2: During this time, America was just recently freed from England and many changes were happening in this new America. The establishment of the National Bank caused much controversy and the ratification of the Constitution was being fought for.
3: British ships were attacking American fleets off the coast of our own country. The War of 1812 was about to begin!
4: James Madison was a key founder of the Republican party with Thomas Jefferson. He advocated the rechartering of the National Bank although he was opposed to Hamilton's position. | James Madison declared war on Britain and France during the War of 1812 after attempts to remain neutral failed. The nation was too young to fight a war and had many times of defeat.
5: During the war, The White house was burned down in D.C. This was an embarrassing blow for the administration. Dolley, Madison's wife, showed extreme bravery though during the fire by saving a portrait of George Washington. | The Treaty of Ghent was signed and brought on a huge sense of nationalism for America surprisingly.
6: James Madison's presidency lead America through the War of 1812 and began "The Era of Good Feelings". | As a person, he contributed to the foundation of our government more then most of the other founding fathers.
7: Because of James Madison, we have The Bill of Rights, detailed notes from the continental convention, religious freedoms, and we survived the War of 1812 as a new nation. James Madison was a BOSS.
