Thank you for best gift in life......you!

Dear Karla, I am so glad we were able to find each other after all of these years! When we were young you were my best friend – but, actually, it was deeper than that. | We were together constantly – every waking minute whenever we could. You were more like a part of me than just a friend beside me. I remember calling each other first thing in the morning as soon as our Moms would let us and we would run to the corner to meet each other. We would eventually have to go home for lunch, dinner, or chores but as soon as we were done, we would be on the phone again and running to the corner, only to be separated when it was bedtime (when we weren’t having a sleep-over). I got that same kind of excitement when I received your first email this year. I was so excited!

Do you remember all the picnics in Yellowstone? We had so much fun! Remember that time we played tag in the church and the priest caught us? I was so scared and I thought that we were going to get in huge trouble but we just had to say a couple prayers and we were done.

How about the times my brothers would tie the cupboards shut at our house while we were hiding in them and then we would have to wait for them to let us out. Of course, they always made great taffy and we got pretty good at sneaking through the house and stealing pieces as we went through the kitchen! I’m sure they never knew what we were doing! Ha ha!

Although I can’t remember her name, I remember the neighbor up the street that used to let us play dress-up and use her jewelry. We had so much fun there! I’m sure we looked gorgeous!

We had so many wonderful times together. It tore me apart when we had to move. I felt, literally, like I lost part of myself. I wish I had stayed in contact better over the years but back then it wasn’t as easy as it is now. I vow to not lose you again! I hope we get the chance to make some more memories. We have a lot of years to make up for! With all my love, Carol

I carry your heart with me.

Sakari loves Karla. Karla loves Sakari.

Karla, You have always, always, been there for me no matter what. You let me live with you if I ever needed to, always supporting me in school and in sports. I remember staying at your house when I had to get up super early for basketball practice. | You let me live with you guys a couple different times when I got out of school cause it helped me out. Karla you have always been my second MOM to me and even to this day that has not changed. | You are always there for me if I need anything and supporting me always, unconditionally! If if I ever had to call you for anything, you would be there and that's one of the greatest feelings, knowing that I have someone like you in my life. Love, Brock

We love you very much! I will always agree with you that the living room arrangement should not be centered around the TV. I want to thank you for one of my favorite gifts which was a simple chakra leaflet you gave me many years ago. I still use it to this day to find peace and put life into perspective. Crystal~

We love you and are blessed to have you in our lives. How old are you? 20! 30! 40....... It does not matter how old you are we love you just the way you are. I remember when we all lived in your house for the summer after Lindsay's house caught on fire. As kids we did not care if we had to sleep on the floor, and it never seemed to bother any of the adults either. It is strange when we are young we love family, then as we grow up we want our space, but we always end up desiring the thing (family) in which we tried so hard to get away from. | I find that the same in my walk with God, I knew who he was from church but wanted nothing to do with Him, and God gave me my space but as I grew older I realize the very thing I was trying to get away from is the very thing I was looking for. We are looking forward to getting to know you, and growing closer. Happy Birthday.! Love from all, Aaron, Audrey, Teagan, Hayden Isaac, Kadence, Payton

Karla - Thank you so much for our beautiful daughter. You are my best friend, only I know how much you have helped me, it is so unbelievable. I enjoy talking to you everyday. It makes my day when you and I laugh together. I love your laugh. You are a very special person to me. You do so much for me I could never repay what you have done for me and thats a fact. You have saved me. You are a special lady & love you with all of my heart. Dave

Love bears all things, | Love believes all things, | Love hopes all things, | Love Endures all things,

The first memory I have about my youngest sister, is Mother changing her diaper on the kitchen table. Now 50 years later, you are a constant memory of our Mother. You have her build and mannerisms and sometimes its like shes standing right here! When you were about 4, Mom told me I had to take you with me to play. I wanted to hang out with my best friend Linda, and sure didn't need a tag along sister. I thought if we made you believe we were just going to sit on the curb all day, you would go back in the house. When I told you we were just going to sit, all day, you smiled up at me and said, "Thats o.k.!" There was no discouraging you. I didn't know then, that 46 years later, I would be smiling back at you, just happy to hangout and do nothing. Every time I see the scar on your ankle, I flash back to giving you a ride home from G street park on my bike. I thought I told you to keep your feet away from the spokes but the ride was uphill and I just wasn't careful. You cried so hard. As your older sister I was suppose to protect you. All these years later, so often it has been you that assumed the role of big sister in my life!

Into adulthood now the memories are many! Going to the Alabama concert was one of the best. We had good seats but when you saw people heading to the stage, you looked at me and said,"Lets do it!" I was so worried we'd get in trouble. You have always had a boldness about you, so I followed you. We stood at the stage, looking up at Alabama and I will never forget the look on your face when we turned to each other, in disbelief that we were so close to them! Thank You for teaching me that its O.K. to just go for it! We start most of our days with just a phone call of Good Morning. It has never mattered the time of day when it was an emergency, or a broken heart! Like the time you called around 2a.m. and Colin panicked and ran for the phone. Hit a log beam, breaking his nose, He still answered the phone. Yelling at me, that you are on the line crying. He never understood why that call couldn't have waited for morning. You and I always knew why. Some calls just can't wait. Right!

 My sister, my friend.

We thought Jessie was too early. Kelly or Leisa were going to go into delivery with you. Nothing was happening so we thought there was time to run for some dinner. As they were getting in the car a nurse came and said,"It's time are you coming?" I looked out the window and saw them drive away. I felt bad,but was so grateful to be there in that moment when the Love of your Life came into this world!!! I would like you to know Karla, on this wonderful day of 50 years young, that I am so grateful that you are in my life. You are always there for me. You have a work ethic that is second to none. You take pride in everything you do. You always strive for personal growth, through reading, nutrition, exercise to name a few. I have learned from you.

You say and do the cutest things!!!! You are a constant in my life, I don't know what I would do without you. My best memories of you are all the ones that reflect the dedicated Mother that you are to Jessie! Our Mother gave it up for us everyday of her life! You learned well Sister. Look back with pride and a sense of accomplishment! You are never ever going to look the age the calender says you are, nor will you act it!!!! Wahoo.

I love you with all of my heart and soul Your big sister lk

When you think of Karla or picture her, what comes into your mind? Madelynn..."I like how you dress" Morgan..."I think you are pretty" Chance..."I love how nice and happy you are" Avery..."Well, shes funny and nice and I think that's...yea" Isabella..."Um, probably...um...I think she has a good laugh" Kris..."I just want to say Happy Birthday Karla"! Kirk..."You are really special and We all love and care about you" Anthony..."You care about Me"

Karla, I think of all the talks we would have ( when you would come to clean) talks about emotional issues, money, and politics – we spent a lot of time talking about 9-11, how supporting we were of each other, whether it was the collapsing of a relationship or what to do about financial troubles. Later this segued way to our friendship and we would get together for dinner or an afternoon chat. When my relationship with Clay broke up in March of 2005, you were moving to MN and I was so sad because I was losing you too, and I remember thinking - loss- it comes in droves. And then you came back. Thankfully. I love the way you say “love you” on the phone. Manda

I carry your heart with me, I carry it in my heart, I am never without it Anywhere I go you go. And whatever is done by only me is your doing, My darling I fear no fate, For you are my fate, my sweet I want no world, for beautiful you are my world, my true And it's you are whatever a moon has always meant And whatever a sun will always sing, is you Here is the deepest secret nobody knows Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud And the sky of the sky of a tree called life, Which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart I carry your heart I carry it in my heart XOXO, Jessie

Karla, After Lindsay's back surgery (when she was still married to Jeff) you, me and Lindsay were having a discussion about how Jeff did not come to the hospital for Lindsay's surgery! None of us were happy with him, especially you Karla. But when you said, only in a way you could say, "We'll just put him back on a bus to INDIANANNA!" (Instead of Indiana) Lindsay and I just lost it. It was pretty darn funny. More recently, you shared with us while crying because you were laughing so hard that you prepaid for gas, and then got in the car and drove off without putting gas in!!! I almost peed my pants! I just love the stories that you tell! Most of all, I love that you send me a card from time to time for no reason at all! You are so thoughtful Karla. I love you, Leisa Jo

Aunt Karla, You have always been someone I could talk to - you are such a loving, caring, thoughtful person. We Love You Ross & Megan

Karla, I was ten years old at the time, walking with you & you were holding my fingers, we would walk all through the living room. Then one night, while we were doing our routine, you decided too let go, and took your very first steps. That moment has stayed frozen in my brain, like it was yesterday, ever since. You are my baby sister you know. Karla you are & have always been "THE LITTLE BAG". Love, Colin

Because of you, I know how to love something with all of my heart. You have shown me strength and courage beyond my greatest imagination. Thank you for having faith in all that I do.

Dear Aunt Karla, Well, another big Birthday for you and you have not aged one bit..I just wanted to share a few memories i have of you..First off how bout us "Taurus" man we are A LOT alike huh?

I remember when we would go to anyone of your homes and when you weren't looking I would check out every cupboard and see how you had things arranged, although my cupboards have never EVER looked as nice as yours do...maybe that's why today I have a little OCD in all my rearranging I constantly do. | I recall at family functions or softball games Brock and I would pick grass or leaves & put them in your hair and take off running & laughing! Karla I'm so glad you are in our lives. You are wonderful,I'm thankful I can turn to you with any crisis in my living room or just need some "Karla touch". I love you. Happy 20th Birthday!!!!!

Dear Karla, Happy 50th Birthday! We are very blessed to have you as an aunt. "Until the ending of our days, we will be part of one another's lives. However far apart, however different, we are essential to each other." We Love You. Kyle & Sharon

To Karla on her big 50. First off, it is not a bad thing. Take life by the horns and run with it. I have known you most of my life, and we have had a good deal of fun and laughs. You are a wonderful woman with a great energy, and I am honored to be a close friend. You don't let things get you down, and your smile is always there. You have always been quick to give me a bad time, but always willing to lend a listening ear. Your friendship has meant a great deal to me over the years, and I look forward to being your friend in the future. Let's all make sure we stay happy, healthy, and fun as time goes. Thank you for being a wonderful person in my life! Happy Birthday Karla! Duane

To the littlest sister, As my only little sister I felt compelled to inflict on you the torture any big sister is expected to bestow on her sibling. The older the sibling the more she can spread out her torments on the younger ones but alas you were my only one. By the way, what is the statute of limitation on torture? I hope 50 years is long enough to consider my self safe. I know the stages of life start out for sisters as, "Awww isn't she cute." Slowly it turns to jealousy (because the baby is always cutest) Then it turns to irritation and then sometimes contempt. It is about that time when you start to devise plans to get back at that rotten little kid who stole your thunder. Hence the smother games!!!! Convincing you "No really I just want to wrestle for fun!" I would get your arms pinned down on the bed and then hold you nose and mouth until you quit squirming. The color blue has never suited you since. I blame myself for any brain cells that were damaged during that time.

I must have been quite a good liar because you always believed me. Maybe that explains why you thought you would have to learn German if you bought a German Sheppard dog. Remember that day in Yellowstone on the board walk when you saw that dog? Seriously though, you must have had a trust in me that I would never really hurt you or you wouldn't have let me do it time and again. Does that mean an apology wasn't really necessary! Unless you were just a great actress and let me do it to stroke my ego. How long can you hold your breath anyway? On a positive note I hope you remember the day a boy kicked you in the throat at G-Street store and I chased him for blocks threatening his life if he ever came back. It was just understood that only sisters could pick on each other, not outsiders. (Kinda like the Madding Mafia) That stands true today and always. Although there are times when all of us as family get get distanced for some reason or another there is a bond that will never be broken.

Here is to another 50 years when our hair is blue and our memories fade and we rely on our children to remind us of our stories. Let's make a pact to become quite eccentric and drive them nuts the way they did us when they were little? Ya Wanna? Just don't wrestle with any of them! Love everyday, Kelly

To my Aunt Karla, For all the times you held me while I slept, rocked me when I cried, consoled me when I was sad and listened to me when I poured my heart out. Thank You from the bottom of my heart! Looking at these pictures reminds me that you were there during some of the best times of my life. I have great admiration for you and I hope I can make you proud of me. Love, Francey

A mother provides her daughter With insight into the important things in life In order to make her life as happy & fulfilling as possible A mother teaches her daughter to be good, always helpful to other people, to be fair, always treat others equally, to have a positive attitude at all times, always make things right when wrong, to know herself well, to know what her talents are, to set goals for herself & not to be afraid but confident A mother teaches her daughter to have many interests to pursue, to laugh & have fun everyday, to appreciate the beauty of nature, to enter into friendship with good people, to honor their friendship & always be a true friend, to appreciate the importance of family, to respect & love our elder members, to use intelligence at all times, to listen to her emotions and adhere to her values. | A mother tries to teach her daughter not to be afraid to stick to her beliefs & to not follow the majority when the majority is wrong, to vigorously follow her chosen path, to enter into a relationship worthy of herself, to love this person unconditionally with her body & mind, to share all that she has learned in life with this person. If I have provided you with an insight in most of these things then I have succeeded as a mother in what I hoped to accomplish in raising you If any of these slipped by while we were all so busy I trust you know them anyway One thing I am sure of, I have loved you every second of your life I have supported you at all times & as a mother, as a person & as a friend I will always continue to cherish and love everything about you my beautiful daughter. Thank you for all that you have taught me mom, you exceeded!

May today, there be peace Within.... May you trust your higher powers, That you are exactly where you are meant to be May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith May you use those gifts that you have received & pass on the love that has been given to you May you be content knowing you are a child of God Let this presence settle into your bones & allow your soul the freedom to Sing, dance praise & love.

Aunt Karla, I love you so much and always look forward to the time that we get to share together. We've spent so many wonderful times together, like when I used to go with you to take Sarah down to the river and watch her pull huge rocks out of the water, or just go on a drive to get a soda from Mark's In and Out or a Chai Tea.

One of my most favorite things about you is your laugh! I always love it, whether its just been you and I or the whole family together laughing so hard we had tears running down our faces. I love you very much and thank you for being YOU!!! Love, Teri Jo | Growing up I always loved it when I wasn't feeling well, how you would play with my hair or tickle my back. Your cool hands always made me feel better, especially when I had a fever, you and Aunt Gena both did. I will always remember you being at my State Volleyball Tournament my senior year with my mom and Aaron, and how often you tell me how pretty I am.

You have always been so supportive of me & the boys. You have given me money so that my kids could have some things at Christmas & you always try & help when you can. You are a big part of my life. I thank God that you are my Aunt. You are very special, beautiful and such a wonderful person. Thank you for all that you do for me & the kids. | I love you Aunt Karla. Love, Damien

Karla, One of my biggest regrets in life is not getting to spend more time with you. Life has taken us down separate paths, but I always enjoyed the times we were able to get together. Seems like it was usually over food--either pizza or picnics. I hope our next 50 years will involve more of those good times. Love you, Gene

Karla, You have been a core part of our West Creek Ranch family from the beginning. Just about 14 years ago, the most positive, honest, caring, energetic, radiant, beautiful gal interviewed with us for a part time job at WCR...fast forward all these years and Karla is still with us! We are so blessed!!! You are even more beautiful than the day we first met. I often ask how you keep getting younger... you say it's peace & happiness inside that radiate out! Karla, you make everyone feel good, just ask anyone in our family!!! Happy Birthday,Karla! We love you!!!! Carl & Elizabeth Webb

All of the dreams we have shared have made a lasting impression. Together we continue to make our dreams come true. Thank you for all of the sacrifices you have made. Go Vikings!

 Gena Marie

My Soul carries on, I will always watch over you little sister.

You're not here by chance, but by God's choosing. His hand formed you and made you the person you are. He compares you to know one else, you are one of a kind. You lack nothing that his grace cannot give you. He has allowed you to be here at this time in history to fulfill his special purpose for this generation. God's wisdom is perfect. He created you for many special reasons, but the one that means so much to me is that he created you to be my special friend, mother & angel that touches everything in my life. I love you Ma.

Karla, I remember living back on Hawaiian Ave in California. We had a basketball hoop attached to the garage. I used to play all the time, People would come and go, and I would be out there by myself shooting hoops for hours at a time. And then you would show up, and play horse with me. We would play so many games, the only thing that stopped us was lack of daylight. It was always you that would come and play to be with me. I looked forward every day to those times, it was always the highlight. I have always felt a special bond to you Karla, even from when we were little. You mean the world to me, whenever I am home I always gravitate (aside from my brother) to you and Jessie the most. I love you more than you know . Azure

Aunt Karla, Your have always modeled the way for us as a family because of your kind heart, your love for life, your joyful laugh and passion towards family. You bring to us a ear when we need to be listen too, a voice when we need guidance and calmness when life gets out of hand. You are an inspiration to all of us and we are lucky to have you in our lives. The Engle's will always have you in our hearts and want to wish you a happy birthday. ...And between you and I, whenever I get pissed and start cleaning the hell out of my house....I think of you!!!! Chris

To Karla. We have known you for around 14 years and during that time you have become a dear friend. You truly are a sweetheart. Your compassion and caring for others has not gone unnoticed. We know you to be completely honest and forth right - and that is to be admired. From me personally, I enjoy our lunches together and our sharing. You are a beautiful woman. Our love. Connie and Kirk Michels

Karla, When I think of you my heart actually similes! You have always been a good calmer for me as I run at a high stress level. As I get older and reminisce, I find there are just a few people I trust my deepest feelings with. You are the one that I have always felt comfortable sharing with. Karla you are a beautiful caring person, I am glad you are in my life! Love you, Annette

Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe.

Karla, I think I fell in love with you the first time I saw you. I still remember when "Those Catholic Girls" showed up at school! I can't even imagine how strange that would be, going to the same school and the same people and then you get thrown into the 'Wild Bunch'...ha! It seems that from that point on, you and I have shared our lives.

Sometimes years would span between us, but even when I would come to town to visit, you would be there visiting too. We were meant to be friends and I cherish all our memories and look forward to what God has in store for us next! Recently, you told me that what we had was special and that you couldn't say some things to others that you could say to me....I want you to know that I feel the same way. When we go to Chico and soak, I feel so comfortable and you always understand exactly what I'm trying to say. I feel relaxed and can really be myself. You always tell me how beautiful I am, when it seems like that is just when I needed to hear it and I want to thank you. Thank you for being my friend....Thank you for being as beautiful as you always are....Thank you for always letting God show his love through you to me. You are my angel!! Of all the things I shared with friends, our soaks at Chico have been the best, Thank you. Happy Birthday, my dear friend. I hope every moment in your life is as special as you are. And always know that I carry you in my heart each and every day and YOU are what makes ME a better person!! I love you.............Pam

Dearest Karla, Happy 50th Birthday. On the day you were born God truly started the greatest chain of love on earth. They say your children are a reflection of you and your heart. You have not only brought God joy through who you are, but through the gift you brought to this world, your sweet daughter. I hope you know this world is a better place because you are in it. In the years I have known you and Jess; I know you have done so much to care for others and to love others unconditionally. Whenever there is a concern or an issue Jessie is facing, the first thing I say is, "what does your mom say". Your love has guided the path for her and so many in this life time, and I hope the next 50 years you will feel the love of others surround you as you have surrounded them. I thank God for the life he gave you and for giving me someone in this world that reflects his spirit and heart. I hope you feel the same love on this day that you have poured into others all around you throughout your life. Happy Birthday. With Love, Shanelle and family 1 Corinthians 13:13 Three things will last forever--faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love.

Ma - As a grown woman I look back at my life from childhood and every memory I have is simply remarkable. You have given me such a beautiful life which I believe is the meaning of life. You are a woman of strength, courage, determination and takes pride in all that you do. | They always say that you turn out just as your parents. And if that is true, I look forward to each and everyday. I have had people ask me if I could be any person in the world who would I be and my answer is you. I admire your positive attitude and energy and constant faith in all life's choices. | I look up to you. I only hope to continue to learn from you and grow closer over the years. I admire you as a mother as friend. You are my soul mate. I thank God for the greatest blessing; your never ending love and support. I love you my sweet, sweet Ma. Jessie
