see them there that close to shore.
Snorkeling | Greg getting ready to hit the beach | Pete and I had picked up some snorkel gear for Andrea & Carl while in Australia. They got it for Christmas right before this trip. Although Carl mainly tried his in the swimming pool Andrea had a blast trying snorkeling in the bay. The swimming noodles helped out a lot with that. Here I'm showing her the scuba sign for "Okay"
Wonders | One thing I (Tanda) love about snorkeling and scuba is the incredible beauty and variety of fish and coral. Note the pencil fish below. The eel to the left swam right by me, scared me as it was suddenly right there. The picture was snapped behind my back as I was quickly swimming away.
 More Snorkeling Shots
Pete and Tanda's CRAZY New Years Eve Scuba Dive! | On New Years Eve Pete and I went for our first night dive ever. The dive was to an area with lots of plankton- to see the Manta Ray's that feed on the plankton. The problem was a huge storm blew in. Even 30 feet under the water we were swaying 12 feet side to side. Once reaching the ocean floor we held onto large boulders to stay stationary and not get pounded into the rocky bottom or each other. Somehow Pete managed to snap a few pictures as the manta ray swam over our heads. | Cool Coral Shot | Manta Ray
TRIP TO THE VOLCANO | Misty and Greg took Evan and Andrea to see the Volcano. On the way there they stopped at the police station for a bathroom break. The officer there was so excited he gave Andrea and Evan a full tour of the station and jail.
 Tropical Splendor
 Sea Turtles
We could see turtles right off Kahaluu Beach across from our resort. They would swim right up to the beach and amid the people playing in the surf. At the Village of Refuge we saw them basking on the rocks. | Andrea watching the turtles in the surf | Getting a closer view
THE TOMCHAKS | Carl (5), Andrea (8), Tanda, Pete
THE JONESES | Greg, Kira (2), Misty, Carter (4), Evan (8)
FAMILY MOMENTS | Misty & I with our dad (Ken Ash) | With our mom (Karen Ash) | Getting Kira to stop long enough to get a picture of all the cousins together is a difficult task - she's a girl on the go
 Kona Sunset
 Our Final Day - O'ahu
While we fed the birds Kira tried to catch them. We were all shocked (bird included) when she succeeded. | I've heard of "Bluebirds" before- but have never seen anything like this | Feed The Birds ~ Pigeons on Waikiki Beach
 Diamond Head
These unique trees are so much fun. One tree takes up a entire block, sending down these roots that make great swings. Once they take root they make these maze like tunnels, as they go in every direction. | Banyan Tree
Running on the Beach | Waikiki Beach | We all had so much fun on Waikiki Beach and decided we'd like to spend more time on O'ahu next time we're in Hawaii. A great end to the trip.
Surfer Girl | Pete pointing out Diamond Head to Carl | Greg throwing the football for the kids
O'AHU AIRPORT - WAITING TO CATCH THE RED EYE HOME
